Lovely turn on the right by Kamaldeen Sulemana to get past his marker. He surges towards the box but rushes his cross and it is behind his team-mate inside the area.

Manchester City had 80% possession in the first 15 minutes of the game but it has been much more even since then.

The Saints are doubling up on Jack Grealish and he is having less influence having started the game looking dangerous.

Romeo Lavia is surrounded by five Manchester City players but does really well to get out of trouble and ensure Southampton retain possession. The Saints are playing with confidence now.

Southampton have upped the tempo and forced Manchester City into a bit of a switch as John Stones has moved into a more orthodox right-back position with De Bruyne going alongside Rodri.

Manchester City are suddenly not finding those gaps that were there in the first 15 minutes of the game and they are struggling now to dominate.

There's a pause in play as Jack Grealish is down injured after a crunching clash with Jan Bednarek.

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi, speaking to MOTD: "We are very disappointed, very frustrated with the result. We have to be proud of this performance. We are not to forget we are Brighton. We deserved to win the game. We improved because we show our quality and our style of play.

On the VAR decisions that went against his team: "I don't want to put more pressure on the referees. I don't like to discuss them. There were a lot of situations very clear. You can take your opinion about this. My work is to give my players a clear idea of play."

On his arguments with Spurs interim boss Cristian Stellini: "I am used to always respecting everyone and I want the same to me."

How many big chances will Southampton get like that. He [Sulemane] still has a lot to do, but he still need to gets the strike away and work the goalkeeper.

A bit closer now for Southampton as Carlos Alcaraz glances a header just wide.

The Saints are growing into the game.

Southampton are a bit encouraged by that unexpected chance and the ball is played down the flank for Kamaldeen Sulemana to chase but Rúben Dias gets across to make a great tackle to prevent that becoming something more dangerous.

Brentford

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I feel for the players. They gave everything. What an effort. We asked them to be aggressive, to win second balls and to take care of the ball. In the first half, wow! Totally on top. Could easily have been 3-0. Missed penalty and narrow offside. What an opportunity from the Manchester City mistake. Real let off for City.

Oooh a mistake from the Manchester City corner as it is played short and gifted to Kamaldeen Sulemana.

He charges away with only Nathan Ake back to try and prevent his run on goal. Sulemana gets into the box but an awful touch takes the ball too close to a relieved Ederson.

What a chance for Southampton.

Kevin de Bruyne's cross is deflected behind and Manchester City have another corner. This one is played into the box by De Bruyne but it is punched away before Ilkay Gündogan's volley is deflected behind.
