  1. KICK-OFFpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

It is advantage West Ham in the battle at the bottom.

What have Saints got in them to try and change that?

The second half is under way.

  2. 'It's been a long time coming'published at 15:05 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    John Murray
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

It feels like Rodgers being sacked has been a long time coming. There's been difficulties all the way through this season, whether it be injuries or financial.

Rodgers said the money side was a real problem and results haven't been what they wanted either.

When time passes by, fans will remember him so fondly for winning the FA Cup for the only time in the club's history.

Sarah: Yet again a manager pays the price for players' underperformance. Brendan Rodgers is a great manager with an overall great track record. If the Spurs or Chelsea boards have any sense they'll be offering him a job - and I say that as an Arsenal fan!

Bob: Curious decision by Leicester, their relegation odds just got a lot shorter

Foxes chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: "The achievements of the team under Brendan’s management speak for themselves – we’ve experienced some of our finest footballing moments under his guidance and will always be grateful to him and his staff for the heights they helped us to reach on the pitch.

"However, performances and results during the current season have been below our shared expectations. Regrettably, the desired improvement has not been forthcoming and, with 10 games of the season remaining, the board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status.

“The task ahead of us in our final 10 games is clear. We now need to come together – fans, players and staff – and show the poise, quality and fight to secure our position as a Premier League club."

  6. Rodgers leaves Leicesterpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

Right then, there was some breaking news from Leicester during that half. The 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace, coming from an injury-time goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta, has done for Brendan Rodgers.

A smart move from the Foxes to save their season? Or daft at this stage with so few candidates to replace him?

I guess the theory is that any 'new manager bounce' would be invaluable.

  7. 'The mood lifted'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

In all fairness Southampton started this game much better, they completely controlled and dictated the run of play.

But as soon as West Ham scored, the mood lifted and they looked to extend their win.

Southampton just couldn't quite work anything to challenge Fabianski.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+4 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

It has been very low on quality, but at this stage of the season, with the predicament these two are in, points are all that matter.

As it stands, West Ham are picking up a precious three.

  9. West Ham need a secondpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the London Stadium

West Ham have been the more dangerous side but a couple of chances to extend their lead have come and gone.

Jarrod Bowen was so close with that one and Said Benrahma was not far away earlier either.

The home side need a second to give themselves some breathing space.

  10. 'Very close'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

That was a brilliant effort from Bowen, so very close to scoring!

  11. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 45+3 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

West Ham come so close to making it 2-0!

Jarrod Bowen cuts in from the left and on to his right foot before curling an effort that beats Gavin Bazunu and hits flush against the crossbar.

  12. Postpublished at 45+1 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

There will be three added minutes. Seems a bit short that after the wait for the VAR decision.

  13. 'Lucky to still be on the pitch'published at 14:44 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Ridiculous challenge! He was never getting to the ball.

He was so far out of position. He's lucky to still be on the pitch!

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 44 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

This is much better from Southampton.

Mohamed Elyounoussi darts away down the left and betas two men before firing over a cross that forces Lukasz Fabianski to dive from his goal to push away.

After blocking a follow-up, West Ham break and Duje Caleta-Car picks up a booking for flying through Jarrod Bowen.

  15. Postpublished at 42 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

Southampton are having to dig in, in the closing stages of this half. West Ham want to put clear daylight between them.

  16. Postpublished at 40 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

Saints were looking solid and pretty tidy prior to the goal. Going behind has affected them, though. Too many passes are going astray.

VAR can’t win with some people. They check thoroughly and people complain about the time taken, they rush through and potentially miss something then they get slaughtered for that too

Only one team in this right now.

Thilo Kehrer sets up Said Benrahma on the edge of the box but he fires his shot over the bar.

  19. Saints 'haven't got any physicality'published at 14:37 British Summer Time 2 April 2023

    West Ham 1-0 Southampton

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

All of a sudden West Ham are playing.

Southampton have got to gather because they can't concede another and they don't deserve too. They've worked it well down the right-hand side but when they get into the box, they haven't really got any physicality in there.

What can Selles do to change that?
