I am starting to think that Southampton could play this match for days and not be able to score - it’s not that West Ham have been brilliant, it’s just that Southampton have looked terrified to take a risk

  2. Hammers 'inviting pressure'published at 15:44 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

You can just see as the minutes and seconds tick by, West Ham are just starting to slip back and defend what they've got, which is inviting pressure.

I'm not sure the fans are so happy.

And now a big miss from West Ham!

The corner is flicked on and reaches Lucas Paqueta at the back post. He is in all the space he needs but, after twisting, can only fire his shot over the bar from a few yards out.

It is still there for Saints.

Gavin Bazunu has to react quick to tip over a sliced attempted clearance from his own defender, Duje Caleta-Carr, to Jarrod Bowen's low cross.

Oof. West Ham come forward and Emerson is fed in down the left. He smashes a low cross that hits a Saints defender and invites a goalscoring touch before Gavin Bazunu drops on it.

Saints, if can't beat the teams around you, you deserve to go down. Toothless in attack and should have tried to win this from the start with a positive team selection.

Whatever the result today, David Moyes should be on his way out. The players that West Ham have should be dominating this game, but it’s like a League One game. The Hammers winning will be a plus, but the quality of football isn’t what it should be

    Anon

As a West Ham fan I think we should have sacked Moyes in November. He’s responsible for this garbage!

Selles must be a Rugby fan and keen to make 'impact' subs...this is football and they all should be starting!

As a West Ham fan, I actually feel sorry for the people who have paid the extortionate Sky Sports fee to watch this cobblers. At least you can switch over though. I'm stuck here. Abysmal stuff.

Aguerd has been absolutely outstanding today.

He's been a constant threat in both boxes.

Bowen is starting to get shots on target now too, it's heating up.

  17. Ward-Prowse ineffective so farpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    Simon Stone

West Ham have been very good at not giving James Ward-Prowse any opportunity to shoot within striking range.

The Southampton skipper is yet to exert any authority on the game.

West Ham boss David Moyes has made a chance in that central midfield area. It will be interesting to see if Flynn Downes can negate Ward-Prowse in the same way Tomas Soucek did.
