That's all from us this evening. Job done for Rangers, and what might have been for Aberdeen.

We'll be back on Wednesday evening with four Scottish Premiership fixtures for your viewing pleasure - see you then!

  2. Stewart tackle 'makes life difficult for his teammates'published at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen (aet)

Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin has also been giving his thoughts to BBC Sportsound:

"We're extremely disappointed to have been knocked out of the Cup at this late stage," he said. "I thought Rangers started well, put us on the back foot. Once the game settled down, we grew into it and it was very even.

"There's a sense of pride on my part with the effort that the players gave. We tried to congest the middle of the pitch and the effort and commitment that the players showed for 120 minutes was quite incredible.

"We have no arguments about the red card. As soon as the tackle was made, I thought he was off. It's a disappointment for the big man because he could have been doing without that. Playing Rangers 11 v 11 is hard enough. Credit to the 10 players who stayed on, they didn't throw the towel in.

"I always try to defend my players as much as I can, but what can you say? It was a poor decision from Anthony, he could have stayed on his feet. A rush of blood to the head and makes life very difficult for his teammates."

  3. Gutsy Rangers need more qualitypublished at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

There's guts in this Rangers team, they need to improve quality. They came from behind to win against Hibs at Ibrox, to win at Pittodrie, another here. There's character here. If it was Giovanni van Bronckhorst you'd be questioning that. Beale has made a good start to his time as Rangers manager.

Your heart goes out to Aberdeen. They gave an awful lot and even at the end, physically, they must have been in a desperate order and still created a chance or two. Rangers were never able to settle and that's credit to Aberdeen and the spirit they showed. Will that come as much comfort to Jim Goodwin? Possibly not.

  4. Rangers need 'to stop being so anxious'published at 18:24 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen (aet)

"I'm really happy to be back here and have the responsibility," Michael Beale continued on BBC Sportsound.

"I'm happy to be back working with these players but I want them to stop being so anxious at moments in the game. In the last five or six weeks we've come from behind numerous times, we've shown that if we stick to our style of play we'll create chances and score goals.

"We're showing we're a good team, so why the moments of anxiety? That's what we need to work on. They've crept in in the few months where maybe in the CL and domestically, we've took a couple of defeats that we weren't expecting. Maybe we've not had the consistency in selection previously.

"I said to them in there, we were 1-0 down but we were always the better team, in my opinion. Why the moments of anxiety? Keep playing, keep believing and the chances and goals will come. Even in the last five minutes, the anxiety comes back in. It's something we need to talk about.

When asked about potential incomings, the Rangers manager added: "There's loads of work behinds the scenes. We're looking to bring in two or three players this month as a minimum, in terms of helping the starting eleven. These things never go as quick as what I want but we're all working in the right direction. I'm hopeful that three players will be in this team by the end of the window. It's very much needed."

  5. VAR issue explainedpublished at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen (aet)

Referring to the period in the second half where VAR appeared to drop out, a spokesperson for the SPFL has said:

“The Scottish FA have confirmed to us that a technical issue with the VAR station at Clydesdale House resulted in a five-minute period where VAR was not in operation at Hampden Park. The issue was resolved by moving to the back-up station and VAR was operational immediately thereafter.”

  6. 'It's a bit of retribution'published at 18:18 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen (aet)

Rangers manager Michael Beale tells BBC Sportsound: "It feels great. Obviously at half-time, you're having to have a conversation at 1-0 down, which I thought was unjust. It was a good first half and we were the team in the ascendancy with big moments, but our last pass let us down.

"Fair credit to Aberdeen, I thought they were excellent today. I thought two teams went toe-to-toe and we've come out victorious. I've had bad days here where we've played well and today I thought we were reasonable and we were through.

"I love Scott Wright when he's direct. I don't like it when he picks and chooses his moments. I spoke to him about it through the week and he's rewarded the team and the fans handsomely this afternoon. It was a fantastic run.

"It was so good to see Kemar [Roofe] scoring on the big stage, he's a big player for us. Hopefully it's nothing too serious but it looked a sore one. It's not a dislocation we don't believe. He can't catch a break, the poor sod. Neither can Antonio [Colak].

"We have three number nines, and we have a nine and a half in Fashion [Sakala]. When they're all available we're a really potent team.

"For myself, it's a bit of retribution for the one I lost previously against Aberdeen."

  8. Aberdeen 'stood up to Rangers'published at 18:14 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen (aet)

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin tells Viaplay: "I thought it was a really good game. Evenly balanced at times.

"In terms of chances created, we both had an equal number of opportunities. I can't fault the players.

"We knew how tough the game was going to be. We stood up to them and posed Rangers one or two concerns at times."

On the Anthony Stewart red card, Goodwin said: "I felt he was off the pitch. There was no argument."

  9. Rangers need more from Morelospublished at 18:11 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

I know Morelos has got an assist to his name, but not a great showing again for me.

It's a real shame for Kemar Roofe. What an injury list that was building up for Rangers and now for him. He's had a real torrid time, he gets the elation of scoring and then the heartache of what looks like a nasty injury on that shoulder.

He could be missing now and that problem has arisen again, Beale has got to get a tune out of Morelos. I didn't see a reaction to the Stewart comments. You need more from him, you can't rely on him.

  10. 'Delighted' Beale gives Roofe updatepublished at 18:08 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen (aet)

Rangers manager Michael Beale on Viaplay: "Overall, we were the more dominant team. Fair play to Aberdeen. It's the best Aberdeen team I've seen in a while.

"I'm delighted to win. Overall, I thought we played a lot of good stuff.

"It's a group that's had some tough moments this season and now they've got to a final. We've managed to turn results around. It would've been unjust if we hadn't won the game."

On the Kemar Roofe shoulder injury, Beale said: "We won't know until he has a scan tomorrow. It's not a dislocation, it's just a heavy landing."

  11. 'Word of praise for Aberdeen'published at 18:04 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen defender on BBC Sportsound

Over the piece, Rangers probably deserve to get to the final. They were the better team, created the better opportunities and took two of them. A big word of praise to Aberdeen - their never-say-die attitude even when the skipper gets sent off.

They did amazingly well on a heavy pitch that must have taken its toll physically. They still managed to get themselves up the pitch and the Scales volley towards the end was incredible.

I'm sure Jim Goodwin will praise his players and they deserve it. They put up a very good showing and it was reflected in the fans attitude at the end of the game, as they stayed to applaud the players. It just wasn't good enough.

  13. It's going to be tough - Jackpublished at 18:00 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack scored the equalising goal and has been named player of the match.

"It was an entertaining game," he tells Viaplay. "Thankfully, we got over the line and it gets this club into another final.

"Aberdeen always make it difficult for us. They're a good side and thankfully we came out on top - I'm sure the fans enjoyed it.

"If you're going to win the cup competitions, you've got to beat the best teams. We know it's going to be a tough challenge - we look forward to it."

    FT: Rangers 2-1 Aberdeen

    Neil McCann
Former Rangers winger on BBC Sportsound

The two sets of players should be commended for absolutely emptying themselves. Horrible pitch, really heavy, difficult to play football on and difficult to keep motoring.

It was probably that fatigue that allowed Scott Wright to burn away from Kennedy and provide the assist for the winning goal.

Two really good semi-finals over the two days.
