With a lot of respect to Dalot, ETH should have at least put Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the bench should the case be that Dalot cannot handle Saint-Maximin

    Anon

I am worried that Dalot, has been saddled with the responsibility of stopping Saint-Maximin. No chance.

  2. Sutton's predictionpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

Newcastle v Man Utd (16:30 BST)

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

I've been wrong about Manchester United a few times this season but I don't think their form has been that great recently, whatever their results have been like.

They were very fortunate to recover to beat Fulham in the FA Cup last time out, and that was not the only time recently where they got away with it a bit - they have not been at their best for a while.

It would still not surprise me at all if Erik ten Hag's side went to St James' Park and won but this is an enormous game in the fight for the top four and I am expecting Newcastle United to rise to the occasion.

I like the way the Magpies play and, although they have not always turned that into goals, they've had more of a cutting edge since Alexander Isak returned to full fitness. I have a feeling the Sweden striker will make the difference again here.

    Tommy's prediction: 1-2

This will be close but I am going with Manchester United.

Absolutely embarrassing performance from Saints. 89th minute, 1-0 down to a fellow relegation rival and we're passing the ball around the back?! Zero passion, zero urgency all afternoon. We deserve to get the boot down to the Championship. The least we ask for from the players is fight and we got none of that today

  4. 'We have had to move on quickly' - Howe on cup final defeatpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

Newcastle v Man Utd (16:30 BST)

Eddie Howe is not treating Newcastle's match against Manchester United as the opportunity for revenge in the Carabao Cup final but admits the occasion affected their league form.

The Red Devils clinched the season's first silverware with victory over the Magpies at Wembley in February, coinciding with a dip in form for Howe's side.

"We have had to move on very quickly," he said. "I don't think you ever fully get over a defeat but it's history so you tend not to dwell on it.

"The lads have recovered really well. I think the final was a distraction to our league form and you never know how a defeat can affect mentality.

"But the past two results [wins against Wolves and Nottingham Forest] have put us back on track."

Quickfire goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford settled the final and Howe said his players have learned from what happened.

"In that game, we conceded from a set-play and that was hugely frustrating because it swung the momentum their way," he said. "We did a couple of things wrong and got punished.

"I thought we were probably the superior team at that point but that made it difficult."

Asked about classic encounters between the two teams in the Premier League, Howe agreed the fixture had a rich history.

"I remember games with lots at stake and I always remember goals," he said. "Would love that to be the case and to be for us at the weekend."

  5. St James' Fortresspublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

Newcastle v Man Utd (16:30 BST)

Newcastle have turned St James' Park into a fortress this season. Only Liverpool have got the better of Eddie Howe's side on their own turf this campaign, and that was in part thanks to a red card for Nick Pope.

Interestingly, only three sides have conceded more away from home than the 27 of Manchester United this season - Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Leicester.

With Man Utd battling on numerous fronts, this is the first of nine fixtures for them in April. It's gonna be a tough old slog!

Wondering how many Leicester fans and West Ham fans would be happy with a manager swap - I'd take Moyes for the rest of the season and Brendan is free now too

  7. You again!published at 16:05 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

Newcastle v Man Utd (16:30 BST)

The Carabao Cup finalists lock horns again.

Man Utd prevailed at Wembley back in February to claim the first major piece of domestic silverware of the season. Newcastle will be looking to avenge that painful loss today.

Only two places and three points separate the two sides as it stands, with Champions League qualification the chief aim...

Important 3 points. I would still sack Moyes today and appoint Rodgers before another team take him. He would be good for West Ham

  9. 'Southampton will be very disappointed'published at 16:00 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    FT: West Ham 1-0 Southampton

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a massive three points, West Ham didn't play well in this very anxious stadium but they got the goal and held on to it.

They got the job done but they aren't the West Ham we're used too with the players they have. But they got those important three points and it's a little bit of a weight lifted for them.

Southampton will be very disappointed leaving here with nothing.

But there will be positives to take from their performance when the emotion has gone out of it.

Well this is absolutely abysmal. Anyone would think that these teams want to play in the Championship! I feel cheated watching it on TV let alone actually being there. If this is the best a relegation match in the Premier League can produce then I'm taking a dim view.

Moyes has done a great job for us but it’s time for a change. Despite recent difficulties at Leicester I think Rodgers would be a great fit to replace him

    Anon

West Ham sit so deep and are so passive. Moyes has to take the blame for such a spineless show. Regardless of the result today he should be on his way. I'd rather have Rodgers. He's free now!

Unlucky for Southampton. A big let off for West Ham.

  19. Do Saints have a goal in them?published at 15:46 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the London Stadium

As Antonio Conte can testify, Southampton are capable of a late equaliser.

It doesn't look likely here though.

They just haven't passed the ball with any conviction.

Apart from those two saves from Lucasz Fabianski in the middle of the second half, they have created nothing.

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

That's a poor pass from Carlos Alcaraz. He has Kyle Walker-Peters to his right with Saints on the attack, but instead of making sure it reaches him he tries to anticipate a run that doesn't come and sends the ball inside a defender and straight out of play.
