  1. 'Argentina will be really aggressive in the final'published at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

    France 2-0 Morocco

    Didier Drogba
Former Ivory Coast striker on BBC One

Argentina will know that the French team don't like to receive a lot of knocks. Argentina are really aggressive and they won't let Kylian Mbappe face the game. They will try and block him because they know he is the main man. It is going to be difficult for them to handle Tchouameni, Griezmann and even Dembele.

We don't talk about Dembele I think he has been helping Jules Kounde a lot. He has been working really hard.

Why is everyone getting so hung up on Argentina's reaction to beating the Netherlands? It was a feisty, tense and exhilarating game with both teams sniping at each other throughout. Fair play to Argentina for celebrating getting through that. People can be so overly sensitive! Sport can be emotional (there are boundaries of course!!).

  3. Do France need Benzema for final?published at 13:55 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

Karim Benzema has been back in training with Real Madrid. Will he make a return to Qatar and be an option for Didier Deschamps?

Olivier Giroud has stepped up to replace him at the World Cup and has done a pretty great job in doing so, scoring four goals.

Another World Cup winner's medal for Benzema would be the cherry on top after an incredible year which saw him win La Liga, the Champions League and Ballon d'Or.

    But do France need him?

Hit the thumbs - Up for yes, and down for no.

  4. Deschamps dodges question about Benzema's returnpublished at 13:49 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

Argentina v France (Sun, 15:00 GMT)

Karim Benzema could be available to make a sensational return for the World Cup final on Sunday.

The 34-year-old Real Madrid striker was ruled out at the beginning of the tournament after injuring his thigh during training in Qatar.

However, manager Didier Deschamps opted not to replace Benzema in the squad and reports suggest that the Ballon d'Or winner could be fit again for a return.

Asked whether the striker could feature against Argentina, Deschamps preferred not to answer.

    Lionel Messi. Kylian Mbappe.

Two of the best footballers in the world - but could another star be joining them on the pitch on Sunday?

  7. Echoes of 1986?published at 13:37 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

    Gary Lineker
    Ex-England striker on BBC One

I look at this Argentina side and I see one very similar to the side that won the World Cup in 1986.

They are very aggressive, they have a lot of strong, powerful players, not hugely gifted talent all over the field but they have a really good centre forward in Jorge Valdano in 1986 and now Julian Alvarez and then they give the ball to a genius, Maradona and now Messi.

It is a similar approach, will it be good enough?

  9. 'Try to man-mark Messi, he will eat you alive'published at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

Argentina v France (Sun, 15:00 GMT)

    Julien Laurens
French football expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

How to deal with Lionel Messi will be one of the key questions for France, just like how to deal with Kylian Mbappe will be one of the key questions for Argentina.

It has to be a collective effort. You can't have someone man-marking Messi and following him everywhere on the pitch because Messi will eat you alive if you do that.

I guess the idea will be to ensure he gets as little of the ball as possible but, again, that is very difficult.

Maybe France are slightly better in terms of their structure. It still feels like when Argentina play it is like 'give the ball to Messi and we will see what happens'. But Julian Alvarez is in form, so is Alexis Mac Allister, so they also have other top players.

The only worrying thing for all us football purists who want to see Lionel Messi lift the trophy is that this French team find a way to win.

My head says France will get over the line even though my heart doesn't want them to.

If you love football - Messi has given so many of us so much joy. It's like a romantic film, you always want it to end well.

Torn between supporting France and Argentina. On the one hand, England losing to the eventual champions isn’t so bad. On the other hand, Argentina’s story is brilliant. And of course, the Messi factor plays a part…

Sad to say that this is a World Cup final where I wish both sides could lose. Argentina lost my support after the Netherlands issues and France appear arrogant without just cause. My prediction? Messi to get his winners medal as France can't defend. Morocco deserved at least a draw.

The first World Cup since Maradona passed away, a 36 year wait from their last victory, and already suffering 2 World Cup Final defeats. I wouldn't say it's easy to support Argentina in the final, but they have my backing.

    Chris

I will be supporting Argentina. I would like to highlight the tremendous shift being put in by the Argentina midfield game after game who are the driving force of this team. A shout out to Scaloni too who has got the tactics spot on.
