Nice move by Arsenal as Ben White gets in behind and clips a ball into the middle of the area for Eddie Nketiah, whose header bounces off the top of the bar.

Another break in play now as Aston Villa's Matty Cash is down needing treatment.

Archie: Zinchenko is the reason Arsenal are dropping points. Constantly out of position. Every pass is backwards. Completely ruins the flow and balance of what was a very good team!

Arthur: It would be interesting to hear what Arsenal fans feelings about the signing of Jorginho. In my opinion he doesn’t fit their style at all, too slow and getting older by the minute.

Vus: Honestly think Arsenal will be lucky to get 4th place this season. Revenge game for Unai Emery.

Wait, nope, Bukayo Saka is not okay. After sweeping a shot wide he sits on the grass and signals to the bench...

Bukayo Saka looks okay as he is picked out on the right. His cross is jabbed away to Martin Odegaard, who plays the ball back to Granit Xhaka but his shot is blocked.

Was that the reason behind the poor shot? Bukayo Saka is limping a little bit and Arsenal fans everywhere will be keeping everything crossed that he will shake off whatever the issue is.

Sarah: I can't understand what's gone wrong within the Arsenal team - it's the same players bar Trossard and the same tactics as before the FA Cup exit. All I can think of is the more likely a league title has become the more doubts and insecurities have crept in.

Roch: Zinchenko has been poor since the Everton game. Can’t have him and Jorginho in the same team. We need width, we’ve become too predictable.

Stevie:Can’t help but think since Jorginho signed, they’ve gone backwards. Is he the problem?

A promising moment for Arsenal as Granit Xhaka plays in Martin Odegaard. He stays onside before squaring to Bukayo Saka, who shapes to shoot on the edge of the area but gets his shot very wrong and it goes well, well wide.

Massive 45 minutes for Arsenal not just in this game, but their season.

Arsenal's problem is losing Martinelli's pace and form. No threat on the left, simply relying on long balls to Saka on the right which everyone has figured out. That plus Nketiah unable to finish has done Arsenal.

The game against Man City v Arsenal on 26 April was being billed as a massive game. At this rate it will all be over well before then.

    Adam

The headlines are always extremes with Arsenal - title or collapse - but whatever happens here, the trend is still very much up. The squad is small and clearly tired. Partey a big miss. Must stay positive.

Wolves are vying to equal a club record of three Premier League victories in a row.

They could also win three successive top-flight games at Molineux without conceding for the first time since a run of five between October and December 1969.

With Villa having a whole week's rest before today, Arsenal really needed something this first half. Going to be a tough second half for the tired Gooners.

Xhaka has been terrible since the World Cup but who comes in instead? At least Martinelli we now have cover for when he's been (deservedly) dropped.

There have been a lot of question marks over Jack Grealish since his £100m move. I think we are starting to see the real Jack Grealish now. His output is much better and we can see he has doubled his goals.

However, Steve Cooper's side are unbeaten in their last seven top-flight home matches, winning four and drawing three.

Sean Dyche will bring stability to Everton which they have lacked for a long time. They need to get back to basics. Everton came up a little bit short in the Merseyside derby and Sean will have learned something from that.

  17. 'I would give Skubala a chance'published at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    Everton v Leeds (15:00 GMT)

    Don Hutchison
Ex-Sunderland midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I've seen enough in [caretaker manager] Michael Skubala in his two games and I would not be panicking for a manager tomorrow at Leeds.

I would give Skubala a chance, I've seen enough in him so let him coach and manage until the end of the season.

The performances against Manchester United in two games were quite good.

  18. 'Everton will need help from their fans'published at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    Everton v Leeds (15:00 GMT)

    Sutton's predictions

This is a very hard one to call. Leeds still don't have a new manager, but they do have some talented attacking players.

One day, things will really click for them and they will take their opportunities - but they have already been waiting a while for that to happen, because they have not won a league game since Bonfire Night.

Everton were unlucky with the way they conceded their first goal against Liverpool on Monday, just seconds after hitting the post, but they didn't have enough up front without Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Calvert-Lewin won't be fit for this game either so I think Everton are going to need some help from their fans if they are going to get anything out of it - Goodison Park is going to have to play its part.

Everton are probably looking at the table and thinking they can stay up by winning their home games. Well, this is their opportunity and I am not convinced they will be able to take it.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

  19. Postpublished at 13:26 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

    Aston Villa 2-1 Arsenal

Aston Villa have a record of W5, D0, L0 when leading at half-time in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have a record of W1, D0, L1 when trailing at the break in the league in the current campaign.

Another day another protest from Everton fans but this one is here to stay.

On Friday evening, a Toffees campaign group released a statement, external saying a "peaceful march" will take place at every home game "from now until the end of the season".

The group also added that the current board are "not welcome at Goodison Park this season or ever again.

Their attendance would be a "distraction" and if they did come then another "post-match protest will be held outside the directors' car park."

Sean Dyche's tenure started with a dream win over Arsenal, followed by Monday's defeat by Liverpool and the only way to get the fans smiling again is to collect further points, starting with today's HUGE bottom of the table clash against Leeds.
