This has shades of Arsenal's collapse in the race for a Champions League place at the end of last season.

    Rob

If Arsenal don't make the top 4 this season. I want Mikel Arteta sacked. Absolutely no excuse for this collapse again.

    Charlie

As a Liverpool fan, can't say I feel sorry for Arsenal at all. We all know how this season goes. The same way it tends to. Only this time it's our turn to be the on the sidelines.

    Aston Villa 2-1 Arsenal

A roar from the Aston Villa fans as the whistle goes to end a fine first half.

Lots of work to do for Arsenal on what could be a huge day in the title battle.

Chris: Heard of a game of two halves but at this rate, a season of two halves being created!

Rezaa: People forget how young this team is. Nobody expected Arsenal to finish in the top 4 before the season even began. They're overachieving.

Matty: What happens to Xhaka when Partey isn't next to him? Jorginho has played alright, but Granit looks appalling. Zinny over complicating stuff too. There's definitely more goals in this though. Huge second half needed.

Martin Odegaard is down injured after getting caught by Tyrone Mings and now there's a breakout of a bit of scuffle between some Arsenal and Aston Villa players.

A bad tempered end to the half.

I'd love to see the stats on how many goals are given away by teams who insist on trying to pass out the back from goal kicks. Even if they're successful, most of the team is suddenly behind the ball from all coming back to relieve pressure - what's the point?!

Not much to read into Mikel Arteta's body language as he calmly watches the action on the pitch. Unai Emery, as ever, is an animated presence in the Villa dugout.

A couple of minutes to go until the break.

Leandro Trossard had a great impact when he came off the bench against Brentford last week, scoring four minutes after his introduction, but he's been pretty quiet so far in this game. Arsenal are mostly building their attacks down the right side.

It looks as if the transfer window with new players has affected Arsenal's form.

    Al

It's good that some people are writing Arsenal off. That will only spur them on to prove themselves. They here not by luck. The new players will inject fresh energy to see them through to the title!

Two shots on target and two goals for Aston Villa. They've not had many chances but have been devastatingly clinical with the ones they have had.

Approaching the end of a brilliant first half of football.

Rachel: Coutinho rolling back the years - and also the Arsenal defence.

Mark: What a fabulous goal from one end of the pitch to the other. Aston Villa right up for this. The cracks are beginning to show for Arsenal.

Gabriel: That Coutinho goal reminds me of Deco’s goal in the 2004 Champions League final against Monaco.

Back to square one for Arsenal. They were looking like they would kick on and get the win after equalising but were taken apart by a really nice move by Aston Villa.

A first of the season for Philippe Coutinho, and what a time to get it!

Poor defending from Arsenal really as Ben White is taken out by a pass in behind, Alex Moreno sends a low ball into the box that Emiliano Buendia cleverly dummies, allowing it to run through to Coutinho, who has time to place his shot into the back of the net.

    Arsenal are behind again.

Funny that there are so many people out there desperate for arsenal to fail! Robbed of a win against Brentford, then Beaten by the best team with the biggest squad in the league, but still with a game in hand on them. Arsenal are in the sort of position every other team in the league dreams of.. and while city might be favourites.. that's doesn't mean much, ask Leicester!

    Ian

We aren't judging Arsenal by one goal. We are judging them by being winless in three and shipping a 5-point lead. They aren't running in the same race as City.

Adam: The 2 sides of Tyrone Mings...

Arthur: People are very quick to judge Arsenal after one goal… just a reminder they still are in the title race.

Al: What was Alex saying at 12.44? They are very much still in this title race.
