Steven Gerrard accepts he has to deal with the expectations of managing a club the size of Aston Villa.

The former Rangers boss has been speaking frankly ahead of Aston Villa's match at home to Chelsea on Sunday.

On Villa counterpart Steven Gerrard: "The margins are very small in the Premier League - I'm sure Steven will want to improve their results.

"If they had beaten Forest they would have gone above Liverpool so that shows you how quick things change.

"There's always somebody under pressure in the Premier League and at the moment it's Steven."

Chelsea

"From the outside results are good, there are always things you can improve.

"But I can't sit here and complain about anything, with the results we've had.

"It was a really surreal start with the Queen's death, games being called off, not really knowing the players but I've got to credit the players - they have been really open and it has gone well.

"We haven't played that many games in the league, there are so many games to go."

Manchester United

Final thoughts from Erik ten Hag on Sunday's opponents Newcastle: "They do really well. I think it's a team who can play in high intensity with a lot of energy and that makes it a tough opponent. We know we have to play our best to get the right result."

On Cristiano Ronaldo's upcoming disciplinary hearing: "I don't know when the defence will be so we don't have a timeline."

Ronaldo received a police caution after he knocked a phone out of a fan's hands in an incident following a1-0 defeat by Everton at Goodison Park in April.

Manchester United

Ten Hag on the impact of Thursday's victory in the Europa League, after Scott McTominay broke the deadlock against Omonia Nicosia in stoppage time: "We always go from game to game. It gives another impulse to the team, to the belief.

"The spirit is already good but it will give a push to that spirit again. It will strengthen the belief in the squad. For the rest, we have to go from game to game.

"These are tough opponents but we are really looking forward [to them]. These are real tests for us as a squad to go into battle. And, as I say, it delivers energy."

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag on Marcus Rashford: "He did a lot of things well but finally he knows that he has to be more clinical and he had to score a goal. When you have such good movements and make such good combinations, good actions, then you have to finish.

"I know sometimes it's the game, it's not your night and it's about the form of the day, but it can change in another game.

"I think he's in a really good run, that shows in the chances he creates. Now it's two games he's been a little unlucky. On Sunday he deserved a goal but they cancelled it, today he didn't score. I say save it for the coming week."

On Anthony's early development: "I think we have seen now his dribbling capabilities, his speed, his finishing, his creating. Now also he has to work on more variation. He is a player who can adapt quickly to a high level. He's a player who likes challenges. He needs challenges.

"Every training for him is a challenge, every game is a challenge and that will make the best out of him. He likes that. I think there's a lot of space for improvement with him but he's already at a really good level. He's the first player to score three in a row [first three Premier League games] for Manchester United in all history. That already shows his potential."

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, speaking ahead of Sunday's game at home to Newcastle, on whether his strikers can score 20 goals this season: "Yes, I'm confident, mostly. In my teams, there are players who will score. They come into the position and in the last part, it's also about the freedom from the player, the intuition, the space they have to take.

"When they have that feeling then you will see that when they have the talent, when they have the potential, they will score that number of goals.

"I think we have in our squad players who can score that number of goals, but you can also divide it, because we have many goal scorers across the offensive department. But I think we also need something from midfield and the defensive department."

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag gave an injury update ahead of Sunday's game against Newcastle: "Anthony Martial can be [back] but we have to wait to see how he develops in the coming hours. Harry Maguire will not make this [game] but it doesn't take long I think. I think next week he'll be back in the team training or over [i.e. after] next week."

On worries Reece James could miss the World Cup after coming off with a knee problem against AC Milan: "Reece is due to see a specialist over the weekend so until we get that information there's not too much I can add. We will wait and see.

"There's discomfort so we just need to check and see a specialist. When we spoke yesterday he didn't feel so bad but you need to get things checked and see the way forward."

Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl speaking to the media ahead of Sunday's game with West Ham:

"I have not really had one minute to think about it," the Austrian said, when quizzed about fears over his job following four straight defeats.

"This is not the way I plan my week - as long as I am here I do my best to make us successful. It costs so much energy there is no energy left to think about that question.

"For me, the only goal is to see my team working hard and knowing that on the weekend we have a very important game for this club, the fans - it's not about me, it's about winning points and coming in a better position in the table.

"I think since I have been here we have not been below the [relegation] line so it’s necessary to win on Sunday or we could be below that line.”

Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl speaking to the media ahead of Sunday's game with West Ham:

"Your best XI is the team that will get you points and that is what we had in the first four, five weeks of the season.

"We lost our best XI with some injuries and since then we are searching for the ideal team, but this is not a bad thing because it gives players chance to step up.

"It seems in the moment every challenge gets tougher this season, which is not surprising when you speak about investment from other clubs."

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves caretaker manager Steve Davis on injury updates ahead of Saturday's match at home to Nottingham Forest: "Diego Costa covered more minutes than we thought at Chelsea. Hopefully he can continue to give those sort of minutes or maybe more. Depends how hard we can push him, we will look at live data during the game. We don’t want to push him too hard so soon.

"Raul Jimenez will not be available at the moment, so it's important we keep our focal point Diego fit.

"Short, medium and long-term injuries have stayed the same. The rest are back. Bouba [Traore] is back from illness. A slight illness for Gedge (Goncalo Guedes), that's the reason he came off, but he is OK and recovered well."

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves caretaker manager Steve Davis on the club's search for a permanent manager: "Honestly, I don’t know about that. Apart from what's in the papers. All I've been doing is focusing on points and a good performance tomorrow. That’s my remit and the direction we’re taking at the moment.

"It’s been easy for us as coaches. Myself and James [Collins] got on with what we need to do. We are experienced coaches. Things have to be right - organised and professional.

"It's how we’ve conducted ourselves over the last two weeks. I've not really looked at what’s away from the club. Inside it is still a good, positive feeling about everybody.

"Spirits are high considering our position. That’s important. We need to keep that flourishing and we’ll keep trying to do that."
