  2. Stewart 'could not cope'published at 23:19 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

Dave: Was a stupid decision from Goodwin to make Stewart captain. Should have gone with someone who had been there a while. Don't think it helped him being in that position with that much pressure. The right decision for him to leave this window.

Paul: I'm not an AFC fan but I think it was obvious the guy just could not cope defensively with the pace of the Scottish game. I genuinely think Aberdeen will improve now he's gone. He was a liability.

Thomas: Imagine your captain going on loan! Amateur hour.

    Alibongo: Not before time.

Richard: Stewart should have taken Scales with him!

It's fair to say plenty of you have been getting in touch.

  3. No chance of Shankland to Rangers - Savagepublished at 23:13 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

A potential move to Ibrox for Lawrence Shankland was put to Hearts sporting director Joe Savage on Sportsound. It's fair to say he didn't mince his words in response.

"They wouldn't be able to afford him, I can tell you that right now," he said. "Not a chance. No price, not for sale.

"Shankland's not going anywhere, he's going to get 30 odd goals for us this season and become an absolute Hearts legend. That's the plan.

"Nobody came to us with any sort of offer. We'd have passed on the message that they were wasting their time. We want him to fire us to win the Scottish Cup and finish third."

  7. 'Paterson bid rejected today' - Savagepublished at 22:58 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

Hearts Sporting Director Joe Savage tells BBC Sportsound: "We tried to get one more in. I think it's been well documented we had an interest in Callum Paterson. We made another offer today to get him and Sheffield Wednesday rejected it. They didn't want to sell him, so you respect their decision and move on.

"I think we would try [to sign Paterson in the summer] but let's not kid ourselves, Sheffield Wednesday are a massive club and they're doing really well. If he helps them get promoted, you never know. We'll obviously have that interest in him, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.

"It would have been great for the fans. You don't want to sign players just to appease the fans. You want to show them you've got the quality of the squad to really kick on, but I think it would have been a double winner for us."

  11. Martindale on transfer negotiationspublished at 22:42 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

Livingston manager David Martindale has been giving BBC Sportsound an insight into how transfer negotiations unfold at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

"I don't really use the top six claim too much," he said. "The boys come up and see the likes of Lyndon Dykes moving on.

"It's more for the exposure than me selling that we're going to get in the top six. They're playing against the Old Firm. They're on the tele.

"The recruitment side is difficult. You've got to put a lot of time into it - especially the finances. I'll look at 10 or 15 players and we'll lost out on five or six of them because we can't compete with other teams financially.

"Most conversations start off by saying it's not about money. By the end of day two [of negotiations], it's always about money."

  12. County get 'deserved point' - Mackaypublished at 22:35 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

Ross County manager Malky Mackay tells Sportsound: "They did check it [the Ross County equaliser].

"When you look at it again, nobody actually makes a connection. David Marshall actually said to me coming off the park, 'I gave you a goal tonight'.

"Tricky night. Very windy night. We make a howler of a mistake for the Hibs goal.

"Both teams probably deserved the point tonight, overall.

"I know it's going to be hard for every one us. There's not a lot between six, seven teams in this division. We'll all have to be at it every week."

  16. 'Good to play for someone I know trusts me'published at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

Tony Watt is relishing the prospect of regular starts after his loan move from Dundee United to link up with his old boss Stephen Robinson at St Mirren.

"I've not been playing games the last four months, so it's good to get out and play for someone that I know trusts me and that I know really well," Watt said to Sky Sports.

"I had a good opportunity to go abroad and a couple to stay here, but when I found out the manager was interested, it was perfect for me to come here.

"It's been tough, but you've got to let managers come in and pick the team. I wasn't the flavour of the month and that's life. I've got someone that will play me every week and that's what I'm looking for.

"I'm excited to push towards the European spots. I don't want to be down the bottom of the table, but I don't fancy Dundee United to be down there at the end of the season."

  19. Johnson 'fed up' with VAR - Johnsonpublished at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

    Ross County 1-1 Hibernian

Hibernian manager Lee Johnson has been giving his reaction to his side's 1-1 draw against Ross County.

"I thought we were the better side in the first half. They felt they had to almost clear it from the midfield because of the wind gusting in their face.

"Good first goal in terms of our pressure, forced an error. A really good fginish.

"I was disappointed. I was disappointed with VAR again. I'm fed up with it because it's a foul on David Marshall (at the Yan Dhanda goal).

"The wind's howling in, 35-40 mile an hour wins and there's two players that absolutely career into him. Again we've been let down by VAR, it's not the first time.

"Kevin Nisbet felt a pinch on his hamstring. We won't know this early, have to settle for two or three days. But, obviously, it'd be a big blow for us.

"(New signing Matthew Hoppe) is important now in terms of depending on how long Nisbet's going to be out. We need those attacking options."

  20. Aberdeen captain Stewart heads for exitpublished at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

STV's Chris Harvey is reporting Anthony Stewart is heading out of Aberdeen.

Considering he only joined in the summer and was made captain by Jim Goodwin, it has been a rapid turnaround in fortunes for the centre-back.

It has just not worked out at Pittodrie. He would join Scott Brown as the second successive Dons captain to leave midway through a season.
