  1. 'We played a great game'published at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT: Brighton 3-0 Liverpool

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi, speaking to BBC Sport: "The players were fantastic today. I think we played a great game.

On if this is his finest win: I don't know but I think one coach has to follow the perfection and the perfection is not exiced. I'm speaking about coaches, and for this we can work a long time to follow perfection.

When asked about March and Mitoma playing well: For all the short passes we found the space to attack the line of Liverpool. I think Levi [Colwill] played a fantastic game, the same as [Pervis] Estupinan with the injury, it was incredible. [Adam] Lallana and Alexis [Mac Allister] are both two teachers on the pitch.

On the reception for Alexis Mac Allister: "Alexis is a fantastic player but I think more people know this fact. Before being a fantastic player he's a fantastic guy. Already ready to play, to learn, to improve. He's a World Cup champion and this explains better who is Alexis."

On other teams now being interested in his players: "I hope for them. Will be right if they will play for the great, great, great teams. I hope they can finish the season with us, with me. We can enjoy a lot this year, they can improve and we can dream."

On having 30 points at this time of the season: "Now we have to play Leicester and we have to try the way to win. We have to only think like this."

Brentford have never beaten Bournemouth in the top flight. Bournemouth have never beaten Brentford in the top flight.

Neither team has ever scored against the other in the top flight.

That is because the goalless draw on 1 October is the only time these sides have ever met at this level before.

Ninth-placed Brentford are looking to equal their club record of three successive Premier League victories.

Their current run of six Premier League games unbeaten is a club record. Only Newcastle and Arsenal are currently on longer streaks.

Boss Thomas Frank said: "They have a big belief. We want to end as high as possible. The biggest thing for me is that we are constantly aware of how hard we need to train.

"Last year I felt we were very consistent with our performance through the season. This season we’ve been constantly putting decent performances out there and hopefully we’ve added layers to the team performance."

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank speaking to Sky Sports: "Ivan Toney is a big player for us. He has done so well this season. Besides his goals, it's also his presence on the pitch, particularly his leadership. It's nice to have the best players on the pitch.

"We also love to have Rico Henry on the pitch. Unfortunately, a minor calf strain so hopefully he is going to only miss this game.

"We've been very successful with the 3-5-2 formation and we try to stick with that. I don't think there's any news that I'd like to be flexible either before or during the game. We love to have flexibility in general.

"I am a positive person, so it's fantastic to perform against the so-called big six sides. We want to beat every team in this division, but it's not that easy. One thing I'll promise is that we will come flying out, be aggressive, will be cool, brave and hopefully we can take three points."

Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil is hoping the club will have "a few additions" by the end of the January transfer window.

Following a run of three defeats in the Premier League since the World Cup, the Cherries find themselves 17th in the table, one point off the relegation zone.

They remain the only team yet to score a Premier League goal since the break.

Current form and injuries mean the club, under new owner Bill Foley, is looking to strengthen the squad this month.

"Everyone's working hard trying to get some things done that will help the club short and longer term," said O'Neil.

"The next few weeks and months will be big, we know that. As always, focus is 100% on this game."

Chris Mitchell: Nottingham Forest showing what can happen if you keep faith with your manager. Delighted for Steve Cooper and the club. Let’s hope Liverpool show the same faith in Jurgen Klopp.

Chino M: Klopp does not have the energy for a desperately needed rebuild. Maybe it's time for a change?

Glenn Rainton: Lampard must go. The status quo guarantees relegation, a new manager might just change momentum, it’s a gamble as these players aren’t good enough, but a glimmer is better than nothing.

  7. 'A dream week, really'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT: Everton 1-2 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton manager Nathan Jones, speaking to Sky Sports: "It has been a big week after the Forest defeat and the negativity surrounding that. Three competitions, three wins - massive, massive week. We had to really dig deep today they were a very physically strong side. Once we got to grips with that I thought we were the better team.

    "A dream week, really."

On James Ward-Prowse: "For me he is the best technician in the Premier League. The best thing is his humility, his work rate and desire to do well for Southampton football club. That is what makes him very, very special."

This one feels a bit easier to predict - it's definitely a Brentford home win.

Bournemouth are in freefall and also got walloped by Championship leaders Burnley in the FA Cup. The Cherries lost 4-2 but the scoreline flattered them.

Brentford are super-organised and very lively going forward. I can see them cutting through Bournemouth pretty easily.

    Prediction: 2-0

  9. 'Everything went wrong'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT: Brighton 3-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson to PLP on what went wrong: "Everything. Everything went wrong from the start to the end. Brighton were better than us in all departments. It's a real low point as a team. We have to stay together. It's a tough moment but we need to get together, stay together and try and change things quickly. We have to try and learn and show a reaction.

"There wasn't one thing. It was numerous things and it hasn't been right for a little while now. Everybody knows that. We know we can be better. I'll take responsibility and the lads will. We have to try to put it right."

Worst performance under Jurgen Klopp? "Probably. I can't remember another one. A really tough day."

Feeling in the dressing room? "It's not good. We're pretty low on confidence. The energy level is low. Everything. We can't feel sorry for ourselves. We have to keep fighting and hopefully we can change it sooner rather than later."

Concerning? "Of course it's really disappointing. We know we can play better and give even more. But you have to keep working."

  10. 'Ward-Prowse is the best technician in the league'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT: Everton 1-2 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton manager Nathan Jones: "Just hard work, you've got to work hard and be hard willed. We've had three big wins in a week, two away from home and one against a very good side at home, it doesn't happen often. It's a big, big week for the club.

"The performances have been building and today we showed so many sides of our game. I'm so proud of our group.

On facing Everton: "I don't there is a bigger Premier League side in history in terms of height and strength! I felt we defended it superbly well for the majority. The goal is a poor one to concede for us, we have to do better.

"But first half we had some good situations and then stepped it up after the break. With a bit more composure, we could have extended our lead.

On James Ward-Prowse: "I wouldn't swap him for anyone. I've had two months with him now and he's a great character, great athlete and probably the best technician in the Premier League."

"We defended well today. We could have been a big more fluent, a bit more aggressive at times but when we were aggressive we were excellent."

  11. 'I have a fantastic team'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT: Brighton 3-0 Liverpool

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, speaking to PLP: "We are really happy for the result, for the quality of play. We expected another tactical disposition of the opponent but we understood immediately the different situation and responded fantastically. I have a fantastic team of fantastic players and for me it is an honour to work with them."

On now being above Liverpool in the table: "I don't want to speak about the table. We have a target at the end of the season. Now we are to play another 20-21 games and we have to stay focused only on the other games."

On Solly March: "He's a fantastic guy and fantastic player. I have a great squad and it's difficult to chose the first eleven."

On if this tops the 3-3 draw against Liverpool at Anfield: "Both are very important moments for me but very different. In Anfield it was my first game in PL, a different country, language, players. Now I'm getting to work here and for this one it's different."

On if Brighton are dreaming of Europe: "We have a dream and we want to work harder to achieve our target. For sure we will work hard to arrive."

  12. 'I can't remember a worse game'published at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT: Brighton 3-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to PLP: "Massively frustrated. Congrats to Brighton, they played a super game against a bad opponent. We were really not good today and I can't remember a good phase, period or whatever.

"We tried to help the boys with a different formation but it didn't work out at all. My responsibility, I know that. Tried to change it again in the second half but we were completely on the wrong foot.

"In moments it looked too easy for Brighton, the organisation was completely gone. It was too easy. It was just too easy and you cannot get back in this game."

On how it can be fixed: "By organising it. Doing better should be easy because this is a really low point. I can't remember a worse game.

"To improve that will be not too difficult. From this game we can pick up absolutely nothing apart from things that do not work."

On why Liverpool weren't at their best: "I have no sign for this performance before the game but that's how it is sometimes. There's nothing why I thought it could happen.

"It's not that they always came through with everything, we had balls, we won balls, we won possession. When we want to push the ball is already gone again.

"To improve should be not too difficult."

  14. 'We have to be very concerned'published at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT: Brighton 3-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Bad. Really bad. I can't remember a worse game. It's not difficult maybe. Brighton were the better team, it was well deserved. They played really well.

"It was a very organised team against a not very organised team. We gave the ball away, the spaces were too big and we couldn't push up. That is obviously not good, especially against a super well-drilled side like Brighton.

"They got more confident and we did the opposite. I can imagine they are very happy because it was a great performance and we made it too easy in too many moments.

"I had an idea to change the formation which was to try help the team. That was the idea. But we never did it properly. We were always a bit in between and that's the worst thing you can do. We could have done better but we didn't and that's why I looked the way it did.

"We need to be creative with the options we have. What I saw today from my team was that they were not really convinced by it. That's it.

What's going wrong? "How can you explain that? The same players played outstanding football matches but if things aren't properly organised then it can look like that. We were always a bit late and things like this. If you don't win key challenges and lose the ball too easily they are the two worst things that can happen in football. There is no formation that can solve that."

Are you concerned? "Yeah, how can you not be after a game like this? I cannot stand here and say it didn't happen. Of course, we have to be very concerned about it."

    FT: Wolves 1-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham full-back Aaron Cresswell: "We're really down, our confidence is low. But look we've been in worse situations over the years. We have to keep fighting, we're halfway through the season. We have to keep believing.

"We've been sloppy all over the park and that's why we're in this situation. But we have to stick together.

"We have to keep playing positive football. We have to get to the training room and work on this.

"We have big leaders in the dressing room, no-one is shying away. We shouldn't be here on the back of the last two seasons, but the reality is we're here.

"We can't start focusing on other teams. We have to focus on us and stick together and keep fighting."

Grant Jones: Not sure where Klopp and Liverpool go from here. Massive rebuilding job needed, but also a tactical rethink - players are burned out and the system has become totally predictable.

Crakkers: So who is to blame for Liverpool’s decline? We bought three attackers in 12 months when everyone has been shouting about the inept midfield. Is that FSG or Klopp?

Brighton winger Solly March, speaking to PLP: "It was a great day, not even the goals but the whole team. We deserved it thoroughly, it could've been more. Everyone played off the park, Everyone played out of their skins, it was a great day."

On the difference Roberto de Zerbi has made: "I think we're growing in confidence and it's giving belief and confidence. We love playing for him and hopefully it'll get better and better.

"We train really hard, he's so down to the details in everything he does. It seems to be working well."

On if Brighton are aiming for Europe: "We want to dream. Hopefully we'll just take it game by game, there's a long way to go and we're working hard so I hope so."

    FT: Nottingham Forest 2-0 Leicester

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson to PLP: "First and foremost, it is a really big win for us and what it means to the fans and for the table so a really big win all round.

"At half-time he [Steve Cooper] just said to be better and to increase our intensity and we did that.

"I'm working well with Gibbs-White and we are combining well when we are getting in on the right.

On his first goal: "I thought it was offside to be honest, the wait never gets easier."

"Every game here is special and it's a special feeling. Never changes how much I love celebrating goals here.

"We know we didn't perform well at the start of the season but we are growing into the game and growing into the league. We just need to keep chipping in with goals.

"We've had a really good week, and we're just using the momentum of the fans. They support us at home and away even when we aren't playing well so I think we owe everything to them."

  19. 'Feel like we've turned a corner'published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2023

    FT: Everton 1-2 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse: "I'm tired. It's been a big physical and emotional week. I feel like we’ve finally turned a corner. Today was a huge, huge step. We were up against it at half-time but we’ve dug in and shown what we’re all about in the second.

"The goal we conceded was poor. We weren’t aggressive enough and weren’t winning second balls. We felt like we were in the ascendency and you have to score when you’re on top. Thankfully, we did that."

On scoring twice and a new role: "Playing further forward suits me. The manager has given me license to get forward and into the box which gives me the chance to score more goals."

On overtaking David Beckham's free-kick record: "Yeah, it is a target but as long as they’re contributing to important points, that’s what counts. If we keep doing that then the personal accolades will come."

"This week has had a good positive feel about it. Three wins in a week, you can’t ask for much more."

Still the chants of 'sack the board' continue among some very angry Everton fans who are yet to leave Goodison. There must be a few thousand supporters still in the ground.

Another banner reads: "A chairman who wont let go.

    "An underqualified CEO,

"Chairman's mates on the board who won't say no.
