    All-square!

Bit of controversy to it, it has to be said.

A corner is awarded to the home side when it ought to have been a goal-kick but the Blades don't hang around to ask questions.

It's swung over to the back stick where Oli McBurnie gets up really well to head across goal for Iliman Ndiaye to bundle in from close range.

    Sheff Utd 0-1 Burnley

Sheffield United are just looking to get back into this after being knocked back by that somewhat fortuitous Burnley opener.

Enda Stevens trips up the lively Manuel Benson and has his name taken as a result.

    First booking of the game.

    Sheff Utd 0-1 Burnley

    Should it be 2-0?!

Taylor Harwood-Bellis gets himself totally free at a corner but powers a header over the crossbar from five yards out.

Big let off for the home side.

  4. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Sheff Utd 0-1 Burnley

I gave the Clarets opener as a Jack Robinson own goal but "the powers that be" are crediting it to Manuel Benson, which is probably about fair enough I guess.

Three in three for the Belgian then.

Sheffield United just backed off and let Manuel Benson have so much space - it was a decent ball in from Ian Maatsen, you can see what Benson's trying to do, curl it into that far corner.

It's a great header from Jack Robinson! I think Benson should claim it, as I think it was on target.

    Oh, that's unlucky.

A corner is half-cleared out before Ian Maatsen sends it back into the area.

It comes out on the edge of the area for Manuel Benson and he aims a curled effort for the far corner, Jack Robinsontries to get it away but it skews off his head and flies into the top corner of Wes Foderingham's near post.

The Clarets won't care. The league leaders lead.

Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric is rattled just now.

The ex-Manchester City man decides to come and punch a corner and gets nowhere near it.

Oli McBurnie sends his header over the bar but anything on target would have likely dropped in the net.

  8. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Burnley

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany said pre-match that Jay Rodriguez misses out today as they manage his minutes amid the hectic schedule.

His absence means the Clarets don't really have an out-and-out number nine on the pitch.

That's not to say their in-form forwards can't cause the home side a whole heap of problems of course.

  9. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Burnley

    Ooof.

A long throw from Jack Robinson causes real consternation in the Burnley box.

It's hacked away from near the goalline but Clarets keeper Arijanet Muric is not enjoying having to deal with these balls into the area. Not one bit.

  10. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Burnley

Both these teams had tough battles in midweek but they've started this game with real intent.

Blades defender Jack Robinson lets Manuel Benson 'know he's there' with a strong tackle on the touchline.

I think it's going to be one of those games where it's back and forth.

Both teams will get on top and have their moments.

Burnley started brightly but Sheffield United are coming into it now.

  12. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Burnley

The Blades win the first corner of the match down their left.

Oli Norwood swings it right into the middle and the away side manage to just hack it away.

    The home side pressing.

  13. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

    We're under way.

Third v first in the Championship in front of a packed house in South Yorkshire.

    Lovely stuff.

Give this post a thumbs up for the Blades and down for today's visitors the Clarets.

The EFL weekend got under way last night as Preston recorded a 2-1 win at Reading.

A double from veteran Ched Evans gave the Lilywhites a third successive win and propelled them up to fifth in the table.

Lucas Joao scored a penalty in between Evans' two goals but the Royals are now without a win in three.

You can read the report from that one just here.

  17. Team Newspublished at 12:19 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

Sheff Utd v Burnley (12:30 GMT)

Sheffield United make three changes from their battling 1-0 win at Bristol City. In-form striker Oli McBurnie is back in the XI after having a rest from the start of that one.

Burnley are without leading goalscorer Jay Rodriguez, who is rested as the Clarets manage his minutes, so the onus will be on talented forward Manuel Benson to deliver. Midfielder Josh Cullen come in for the suspended Josh Brownhill.

  18. In good Kompany?published at 12:16 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

Sheff Utd v Burnley (12:30 GMT)

FA Cup first round weekend means we're down to just the Championship in terms of EFL action today.

But fear ye not, we've got an absolute belter to kick the day off with.

League leaders Burnley are in tremendous form and a win today would see them go nine points clear of third-placed Sheffield United.

The Blades have gone through a bit of a tough patch but successive wins mean they'll come into today's match against Vincent Kompany's men with renewed confidence.

After that we've got nine more second tier games, including a first home match for new Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick, so stick with us.

    Off we go.
