Two players have just signalled to the bench that Brandt will need to go off.

That's a big blow because he is a proper player and in really good form too.

Chelsea 0-0 Borussia Dortmund (agg 0-1)

Not the start Dortmund wanted. Julian Brandt, who is one of their most important attacking players, is down injured and is getting strapping on his upper leg.

  3. 'Sterling lost his way'published at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2023

    What a break from Chelsea.

As Sterling broke into the smoke he seemed to lose his way.

He just waited too long and lost the chance.

There are few top-quality forwards you'd be less confident in scoring a one-on-one than Raheem Sterling.

End to end. Dortmund don't make anything of their corner and Chelsea counter.

Raheem Sterling takes far too long to decide what to do with the ball and eventually loses it - but it turns out he was offside anyway.

On paper we should win this but we're playing on grass so who knows. Quick GOAL is a must.

Oh crikey! A mess at the back from Club Bruges with Kamal Sowah almost prodding into his own net before Simon Mignolet dives on the ball just in time.

They can't afford to be that sloppy.

Borussia Dortmund are one of only three teams in Europe's top five leagues yet to lose a league game in 2023.

The others are French side Reims, managed by Englishman Will Still, and... Brentford.

Dortmund have won their last 10 games in all competitions, every game since the World Cup.

  14. 'Potter keeps switching system'published at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2023

Potter has had enough time to assess the squad but he's got so many players to pick from that he keeps tweaking with his system.

It's hard enough to come in and get your ideas across but with the riches available it seems to be a distraction. It would be easier with a smaller squad and knowing that is what you've got to work with.

Re 19:49 - 10/10 for optimism but is it naysaying to point out that Chelsea haven't scored more than once in a game since December?

It was a clear offside against Goncalo Ramos but nevertheless a warning for Club Bruges, with Benfica looking to put this tie out of sight as quickly as possible.

Graham Potter's side have to do something they have not managed in 2023 - and score two goals in a game (unless they want penalties).

Chelsea have only scored 26 goals in Potter's 27 games in charge.

They are 10th in the Premier League, and out of both English cups, so this is their only chance for silverware.

"We've had some games where we could have scored more than one and we need that performance on Tuesday night," said Potter.

We need players to go forward and beat players in wide areas. An early goal is needed!

    Steve, Surrey

Fofana, James, Chilwell, Fernandes, Kova, Sterling and Joao Felix. That’s a solid spine for a CL knockout match!

Benfica 0-0 Club Bruges (agg 2-0)

It isn't going to count after a VAR check because of an offside in the build up.

  20. 'Pressure on Havertz'published at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2023

Chelsea v Borussia Dortmund (20:10 GMT, 0-1 first leg)

    Mario Melchiot
Former Chelsea defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

When Havertz joined Chelsea he was playing a free role behind the striker but now he's leading the line.

He has to hit double digits if he's a striker and that's his main problem, there's a lot of pressure on him.
