  1. Poor Potters in need of Royals resultpublished at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Stoke v Reading (15:00 GMT)

Alex Neil raised a few eyebrows when he swapped Sunderland for Stoke back in August.

You have to wonder whether he's thinking he might have made the wrong choice himself at this stage.

The Scot has led the Potters to just seven wins from his 22 games in charge and successive league defeats mean they start today a paltry four points above the bottom three.

Paul Ince's Reading enjoyed a fine start to the campaign but look bound for midtable.

Neil will know he has to pick up a result today.

  2. Blackburn look to bounce back (again)published at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

Bristol City v Blackburn (15:00 GMT)

It's been quite the season for Blackburn so far.

Rovers sit fifth in the table despite having lost the same number of games as second-bottom Blackpool.

Remarkably, the Lancashire side, who were thumped 4-0 at Rotherham last week, are yet to draw a single match all season.

They visit a Bristol City side who are unbeaten in their past three and fresh off the back of beating Birmingham 4-2 last week.

  3. Hornets looking to be best of the rest?published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2023

    Watford v Rotherham (15:00 GMT)

January isn't even out but it already looks like the race for automatic promotion from the Championship is as good as over.

Burnley and Sheffield United both recorded victories in their Friday night games, meaning third-placed Watford start this afternoon 14 points behind the Blades and a whopping 19 off league leaders Burnley.

Slaven Bilic's Hornets have struggled for consistency all season but have won their past two league games.

Matt Taylor's Rotherham are fresh off a morale and league position boosting 4-0 home win over Blackburn last week, their first success since November.

Northampton's home game against Mansfield is one of nine League Two games to be postponed because of a frozen pitch

Ok, before we turn out attention to what's on this afternoon let's just start off by recapping what is OFF.

Here's an up to date list of all the matches not on today:

    League One

    • Bristol Rovers v Wycombe Wanderers
    • Lincoln City v Burton Albion

    FT: Coventry 2-4 Norwich

Former Norwich defender on BBC Radio Norfolk

Norwich have done really well today and put a statement out. That might make the rest of the league wary because they have played really well.

It's positive with eight goals in two games under David Wagner. That's a stat you'd love to keep.

    Coventry 2-4 Norwich

Three hard earned points for Norwich who could end the day third in the Championship if some other results go their way later.

They got off to an incredible start with three goals in the first 20 minutes but Coventry came storming back.

    The Canaries hold on.

Horrible Histories for the Sky Blues?

If Norwich beat Coventry for the second time this Championship season today, it will be the first time they've done the league double over them since 1980-81.

Coventry are putting some pressure on Norwich now.

Trying to pull one back but they're just lacking that clinical finish.

At last we have 100% vision and clarity in Coventry.

The sun has crucially dipped below the roof of the stand.

And I can confirm that the score, as I suspected, is indeed now 4-2 to Norwich. And I had a near perfect view of Teemu Pukki missing that great chance when clean through bearing down on goal.

The only downside of the sun going down, as all amateur weather forecasters, scientists and geographers will know, is that it is now suddenly perishing cold. And, although I have some lovely, thick new woollly gloves the wife bought me for Christmas, you can't type with them on!

    Always something to moan about!

Even reporting on a game as good as this!

The Sky Blues are on their worst run of form this season.

    Coventry 2-4 Norwich

Teemu Pukki goes through on goal, down the middle, and strikes just inside the penalty area.

But he is denied by an outstretched Ben Wilson who came off his line to fiercely defend the Coventry goal.

    Coventry 2-4 Norwich

Norwich's leader scorer Teemu Pukki may not have a goal but he's been a big factor so far today.

His slicing runs down the wing into the box and his drag-back-passes have had the Coventry back line in fits.

Norwich are doing the right thing. They are keeping the ball, but they are keeping it in Coventry's half.

They are really frustrating Coventry at the moment.

Coventry have made some changes since that fourth Norwich goal.

Gustavo Hamer is replaced by Jack Burroughs in midfield.

Fankaty Dabo comes off for Jonathan Panzo in defence.

And Brooke Norton-Cuffy makes way for Josh Wilson-Esbrand.

    Can Coventry respond?

There is still plenty of time left in this match.

The Sky Blues got two quick goals in the first half and wrestled control from the Canaries for a spell.

You could say Norwich were a little fortunate to maintain possession on the edge of the box just before the ball was fed to Kieran Dowell. It looks like the ball was slightly deflected and crept its way into the penalty area.

But credit to Dowell who was surrounded by blue shirts, he still had a lot of work to do, and made sure he didn't waste the opportunity.

His third goal in two games.

It's been one-way traffic for me so far in the second half and Norwich deserve that goal.

Kieran Dowell had a lot to do but it was a great finish. The keeper had no chance.
