Soak it up and hit on the break seems to be the message from Aberdeen so far.

After an early pummelling, suddenly Aberdeen look like they can seriously scare Rangers here at Hampden.

Has the makings of a great semi-final, the atmosphere here is crackling with the noise surging and rolling around these stands as the action ebbs and flows from end to end. Just how we like it!

  5. Postpublished at 20mins

    Rangers 0-0 Aberdeen

Fashion Sakala is the man bringing Rangers to life once more.

The Zambia striker drops the shoulder, cuts inside his marker and fires a left-foot drive just over from 16 yards.

  6. Postpublished at 18mins

    Rangers 0-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen are rampant now and the ball is bobbling about inside the Rangers penalty box.

It bounces off the hand of Dons centre-half Anthony Stewart and forward team-mate Duk has a swipe at it from close range following a corner.

  7. Give Dons confidencepublished at 15:20 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

The flag is up, but what a finish. It's good movement and a great finish.

Nonetheless, that'll give Miovski a bit of confidence if he's not been hitting the back of the net because it's such an acute angle. He's fired it high and handsome past Allan McGregor.

It just shows that Aberdeen have options to hurt Rangers.

  8. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 15mins

    Rangers 0-0 Aberdeen

A superb ball behind the Rangers defence from Leighton Clarkson and Bojan Miovski is off one one one with Allan McGregor.

The striker finds the roof of the net with a flashing drive from an acute angle past the Rangers goalkeeper, but the flag is up and confirmed by VAR.

  10. Postpublished at 10mins

    Rangers 0-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen are into the Rangers penalty box for the first time as Duk tries a bit of fancy footwork, but the combination of James Tavernier and Connor Goldson manage to thwart the Portuguese forward.

  12. Should be 1-0published at 15:10 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    Rangers 0-0 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen defender on BBC Sportsound

It's one of Aberdeen's deficiencies - we've spoken about it all season - the fact that at times they don't defend properly.

Jim Goodwin can breathe a sigh of relief, but that should be 1-0 to Rangers from Sakala. They're very, very lucky. Normally, that ends up in the back of the net. It's a free header.

Deficiencies from Aberdeen all over the place.

What I've noticed right away is the surface. It's very treacherous, especially for defenders. That might prove the excitement for everybody in this ground today

  14. Postpublished at 5mins

    Rangers 0-0 Aberdeen

Ryan Kent is next to try his luck, but the Rangers winger's low shot trundles across the face of goal and wide of the post Fashion Sakala struck moments ago.

  15. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 3mins

    Rangers 0-0 Aberdeen

Rangers win the first corner on what looks already like a treacherous surface and it's off the outside of a post.

Fashion Sakala rises following a Borna Barisic corner and it is so close to the opening goal for the in-form forward.

  16. KICK-OFFpublished at 15:02 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    Rangers 0-0 Aberdeen

A blast of Nick Walsh's whistle and we are under way at a Hampden shrouded in smoke from the pyrotechnics.

Will it be a 16th Old Firm final, or will Aberdeen face Celtic in the showpiece occasion for a fifth time?

  19. 4-2 to Dons against Rangerspublished at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    Rangers v Aberdeen (15:00)

Somewhat surprisingly considering Rangers have lifted the trophy a record number of times, Aberdeen have won four of the six League Cup semi-finals they have contested together.

The Dons have won four of those six meetings with Rangers - in 1955, 1976, 1995 and 2018 - but lost in 1966 and 1990.

    Rangers v Aberdeen (15:00)

Aberdeen beat Rangers the last time they met in a League Cup semi-final - in October 2018.

Lewis Ferguson, the Scotland midfielder who moved to Bologna last summer, scored the only goal.

The Dons went on to lose the final by the same scoreline to Celtic.
