That was well worked by Southampton.

Walker-Peters fumbled it though and then the chance slipped away.

There are the groans of frustration. It was always likely if the opening went this way.

Another Saints opening down the right. Theo Walcott again sends it into the keeper's arms. The locals are unhappy.

Almost. Southampton look to pick open West Ham. They have the ball on the edge of the box and feed it wide for Kyle Walker-Peters but his heavy touch invites a tackle from Said Benrahma and West Ham clear.

It's very low octane stuff at the moment.

West Ham try to change that but a low ball into the middle from the left is easy for Southampton to clear.

Theo Walcott is released down the right in a Saints attack. There are men darting in the middle but he can't wrap his boot around the cross enough and it is an easy gather for Lukasz Fabianski.

Well, that fast West Ham start hasn't yet materialised. Southampton will be pretty pleased at the way they've negotiated this opening.

I can't help but feel Ings, the former Southampton player, will have a big say on today's game.

He's not started too well but he's known for scoring plenty at this level, so West Ham will hope to find him this afternoon.

A few meaty challenges leads to a rise in volume in the ground. Get into 'em!

Southampton are in no rush on the ball. They want to slow this down to a crawl.

A little glimpse of an opening for West Ham as Jarrod Bowen comes forward, but his pass inside is behind a team-mate and it allows Duje Caleta-Carr to step in and carry the ball away.

Soon after, in another attack, a Hammers cross from the left swings harmlessly out of play.

Whoever can settle the nerves and make the least mistakes will be the ones who walk out victorious.

I don't think either side will want a draw because both managers are desperate for the three points.

As for Saints, it is all about staying disciplined in these early stages. Frustrate the Hammers and turn the crowd if they can.

West Ham will be desperate for a fast start here. Nobody at the club expected they'd be battling at this end of the table at this stage of the season. They need to make the home games count.

The London Stadium has just had a minute's applause for Jacqueline Gold.

She was the daughter of David, West Ham's co-chairman, who sadly died in January.

His daughter passed away on 16 March.
