Right, I think that finishes up our reaction to last night's game between France and Morocco.

Let's now look ahead to Sunday's final and the main talking points surrounding that.

But just before we do that, here's some wholesome Sarina Wiegman content...

  2. Thuram is following in his father's footstepspublished at 11:29 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

    France 2-0 Morocco

Marcus Thuram is on his way to a World Cup final, 24 years after his dad Lilian won the trophy on home soil.

The 25-year-old forward was only a baby when his father made history with Zinedine Zidane and company. Interestingly, Thuram's current manager, Didier Deschamps, was the captain of that France 98 squad.

In Qatar, Borussia Monchengladbach player Thuram has been used as a substitute, coming on late in some games to replace Olivier Giroud.

On Sunday, he will have the opportunity to add a second World Cup winner's medal to the family collection. Not bad.

  4. Varane thought his World Cup dream was over a month agopublished at 11:20 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

Argentina v France (Sun, 15:00 GMT)

Raphael Varane has recovered remarkably to make it to a World Cup final.

The France and Manchester United centre-back picked up a leg injury in October, which left him out of action until the start of the tournament.

His minutes had to be managed a little during the group stages, but the 29-year-old has now once again established himself as a first-choice starter, playing the full 90.

France is a special team because they control games and even if they are under pressure at times they always find a way - they have incredible mental strength.

We said after the England game, they have a ruthlessness about them that winning sides have. It is no surprise they have reached four finals in the last seven World Cups. It's really incredible when you think about it.

They are there again - not by playing great all of the time, but by having moments. And when you have Kylian Mbappe in your team, anything is possible, like for Lionel Messi.

No one can touch Olivier Giroud.

France's all-time top scorer had this funny reaction during celebrations on Wednesday.

    France

France President Emmanuel Macron, who was in the stands at Al Bayt stadium last night, said: "Our compatriots need simple and pure joy, sport provides it and soccer in particular.

"We suffered a lot but we saw a great team. A huge thank you to our coach and to this team which is in fact a mixture of several generations and that is what is great."

  8. Fastest semi-final goal since 1958published at 11:02 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

    France 2-0 Morocco

    Theo HernandezImage source, Getty Images

Theo Hernandez's early goal against Morocco (04:39) is the fastest goal in a World Cup semi-final since Vava netted in the second minute of Brazil's 5-2 win against France in 1958.

The AC Milan left-back also becomes the first player born in Marseille to score a World Cup goal since Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 final.

  9. 'France are a ruthless winning team'published at 10:59 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

    France 2-0 Morocco

    Julien Laurens
French football expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

Deschamps is doing an incredible job. You have to count us among the top nations in those competitions. It wasn't always pretty and it wasn't against Morocco and I don't think it was good enough.

If you play like this against Argentina on Sunday, you don't win but it doesn't matter because this is a winning team.

It is very mixed feelings, because I can guarantee you there are people who are very happy about the result and this is a game about results. There are other people that would think the team should be playing better than they are even with the players that are missing. With this squad and this talent.

You shouldn't have 39% possession of the ball against Morocco in the semi-final of the World Cup when you have a better squad than them, when you have the experience that they don't have. I can understand the debate and it was exactly the same in 2018.

This team is very similar to the team that won in 2018 and it would be because it's the same coach but the debate again between today and Sunday will be exactly the same. It is a fair case to say they could play better.

Deschamps has made this team a ruthless winning team. That's all they care about. It's all about winning.

  10. Griezmann is the new Kantepublished at 10:56 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

    France 2-0 Morocco

    No Kante, no problem.

When Chelsea midfielder, N'Golo Kante was ruled out of the World Cup, it felt like a major loss for the World Cup holders, France.

However, the gaping hole that had been left in midfield by Kante's absence has been filled with aplomb by an unlikely player - Antoine Griezmann.

Didier Deschamps' decision to tweak the 31-year-old forward's role has paid off. Throughout the tournament, Griezmann has been outstanding both defending and also going forward for Les Bleus.

He was named player of the match against Morocco and the pundits in the BBC studio also made comparisons between him and Kante.

Arunit Chatterjee: Take out the penalties and Messi has arguably been the 4th best player after Amrabat, Mbappe and Griezmann. But we all know who would win the Golden Ball anyways.

  12. No one gets past Amrabatpublished at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

    France 2-0 Morocco

Even Kylian Mbappe struggled against Morocco's Sofyan Amrabat.

The 26-year-old midfielder was the main driving force behind his country's attack during Wednesday's semi-final tie with France.

One of the best moments of the match, however, came in the second half, when Amrabat sprinted back to block an Mbappe run and put in a perfectly-timed tackle that thwarted the 23-year-old superstar forward.

We knew how great friends [Paris St-Germain team-mates] Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi were, so it was one of the great story lines leading into the semi-final.

I saw them in the tunnel after the game, sitting down, literally on their own, the two of them, continuing to talk. Talking about maybe the semi-final, the final, maybe the holidays they are going to take together after the World Cup? I don't know, but it was a very special moment.

It was a special moment, also, for the relationship between France and Morocco - two countries that have a long history together. This game was very special in that sense too, so it was about more than football.

  15. The Mbappe x Hakimi love is realpublished at 10:35 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

    France 2-0 Morocco

Following Wednesday's semi-final, Kylian Mbappe swapped shirts with his Paris Saint Germain team-mate, Achraf Hakimi.

The two young stars have a great relationship off the pitch and Mbappe has been a major cheerleader for Morocco right back Hakimi throughout the World Cup.

    Nice to see.

One wonders what Britain's most successful Olympic track athlete made of Kylian Mbappe's speed over distance.

  18. A lot of love between France and Moroccopublished at 10:22 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2022

    France 2-0 Morocco

    Morocco were worthy of respect.

The Atlas Lions ultimately fell short against France, but what they achieved up to that point cannot be underestimated. Morocco managed four clean sheets in six games and toppled giants Belgium and Portugal before eventually succumbing to the World Cup holders.

There was a lot of respect shown between the players after the game.

I wasn't sad that Morocco lost yesterday due to the achievement they've made going to the semis. They should be proud of what they have achieved and have proven team work and hard work go hand in hand. Though they lost they kept the game alive! They did lack a striker. P.S. Ounahi and Amrabat need to get signed by a big club ASAP
