  1. 'You can see the improvement in Jarrod'published at 11:45 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Southampton v West Ham (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    West Ham United

    Jarrod BowenImage source, Reuters

West Ham United manager David Moyes on Jarrod Bowen's scoring run, including a sixth in European competition to equal the club record: "He’s getting a real consistency. Maybe he started a little slower, but he’s back closer to his form now.

"He’s looking like he’s going to score and create chances too.

"He’s in better condition now than he was at the start too, it was difficult for the players who were involved in the internationals over the summer.

"You can see the improvement in him, technically he’s faster and quicker than he’s been and tactically too.

"If you think of the best wingers over the years, nearly all of them became centre-forwards and goalscorers and maybe you can see that in Jarrod too.

"If you look at his goalscoring record over the years it has been pretty good, and it’s been that way consistently for us too.”

Sulaimon Adelekan: The "curse" of Béla Guttmann on Benfica. On leaving Benfica, he allegedly cursed the club declaring, "Not in a hundred years from now will Benfica ever be European champions again".

The curse is still active after seven European finals.

  4. Your views: 'Nuno should be given another chance'published at 11:34 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

    Wolverhampton Wanderers

Plenty of you have had your say on the Wolves manager search and the perhaps surprising shift towards a potential return for former boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Here is a selection of our readers' responses:

John: I think Nuno should be given another chance now that we have different players and he does seem to inspire the team and the crowds.

Darron: Nuno's a great shout, but I'm not sure he and the Wolves chairman have buried the hatchet.

David: As a Wolves fan I was saddened to see Nuno go but, like most people, felt his style of play wouldn't get us further. He built a great spirit but his squad was too small and we never scored enough goals. Bringing him back would be brave but probably short term. Most are not his players. Perhaps consider a short-term contract and wait for Lopetequi?

Alan: Before considering Nuno again I would want to look him in the eyes and see that he has regained his old spark that he clearly lost in his last year at the club.

Dairve: I remember the 'punch-to-the-gut' feeling when I heard Nuno was leaving. If I was the Wolves hierarchy, I would be begging him to come back.

Lindsay: Wolves are in a difficult position but should not panic and make more errors. As much as I liked Nuno I do not agree in going back - big mistake. Wolves must wait for the right person, they just need to survive this season and start again whenever.

    West Ham United

Little over 12 hours after his side's Europa Conference League victory over Anderlecht, David Moyes is back in the firing line, speaking to the press ahead of Sunday's Premier League game at Southampton.

We will be hearing from Wolves' caretaker manager Steve Davis around 13:00 BST. No doubt he will be pressed on the search for a permanent manager at Molineux - although I imagine his focus will be firmly on Saturday's match at home to Nottingham Forest.

  7. Nuno in Wolves return?published at 11:18 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Wolves are talking with Nuno Espirito Santo about their former manager returning to Molineux.

Whilst it is being stressed Wolves are conducting an extensive recruitment process after Julen Lopetegui turned down the chance to succeed Bruno Lage earlier this week, the fact Nuno is one of the potential candidates is intriguing.

The Portuguese was effectively sacked in 2021 after a difficult season where performances dipped following successive seventh-placed finishes.

Nuno remains a popular figure amongst the Wolves support despite a brief and unsuccessful spell at Tottenham.

In July he was named coach of Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad on a two-year contract.

  8. 'There are no ceilings here'published at 11:12 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Man Utd v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Final thoughts from Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe on how far the club can progress: "I don’t like to put ceilings on individual players or a club either. The ambition behind this club is huge. I've always said we have got to try and deliver their huge ambitions, but there are no ceilings here. When you see the passion around the city, the thing that always blows me away is the young people here - their passion for Newcastle is running through generations, so that won't stop. I hope the global brand and passion will continue to grow.

"Potentially, the global support will definitely grow if the club can be successful. That is the challenge and where the club wants to be.

On Europe ambitions: "It's fine if people want to link us to those positions, but we have to remain level and calm internally. I know our form has been good consistently for a period of time, but form can change and I think my job is to keep everyone grounded and focused on the short term objectives. I am not looking for statement wins, I am just trying to win the next game. My focus is day to day and week to week."

  9. 'Biggest challenge in football'published at 11:07 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Liverpool v Manchester City (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking ahead of Sunday's game against Manchester City:

"When you play City, results left and right [before and after] are not really important because this game requires all your focus, all the things you know about football.

"I enjoy preparing for the game but it is the biggest challenge you can face in football.

"With City, if you can close them down here, they are there, close down that gap, you open up that gap, so always a challenge.

"But it's a home game, Anfield, us against Man City, they are at the moment the best team in the world but we will give it a try, knowing we can get help from a full Anfield and we will try to use that."

  11. 'A big week for us'published at 11:03 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Man Utd v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Eddie Howe on Newcastle's run of games - after Sunday's trip to Manchester United they play at home to Everton on Wednesday and at Tottenham a week on Sunday: "I think it’s a big week for us. The two away games are very tough they will give us a good marker of where we are I think.

"Getting points at this stage of the season is hugely important as well because the league is taking shape and we want to be in and around where we now.

"We are aware that the points difference between where are now and falling a long way down the league is very small."

  12. 'Bruno has the ability to be a Newcastle legend'published at 10:57 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Man Utd v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

More from Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe on Bruno Guimaraes: "We desperately want him to be happy here and see a long-term vision here, but time will tell on that. We have to build positively. As long as a player sees an ambition in the club, hopefully we can fulfil the needs of everyone here. We are in the early stages of that so we don’t want to disturb that.

"He has done unbelievably well, the thing that has pleasantly surprised me is the relationship between me and him, and the squad. He has fitted in so well. He has epitomised the team spirit and the drive we need to be successful and the fans have seen that and really taken to him.

"I am new here so I am aware of he Newcastle legends of the past and I want my players to aspire to be the next one and if that is part of his motivations then I am all for it. He has the ability to be one of those players, but he has a long way to get there.

"If given the choice, would we do the deal? I think the answer would be yes, without a moment’s hesitation. Only time will tell on all transfers about whether it’s a good deal or a bad deal, but at the moment it looks like a fantastic bit of business."

On the form of Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy: "[They] have done a great job for the team. Miggy is scoring goals at the moment and Murph has come in in the last two games and given very good performances. It was great to see him score last week so there is competition. We have really good options and we are going to need them because each game is a different challenge."

  13. More from Moyespublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

A quick turnaround for West Ham manager David Moyes.

Rather than preview Sunday's trip to Southampton at the end of last night's press conference, he is back at the Hammers' Rush Green training complex to speak to the media this morning.

I am guessing injuries and Jarrod Bowen's goalscoring form may be top of the agenda.

  14. 'We need to spread the goals more'published at 10:51 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Liverpool v Manchester City (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking ahead of Sunday's game against Manchester City:

"Bobby [Roberto Firmino] is in a really good moment and I'm really, really happy for him.

"Even though it is not the best moment we have ever had, it is helpful these boys still know where the goal is.

"We just need to spread the goals a bit more to different games, not focus on nine and seven then nil, but we know that. Positive things always help."

  15. 'You can already see Man Utd's philosophy emerging'published at 10:47 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Man Utd v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe on Sunday's opponents Manchester United: "They have got outstanding individual players and a great manager who will do a great job. They will develop their philosophy and style and I think you can already see that emerging.

"They have given some vey good displays and it’s promising for them."

On Manchester United's inconsistent start under Erik ten Hag: "I think whenever there is change it is difficult. It can either go really well at the start or you can find it difficult, but I think they have got top quality players and manager and things start to gel.

"Technically, they are excellent players and very creative. We know it is a huge part of their team, they have world-class players in every game but when you look back to our games against Manchester City and Liverpool we have given a really good account of ourselves and were unlucky to not get more points. This is in the same bracket as that."

  16. Haaland 'potential was insane at young age'published at 10:42 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Liverpool v Manchester City (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking ahead of Sunday's game against Manchester City:

"When he was very young, you could see the potential, it was insane.

"I don't think he started against us in a home game, I think he was injured or came on - but we were already pretty busy with thinking about him, I can remember that.

"How can you close him down, shut him down - he scored anyway!

"Physically he sets new standards, the combination of being really physical and technical and sensational awareness, his orientation on the pitch is exceptional, he knows always where the decisive gaps are, barely offside.

"Now at City he has some of the best players in the world at setting up goals - De Bruyne, Mahrez, Foden, Bernardo Silva, - so it's a perfect fit."

  17. 'There's a buzz in the group'published at 10:38 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Man Utd v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

More from Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe on the club's back-to-back wins: "Winning is so important, it changes everything. The players have trained very well this week. There has been a bounce and a buzz around the group. I'm keen to make sure the dangers that come with winning don’t rear their heads - complacency or overconfidence.

"It’s a really thin line to get the optimum performance and we have been pushing the group to want more.”

Is it easier going to Old Trafford in good form?: "Yeah, very much so. These games are very difficult at the best of times, but I think if you can go into these games with confidence and with a good feeling in the group it gives you best chance of a positive result.

"We know the next group of games are tough but we are going to attack them and try our best and give our all to get a positive result."

  18. 'Closing Haaland down opens up gaps for others'published at 10:35 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Liverpool v Manchester City (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking ahead of Sunday's game against Manchester City:

"These things can happen if you lose the ball in the wrong moment," he says of Liverpool's habit of conceding first.

"Obviously when you play against somebody at the moment who is the best striker in the world you have to make sure he doesn't get that many balls.

"That's what we will try but obviously against City the problem is if you close Haaland down with too many players you open up gaps for all the other world-class players.

"So that will not make life easier, it's a challenge, it's a football problem and we will try to find a solution."

  19. Team news - Isak & Krafth outpublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 14 October 2022

Man Utd v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe speaking ahead of Sunday's trip to Manchester United in the Premier League: "Alex Isak is making progress but he's not available for this game and no new injuries at the moment. Slow progress for Emil Krafth - it’s a serious injury. He is back in Sweden at the moment in the early stages of his rehab."
