Kieran Trippier gets to the byline and dinks in a cross that Miguel Almiron and Sean Longstaff throw themselves in to try and steer home. The ball takes a couple of deflections and somehow ends up in the arms of Danny Ward.

Newcastle chip in a free-kick, which Leicester fail to properly clear. The ball drops at the feet of Sean Longstaff, who this time gets his shot on target but fails to score because of a brilliant diving save from Danny Ward.

Longstaff could (and probably should) have two goals already tonight.

It has been a terrible day in Manchester weather wise, with heavy rain from early morning to mid afternoon.

Dean Holden isn't too fussed though. He is not even wearing a coat.

A jumper is enough for the Charlton boss.

He does come from nearby Swinton, so he is used to the conditions.

Twenty minutes in and Charlton will be happy with how things have gone so far. They've kept their shape and defended well to restrict Manchester United's chances.

Newcastle are opening Leicester up way too easily.

Joelinton and Joe Willock combine again down the left but the latter's cross is too deep and the attack fizzles out.

A chance for Charlton to do something here as they win a corner. The delivery is punched away by Tom Heaton, who is on the ground but gets up just in time to dive on George Dobson's strike.

Play is then stopped after a Manchester United break because Charlton's Sean Clare is down and needing treatment after he clashed with Heaton going up for that corner.

Barnes is playing really narrow because he's trying to stay close to Daka and Perez is doing the same, but that leaves space in the wide area.

Trippier is at right-back and he's walking into Leicester's half and he's under no pressure at all.

We keep talking about Newcastle being right-side dominant, that's where their goals come from, It's a real gamble from Leicester.

Joe Willock does Marc Albrighton on the right before sending a ball infield that Joelinton allows to run into the path of Bruno Guimaraes. The midfielder catches it, but sends his low shot fizzing wide.

It's just a matter of time before Newcastle take the lead here.

This is a bit better.

Former Newcastle man Ayoze Perez plants a shot on target but straight at Nick Pope, who saves.

It's backs-to-the-wall stuff from Leicester, who are so deep in their own box as Newcastle stage attack after attack.

This is unsustainable from the Foxes. They need to find a way to get a grip on the game.

Ten minutes in and the hosts are starting to control things after a positive start by the visitors.

If Leicester are going to hurt Newcastle it is likely going to be through the use of pace on the break. They send Patson Daka away down the left but he can't make anything of the territory or possession.

Charlton's fans are making plenty of noise.

They used to come to Old Trafford quite often, eight seasons out of nine from 1998 until they were relegated from the Premier League in 2007.

That was the same season as they last reached the quarter-finals of this competition, eventually losing at home to Wycombe.

Both teams have been competitive, tackles are flying in.

Charlton are buoyed by this support they've got behind them, making so much noise. United feel like they've in a game in the early stages.

Miguel Almiron wants the ball all the time. And with good reason.

He demands a pass into the box and gets it before seeing his cross cut out.

It's pretty much one-way traffic.

Alejandro Garnacho is looking very lively. He does really well to knock a high ball past the Charlton full back, twists and turns inside the area to evade challenges but then fires into the sidenetting.
