Lia Walti will often go unnoticed in the Arsenal midfield because she does the ugly work and keeps it very simple but she was superb.

She made 19 tackles, interceptions and ball recoveries.

She also attempted 86 passes - 31 more than any of her Arsenal team-mates.

The Swiss international completed 83% of them too.

This is how the WSL table looks after Arsenal's win at Villa Park.

They join Chelsea at the top of the league.

Chelsea host Reading at 18:45 GMT though and could open up a three-point lead for Christmas.

Either way, it looks like we're going to have another cracking WSL title race on our hands.

For the first time in their history Arsenal have won eight consecutive WSL away games.

They join Chelsea on 24 points at the top of the league.

She makes a brilliant block to deny Laura Blindkilde and then does a little pirouette to get herself out of trouble too.

It was a simple tap in. That was really disappointing from a defensive perspective for Aston Villa.

But that is the luxury that Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall has. He is able to introduce these game-changing players, something Carla Ward hasn't got.

Isobel Goodwin replaces Alisha Lehmann for Villa, while Mana Iwabuchi comes on for Caitlin Ford for Arsenal.

Despite the scoreline the home fans are chanting "Villa" now.

Because of the winter break they won't see another game until 14 January.

Leah Williamson strolls forward with the ball, in her usual composed fashion, and Arsenal eventually free Frida Maanum down the right because of the players that Williamson has drawn to the ball.

Maanum's cross finds that Katie McCabe at the back post, but she skews her effort over.

There are more goals out there for Arsenal though too, you would think.

Stina Blackstenius hasn't had her best evening, as her latest effort clears the bar.

If Villa are going to get anything from this game it feels like Alisha Lehmann is going to play in a big role in it.

She has been really dangerous in the second half, and she has another effort tipped away by Manuela Zinsberger.

Double change for Arsenal.

Noelle Maritz and Vivianne Miedema are replaced Laura Wienroither and Jordan Nobbs.

How good is Leah Williamson?

Her passing is superb and then she whips in a really dangerous ball into the box.

Hannah Hampton comes off her line, but is beaten to it by Stina Blackstenius, but she doesn't quite enough on it.

It is going towards the goal, and the Villa defence let it bounce TWICE in the six-yard box before hammering it clear.

As I was typing that Carla Ward has turned to her bench.

Emily Gielnik, who has one goal this season in the WSL, replaces Olivia McLoughlin.

Can Villa boss Carla Ward do anything here?

She's only got three outfield players on the bench and two of them are youngsters.
