  1. I can understand the negativity - Havertzpublished at 12:32 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

German forward Kai Havertz has been speaking ahead of their crunch match against Spain tomorrow.

Germany lost 2-1 to Japan in their opening match and have been on the receiving end of plenty of criticism back home.

"I can understand the negativity of fans and media," Havertz said.

"We know we face criticism and not everyone is behind us. But the past is the past ... and it is a big game on Sunday."

Germany have won just two and lost five of their last eight tournament matches at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups as well as at last year's Euros.

That statistic looks even worse when the 2022 Nations League matches are included with another four draws, one loss and only one win.

"It is difficult to say that statistic is in our favour but in the past few years there was an overhaul of the team, a change of coach and news players, and that plays a role," Havertz said.

"But that is no excuse. At the end of the day what matters are the tournaments and when you see the statistic it is 1000% too small. We have to turn things around."

The eight stadiums being used in the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar are separated by just 43 miles and are approximately an hour apart in a car.

But how many games can you go to in a day?

Entirely deserved win for Iran. Wales lacking cutting edge and not being careful enough in possession. And I say this as a fellow Celt who wanted them to win.

    Graeme, Scotland

Got to feel sorry for the fans. If the Welsh players had the same passion as these awesome fans, they would have done so much better.

Their World Cup is very much alive and kicking.

Jack: Kieffer Moore still looking forward to knocking England out?

James: Gutted for Wales but unfortunately, Iran has been the better side. At a World Cup, you have to turn up for every single game or you're in trouble.

Wales pour forward and they are hit on the counter.

Ramin Rezaeian looks like he might have lost control of the ball, but with his next touch, he delicately lifts the ball past Danny Ward to seal victory.

Iran players and fans celebrate together. Wales look desolate.

It's agony at the other end of the ground as the Wales fans mirror their players with heads in hands.

  19. Iran totally different after extraordinary events of England gamepublished at 11:35 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Wales 0-0 Iran

    Pooriah Jafreh
    BBC Persian sport reporter

The match against Wales is totally different after the extraordinary events of the England game.

The players were apparently under a lot of pressure from the government to sing the national anthem this time.

However, looking at the footage of them doing it, some look uninterested in singing the anthem – which is very different to other teams singing their national anthem.

Friends inside Al Rayyan Stadium are telling me there is mixture of pro-government and anti-government fans inside the stadium - but most of them opting to support Iran this time.

In footballing terms this is as attacking as it can get from Carlos Queiroz. Iran feel if they beat Wales today they have very good chance to qualify for the knockout stage for the first time ever.

They might only need a draw against USA in their last match.

Into the final 20 minutes at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, and we're still awaiting the first goal.

Iran have hit the post a couple of times and forced Wayne Hennessey into a good save from the rebound.
