  5. 'Everton showing great stability under Lampard'published at 15:22 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Tottenham v Everton (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte on Saturday's opponents Everton: "Everton is a really good team with a really good manager. Frank Lampard is showing to be a really good manager. He had a really good experience with Chelsea and now he's working well at Everton. They're showing great stability, especially defensively.

On his players' recovery after Wednesday's Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt: "We played only two days ago and we lost a lot of mental energy because the Champions League is a fantastic competition to play but you lose a lot of energy in this competition.

"But I think we are ready to play a good game."

  6. 'Not good to take stupid risks on Kulusevski'published at 15:16 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Tottenham v Everton (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte gives an injury update ahead of Saturday's match at home to Everton: "We are the same players of the last game. Deki [Dejan Kulusevski] is still not available. The rest of the players are OK.

"I think we need to have a bit of patience with [Kulusevski]. Don't take stupid risks. We have to play a lot of games from now until November. At this moment he's not 100% sure to be really fit and in perfect condition. It's important to respect the opinion of the doctors on the player.

"In this moment, honestly, it's a bit difficult to answer yes or no [if he will be fit to face Manchester United]. It depends on the new MRI he did today and about the work the doctors say about his situation. Also, the feeling of the player.

"I was a player and in this situation it's important to respect the feeling of the player and that he feels ok 100%. Otherwise, it's not good to take stupid risks."

  8. Silva wants to eliminate defensive deficienciespublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Fulham v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva has been talking to the press ahead of Saturday's Premier League game at home to fellow promoted side Bournemouth:

Silva said talismanic forward Aleksandar Mitrovic trained on Friday and would be assessed before the game but added other players have been scoring goals recently so the Cottagers are not as reliant on the Serbian striker as some think.

On a poor defensive record - 18 goals conceded in nine games - he added: "If I see other teams scoring a good goal against us, I will say all credit to them.

"Unfortunately for us some of the goals we have conceded this season, that hasn't been what has happened.

"The game against Newcastle, even with 10 men, is a good example - apart from the Almiron goal, the others we should have done much better with.

"It's a marathon, we know we will not win every single match at this level - it's us up to us to analyse when we get good results, to keep working with the players, to improve and to avoid things we shouldn't do."

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has signed a new long-term contract at the Premier League club.

Brazil midfielder Luiz, 24, has been at the club since 2019 following a £15m transfer from Manchester City.

He has made 120 appearance for the Villans, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists, while he has nine caps for his country.

But his contract had less than a year to run and Arsenal made two offers for Luiz in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners were hopeful of doing a deal before the transfer deadline, but saw a second bid of £23m turned down.

  11. 'Realisation has kicked in'published at 15:00 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Wolves v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves caretaker manager Steve Davis ahead of Saturday's match at home to Nottingham Forest: "First week as caretaker manager was a bit surreal. This week realisation has kicked in a bit more. Still lots of pride to be taking the club, but what comes with pride is results.

"As hard as you work in the week, the outcome is the most important and that’s what happens on a Saturday.

"I will feel more pride if I get some results. I've stood on the side in games at Molineux but not games of this magnitude. I have experience of being on the sidelines as a manager playing against Wolves, which is an advantage. It won't be a shock, it will be something I enjoy. I need to keep a cool head and make the right decisions on the day."

  12. Foxes 'better than what table says' - Vieirapublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Leicester City v Crystal Palace (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has been speaking ahead of Saturday lunchtime's Premier League trip to bottom side Leicester:

"They are a quality team, quality players, a quality manager so we are going there and in our mind we are playing against a better team than what the league table says.

"Every manager goes through a difficult period during his career and during the season. I don't have any doubt about how good he [Brendan Rodgers] is as a manager and a person. And I don't have any doubt that things will get better for him and Leicester."

On Palace winger Eberechi Eze, whose displays have seen him tipped for a shock England World Cup call-up:

"His performances will dictate whether his name should be around the conversation or not. He's been doing really well for us, he's scoring goals, there's still more to come from him but as a football club we've given him to get to his best because he's had injuries that have stopped his progress and now he's playing game after game and he has to perform at a higher level to allow those kind of conversations.

"He's a good dribbler, he understands the game, but he still needs to progress because what I expect from him is to be more decisive in the last third. He has the ability to score more goals, to make more assists and this is one of the elements of the game he needs to progress but I'm pleased with what he's giving the team."

  13. 'It's going to come for Bamford' - Marschpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Leeds v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Leeds United

Patrick Bamford and Jesse Marsch.Image source, Getty Images

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch has been speaking about striker Patrick Bamford's goal drought ahead of Sunday's game against Premier League leaders Arsenal at Elland Road:

"Every striker that I've had that's gone through a tough time - or even a good time - they get criticised a lot more for the chances they miss than praised for the ones they take.

"I always look at strikers as, are they fitting in to the game the way we want them to, and are they at least creating chances for themselves or finding themselves in front of the goal - and even if they are missing chances, if they are dangerous in the match, it's only a matter of time before those moments are going to start to add up.

"And that's how I feel with Patrick. Yeah, he hasn't scored yet this season but it's about getting him fit, getting him healthy, getting him training every day - in training he's scoring goals, in under-21s matches he's scoring goals, so it's going to come."

Marsch also confirmed centre-half Pascal Struijk will start against the Gunners despite Junior Firpo nearing full fitness.

"Right now Pascal is playing at such a high level that we will start with him at the weekend," he added.

"We need to get Junior (Firpo) fit and healthy - he trained all week this week and looked good. He's still a real important piece for us as things go forward - we have a three-game week coming up so I will anticipate that he will be ready to go and we will definitely need minutes from him."

  14. 'Players don''t grow a second head'published at 14:48 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Aston Villa v Chelsea (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has been speaking to the media ahead of Sunday's Premier League game at Aston Villa:

On the task of managing players with perhaps bigger egos than at his previous clubs: "I’ve found it really good. The players are open, they are honest, they are responsible. They are ambitious, determined and want to do well.

"So far, so good from my perspective. As far as I am aware they are still human beings. There is a media perspective that when they get to a certain level they grow a second head but the reality is not the case. It’s not straightforward this job whatever the level and so far we have managed it ok."

On N'Golo Kante's ongoing hamstring problems: "Historically things have happened which is a concern. We need to get to the bottom of that. It’s a setback in the last stage of his rehab which is worrying but all we can do is get the right diagnosis, get the right consultation and then get him back to full fitness and enjoying his football.

"He is due to see a consultant at the weekend. It’s a setback, it’s not good news but he is seeing someone at the weekend."

  15. 'Park frustration and get behind Villa'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Aston Villa v Chelsea (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Final thoughts from Steven Gerrard on the challenge of facing Chelsea and how the Aston Villa fans can play their part: "I wouldn’t argue or debate that they’re favourites. The are a world-class, talented team. They have recruited well. Their academy kids have developed and become top-class players.

"They have changed their manager of late and are in a honeymoon period. Everything points to them being favourites, but this is at Villa Park. I am frustrated we've not taken wins from our previous two game, so I want to take the game to Chelsea and be as aggressive as we can."

On the help supporters can give the team: "They were a 12th man on the day. They are a huge help to coaching staff and players. When big hitters come to town - world-class, talented teams - we need every bit of support and help that we can get.

"I know there’s frustration, I accept it, but if people can park it for 90 minutes and get right behind the lads, that’ll be a big help."

  17. 'I'm not surprised about Potter's journey'published at 14:33 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Aston Villa v Chelsea (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

More from Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard on Chelsea manager Graham Potter: "I am not surprised where he is at. Sure, there was a queue as big as you want linked to this job, it’s a fantastic club. The club is full of ambition, with good players. I don’t know if Graham was linked with it, but I'm certainly not surprised on his journey.

"We played Brighton in a friendly when I was at Rangers, he’s a good guy, very humble, a student of the game.

"Having said that I'm sure he’d say he’s had to grow, learn and suffer a bit. I'm sure that’s put him in a much better place to handle the Chelsea job."

  18. 'An exciting opportunity to prove people wrong'published at 14:22 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Aston Villa v Chelsea (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard speaking ahead of Sunday's match at home to Chelsea in the Premier League: "It’s fine margins. If we’d executed big moments we would be in a much healthier position.

"We have gone four unbeaten - I'm not satisfied with that because in the last two games we should have executed better and should have taken maximum points - but we want to make that five.

"We want to go into this game [against Chelsea] with belief and confidence that one of these moments could be taken."

On supporters' reaction: "We respect and appreciate the fans, of course we do, we always have. After the last game, we don’t bury our head in our hands, we listen to it.

"I have got a job to do, to prepare the team and focus on what I can control. I prepare our game plan the best I can and try and prove people wrong.

"Obviously we are underdogs at the weekend but for me it’s a really exciting opportunity to go and prove people wrong."

On protecting players: "The players share the responsibilities and frustrations but I want to protect them. I’m proud to be their leader, if it’s me putting my head anywhere, or any criticism, keep bringing it my way. We want them to play with freedom, not worry about where we’re at or what's gone before.

"Players under me are allowed to make mistakes, that's not a problem as long as we move on quickly and focus on next match. Pressure is coming my way - that is fine, I accept it, I won't shy away from it."

  19. 'I can't demand time, I have got to deliver'published at 14:18 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Aston Villa v Chelsea (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

    Steven GerrardImage source, Getty Images

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard speaking ahead of Sunday's match at home to Chelsea in the Premier League: "I came here with big expectations for myself and a lot of belief. There should be expectations on me and this group. I’m only fine with that if it is realistic.

"We continue to try to be the best we can be and move up the league. Expectations and pressure are all part of the job. We have got owners and a board that are extremely ambitious, that’s the pressure I’ve got, and I love it.

"We’re competing in the most brutal and tough league out there. I can’t demand time or keep asking for it, I have got to deliver. The quicker I can do it, the better."

  20. Team news - Bailey, Archer & Cash availablepublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Aston Villa v Chelsea (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard gives an injury update ahead of Sunday's match at home to Chelsea: "Leon Bailey trained yesterday so he’ll be available for the squad. Need to have more conversations with the medical department about his game-time.

"Cameron Archer has still got a niggle in the background. At some point we will have to address this but he has trained so is available.

"Matty Cash didn’t train yesterday but that’s us managing him. He’s available. Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos are progressing well.

On Lucas Digne: "We are hoping we can have him back towards the end of the month, if he progresses in the safe way."
