    Arsenal v Newcastle (19:45 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe speaking to Sky Sports: "It will produce a good game. From our perspective we have to be at our best. Mikel [Arteta] has done an amazing job, we have to be at our best.

"Tactically they play a very high level game, we have to be good tactically and have solid foundations. It will be interesting to see the two styles and we hope we can come out on top.

"We have our way of playing and we want to display that in our best form, that's the challenge."

On return of Callum Wilson: "He's keen to play, he's had a period at the World Cup, he picked up an illness but he's back, fit and ready. We hope he will provide a different focal point to Chris Wood and an effective one.

"Pressure on both teams, we've lived well under the pressure so far. Sometimes that can generate a good performance it's just controlling it in the right way."

Arsenal have won 11 successive home games against Newcastle in all competitions, keeping clean sheets in each of the last seven, since a 1-0 league defeat in November 2010.

Newcastle won 2-0 at home in the most recent meeting last May and are vying to earn consecutive league victories in this fixture for the first time since the mid-1990s.

Arsenal could equal the Premier League record of 29 clean sheets against a particular opponent, currently held by Manchester United against Tottenham.

Dean: The lack of attacking options on the United bench is concerning. Desperately need a striker in Jan.

Alf: They've got a classy defence, an abundance of creativity, plenty of strength in depth... And to top it all off a top, top manager. Can Arsenal go all the way? As 70s superstar Burt Reynolds would have said- 'You betcha!'

  9. 'Varane is very important player'published at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

Man Utd v Bournemouth (20:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag on Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof: "They were ill and they recovered. We thought they would start on the restart [after the World Cup] but they were not available.

"[Raphael] Varane covered some games and we know we have to manage him and keep him fit. He is a very important player for us and he is a leader and that is why he is having a game out.

"We have many combinations [in defence] and it is all about rules. We defend as a team, as an 11, when you keep the rules you can get the clean sheet with aggressiveness and timings, people in their departments doing their jobs and that's what we are aiming for.

"It is always good [being in the top four] but we are not looking that much at the rankings, we are not even half way.

"It is about the progress and today we hope to take another step."

Ten Hag also confirms that Brazil forward Anthony is injured.

Leicester are without a win in all 10 of their league matches this season against teams currently above them in the table, conceding 26 goals in those games.

The Foxes have suffered successive home league defeats for the first time since losing four in a row under Claude Puel between December 2018 and February 2019.

They have lost an unrivalled 17 points from a winning position this season.

City are vying to avoid losing three straight top-flight home matches without scoring for the first time since August to September 1983.

    Arsenal v Newcastle (19:45 GMT)

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I have been waiting for Arsenal's run to come to an end and it doesn't look like it's going to - they are the real deal this year.

They have been excellent this season, the signings they have made - the greatest gift you can give a manager is time and they are just reaping the rewards from that.

    Arsenal v Newcastle (19:45 GMT)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Emirates Stadium

Newcastle United have made outstanding progress under manager Eddie Howe and so many of the Toon Army now believe the dream of a top four finish and a place in next season's Champions League can realistically be on their radar.

Tonight's visit to Premier League leaders Arsenal will provide an excellent measure of how far Newcastle have come because Mike Arteta's side are playing outstanding football and fully merit their place at the top if the table.

Should be an intriguing night at Emirates Stadium.

Manchester United have won seven of their 10 Premier League meetings (D1, L2) against Bournemouth, who have lost eight of their nine away games at Old Trafford.

The exception to that was a 1-1 Premier League draw in March 2017 with Marcos Rojo and Josh King on the scoresheet that day.

  14. Fulham on a highpublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    Leicester v Fulham (19:45 GMT)

Fulham's tally of 25 points is their highest after 17 games of a top-flight season since 2009-10.

They are close to their final haul from their two most recent Premier League campaigns - 26 points in 2018-19 and 28 points in 2020-21.

The Cottagers are aiming to win three consecutive Premier League matches for the second time this season, a feat they last managed in 2011-12.

They could also earn back-to-back Premier League away victories in the same season for the first time since April to May 2011 under Mark Hughes.

  15. Sutton's predictionpublished at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    Everton v Brighton (19:45 GMT)

    SuttonImage source, .

The sooner that Brighton's World Cup winner, Alexis Mac Allister, is back in action for them the better but they do have another key midfielder, Moises Caicedo, back from suspension for this game, which is a big boost.

Everton got a great point against Manchester City but they really need a home win now to follow that up, and I am not convinced they have enough firepower to get it.

  16. Will O'Neil make it three?published at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

Man Utd v Bournemouth (20:00 GMT)

Bournemouth are priced as rank outsiders for this one but should his side win this evening, Gary O'Neil will achieve a notable milestone.

Having said that, the Cherries have the worst defensive record in the Premier League this season, having conceded 36 times and 26 of those have come on their travels.

  17. 'Newcastle's biggest test of the season'published at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    Arsenal v Newcastle (19:45 GMT)

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Away from home at Arsenal in the form that Arsenal are in - it will be a good test for Newcastle and a good indicator for Eddie Howe. He's put this group together and seen them develop and grow and now they've got the biggest test of the season against a team that are absolutely flying. He will learn a lot from his team today and how capable they are of continuing this run of form.

  18. 'Team have to step up'published at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

    Arsenal v Newcastle (19:45 GMT)

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta speaking to Sky Sports: "They [Newcastle] are a good team in a good moment. They are very competitive so we have to compete.

"We think this is the best team to win the game. We have other players who will have to step up, Gabriel [Jesus] is a vital player for us and the rest of the team have to step up and make a difference in the game.

"I can't manage expectations I can manage what we do every day with the players and staff."

On what Arsenal need to do to win: "Everything, we have to start well, compete well, be in duels in the boxes - they are really physical and they like to run so everything is key."

  19. Sutton's predictionpublished at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2023

Man Utd v Bournemouth (20:00 GMT)

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

I am a bit worried about where Bournemouth are heading - they have lost six of their past seven league games and conceded two poor goals from set plays against Crystal Palace.

With five successive wins in all competitions, Manchester United are heading in the opposite direction.

It obviously helps a lot that Marcus Rashford is playing so well at the moment, but Erik ten Hag is doing a very good job and they are a team that looks full of confidence.

    Prediction: 3-0
