Graham Potter insists it is only half-time in Chelsea's Champions League last-16 tie with Borussia Dortmund as he plots to overturn their 1-0 defeat from the first leg three weeks ago.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for us and a great game to be involved in. It's half-time, we're 1-0 down, so we need to respond and I think these players can do that," he said.

"In terms of what we learned from the previous game, we're meeting a top opponent.

"You can see their results in the Bundesliga. They're in a fantastic vein of form. Winning games constantly, 10 in a row.

"It's a good challenge for us, but we're excited for it and we're looking forward to it.

"The position we're in, we should always welcome the pressure. Because it means you're in a fantastic situation, which is to compete for the last eight of the Champions League.

"It'll be a special night. It was a special occasion in Dortmund and I'm sure it will be the same at Stamford Bridge."

It has been well documented how Graham Potter has fared since he took over and how much money he spent but he will be totally focused.

He's not shying away from how big of a game this is for Chelsea. If they go out then it will be quite a dark winter.

Cucarella ? What has Chalobah done ? Early goal is needed to settle everyone down tonight. Composure in front of goal and a bit of luck will be needed !

Cucurella and Koulibaly, a better looking bench than what's on the pitch. We're doomed. This could be Liverpool v Man Utd all over again

Joao Felix says "no-one knows the future" when asked whether he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The Portugal forward has impressed since arriving on loan from Atletico Madrid in January but also signed a contract extension to stay in Spain until 2027.

While admitting he is enjoying life at Chelsea, Felix was non-committal about what happens when his loan ends.

"I'm here to help the team, to play, to score and to win trophies," he said. "I'm just focused on Tuesday's game.

"I'm happy here. The club is so big and everyone is so good. I think I needed it [the loan deal] and when I came here it was good for Atletico and for me. It was the perfect deal."

Traffic problems meant Dortmund's coach was late arriving by the way. It wasn't like they forget there was a game on and had to rush to the ground.

On Graham Potter taking off Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix for defensive midfielders in Saturday's win over Leeds

The bigger picture was that if Graham Potter's side was to concede in those last 10 minutes, I think the noise would have been so great it may have even been irrelevant what happened against Borussia Dortmund.

Imagine what that ground would have been like if it had finished 1-1 after those changes? It was a massive call from the manager, but in the wake of a win you have got to say well done.

That was such bravery and now they go into the Borussia Dortmund game with a bit of spring in their step, with a bit of confidence to overturn it.

The last time Benfica exited the Champions League at the last-16 stage was when they had won the first leg, so know as well as anyone nothing is decided yet.

That came in the 2016-17 season when they beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 before losing 4-0 in the return leg.

Different first leg score, different team, but still they won't be taking anything for granted just yet.

At the age of 30, Benfica midfielder Joao Mario is enjoying his most prolific season.

He has scored 20 goals so far this season, 13 more than his previous best ever tally.

He might not quite be going all in on challenges tonight, though, because if he picks up a yellow card he will miss the quarter-final.

Last season, Benfica were beaten by Liverpool in the last eight of the Champions League, ending their hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the competition for the first time.

But for now, Benfica coach Roger Schmidt is focussing solely on tonight's game, even if the tie may appear to be over.

"The situation is pretty clear," he said. "We won in Bruges and if they want to qualify for the quarter-finals then at some point they will have to attack. Whether they do it from the beginning or not we will have to see.

"We just have to focus on ourselves."

Potter didn't hide the fact that he liked the balance of the team against Leeds so I'm not surprised he's stayed with a back three.

On paper, it looks quite an exciting team with James and Chilwell down the sides that will give Sterling and Felix licence to roam.

It's just about putting the ball in the net, they need to do it twice or they are out.

Jude Bellingham has just been out to have a look at the Stamford Bridge surface befoe Borussia Dortmund's Champions League tie at Chelsea.

A group of Chelsea fans were attempting to attract his attention - rather like most of Europe's elite clubs - as he made his way back down the tunnel.

It was all very good natured and probably a sales pitch. Bellingham responded with a broad grin.

    Will Faulks, Chelsea News, external

Graham Potter has been in a difficult situation, game after game, with his team's results at rock bottom. When Chelsea lose, he wants to explain the defeat without making excuses. It leaves him torn between mentioning external factors like injuries, while also repeating that they're no excuse for the dreadful results.

So it was interesting to see the situation reversed on Saturday. After his team managed to win just their second game of 2023 with an ugly 1-0 victory against Leeds, he was hardly going to be gloating - and indeed instead he chose to note that his side needed a lot more attacking fluency and coherence.

But it's not just that, Graham - the defending and the pressing is shambolic too. That's why the excuses he likes to point to just don't ring true.

We can all agree that the injuries, the new signings and the lack of pre-season have made things far more difficult for him, but a good coach should only need days or maybe weeks to get a semblance of some shape in his team.

In fact, the very best coaches build systems that new players can pick up quickly, because injuries and new signings are part of the game.

Chelsea's goal struggles are best evidenced by the fact their top scorers this season have six goals in all competitions - Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz.

"Raheem's goalscoring record in the Champions League speaks for itself," said boss Graham Potter.

"He's a proven campaigner in that competition. We're delighted with that, we're looking forward to having him on the pitch on Tuesday, hopefully enjoying his football."
