    Everton v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on Football Focus

There is a lot going on around Everton today and Lampard needs to concentrate on what is happening on the pitch. There isn't an appetite to change manager there but today is a must win game.

    Everton have to win.

Frank Lampard needs a positive result...

We may be barely halfway through the season but this feels like a huge day for Everton and Southampton as they look to start climbing away from trouble.

Toffees fans, in particular, are aghast they are in this position once again after only just escaping the drop last term and frustrations against how the club is being run are expected to be shown in a sit-in protest after full time at Goodison Park.

Before the match there were chants of sack the board by some of those gathered on Goodison Road but once the team coach arrived they gave a huge show of support for arriving players.

The fans may have their grievances with the board, who have been advised to stay away from Goodison Park for safety reasons today, but they are clearly behind their team.

FT: Man Utd 2-1 Man City

    Manchester United

Manchester United goalscorer Bruno Fernandes to BT Sport: "It's always important to win a game. As the manager said it doesn’t matter who the opponents are. Amazing comeback.

"I said before the game we look like a team now. Some time ago sometimes each one of us was looking for ourselves. Now you see a proper team playing for each other."

On the equaliser: "Because I was facing goal Marcus saw I was in a better position. I didn’t know if either of us were offside or not. The only one [defender] close was close to me."

On being one point behind City: "That doesn’t matter for us. We have to look forward to the next game. If you don't keep winnng they’ll go [City will go more points clear]. We’ll ceebrate a big win but from tomorrow our focus has to be on the next game."

Offside or not, City did nothing to win the match. One shot on target, in 90 minutes. A draw would have been fair. A win it is though.

    Anon

Hiding behind Rashford being "offside" is ignoring the fact that no one adequately tracked Bruno's run. Deal with it rather than relying on the referee.

    Joel Sparks, Flintshire

Rashford was so interfering with play that he probably should be given the assist for that goal! Shouldn't mask the fact that City were defensively very poor today. You always feel there's something for you if you attack them.

The fans are appreciating that Ten Hag is putting the club first. They're appreciating that he's trying to get the club going the right way with the values of the club itself and of the fans. No one is bigger than any football club, let alone Manchester United.

If Salah against Wolves isn't offside then that isn't offside. At least there's consistency - even if it's consistently wrong.

  11. 'All they will talk about is the equaliser'published at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

FT: Man Utd 2-1 Man City

    John Murray
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

What this means is - and they all know it here - Manchester United move to within one point of Manchester City in the table. Similarly, Arsenal now know that if they're able to win at Tottenham, they will have an eight-point lead. All this after Jack Grealish put Manchester City in front.

What they will all be talking about on Match of the Day will be that Manchester United equaliser and whether it should have been allowed.

Coming of age performance from Ten Hag and United. We were down and out in the reverse fixture. There's a togetherness now about this team.

    Mark, Manchester

Offside is offside, never liked this "not interfering" rule. And I'm a United fan ( very happy though).
