  1. 'I cost us, but it wasn't make or break'published at 17:25 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Leicester 1-0 Bournemouth

    Leicester City

Leicester City's James Maddison, talking to Sky Sports: "It was a really tough one to take. I am very low at the moment. We knew it was a big game and didn’t try and dress it up as anything else. We’ve worked really hard. I made a sloppy mistake and it cost us. I am very low.

"I’m always hungry to do well for the team. I tried to erase it and not do too much to make up for it. It wasn’t to be today. It is a sore one.

"I am very low and sad in defeat because my mistake sort of cost the team. We have to dust ourselves down and go again. I’ll be sad tonight and probably tomorrow but we’ll get going again on Monday. It is so important we stay positive. We’ll try and rally the troops. I apologise to the fans for today, I thought they were brilliant. It is not brilliant for us in terms of results and performances aren’t quite there at the moment but it is important the fans stick with us.

"There is still a long way to go. It is tight down there. I would have preferred to win today. It wasn’t a make or break. There is still plenty of points to play for."

  2. 'I want Asian players to believe'published at 17:22 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Brighton

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham striker Son Heung-min speaking to BBC Match of the Day on scoring his 100th Premier League goal: "This was something that I dreamed for. It is an amazing achievement which I wouldn't have had without my team-mates.

"Scoring 100 goals in the Premier League is a massive thing. I was really emotional because I have had tough moments in the last few weeks. My grandad passed away and it was not easy. I want to send that goal to him.

"I hope all the Asian players - especially in South Korea - look at this achievement and believe they can do it as well. It's a good thing for Asia and I take a big responsibility to be a good example to help the young guys. I want them to believe an Asian player can do amazing things in the Premier League.

"Sometimes you always expect an amazing season and it will be the same [as last year] but there can be more pressure. I'm the most frustrated guy and player but I see where I can improve. I am frustrated but I'm not the perfect player so I need to look at my weaknesses. The fans are supporting me and I need to take a big responsibility to do well for the rest of the season."

  3. 'You have to get used to winning'published at 17:17 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Wolves 1-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I thought the performance in the first half was 70% or so. It was enough for it to be an even game and there was a rocket from them out of nowhere.

"In the second half there was more energy, more chances and we got more people in the box. Maybe it was that feeling [missing on if] we could score. We have been working here for one or two days and it's about getting an understanding of that and the mindset of the team.

"There has been a lot of change and that's not an excuse but things need to improve and I think that performance summed it up. I have to get an understanding of it. When I say mindset, it's not necessarily a negative. You have to get used to winning and make it a habit. Credit to Wolves today, they were physical and stuck in for a win.

"We will work and recreate. We will get into those positions and repeat it. Maybe there's a feeling you won't score. I've been there before and as a club we need to address it.

"It's not where the club wants to be but it's the reality and we have to work through it. You have to get to a point where you can move forward. We need to lift it more than we did today."

  4. 'A painful defeat'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Bournemouth

    Leicester City

Leicester defender Wout Faes to BBC Match of the Day: "The game isn't going to decide if we stay up or go down. It is a painful defeat. We've got no other option than sticking together and showing fight.

"The first half was very bad but we came back in the second half, but we weren't able to put them under enough danger.

"The crowd stuck behind us and supported us. We need them. We're going to do our best to stay up.

"The club needs to decide about a manager. We don't know anything. I guess they are working on it.

"It is not going to be easy to stay up, but we need to stick together."

  5. Team news - Haaland starts for Man Citypublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

Southampton v Man City (17:30 BST)

    Southampton XI

A reminder of the teams as Southampton boss Ruben Selles has named four changes following his side's 1-0 loss to relegation rivals West Ham last weekend.

In come Armel Bella-Kotchap, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Carlos Alcaraz and club record signing Kamaldeen Sulemana.

Duje Caleta-Car, Romain Perraud, Stuart Armstrong and Sekou Mara all drop to the bench.

Southampton XI: Bazunu, Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Bella-Kotchap, Maitland-Niles, Alcaraz, Ward-Prowse, Lavia, Elyounoussi, Walcott, Sulemana.

Subs: McCarthy, Caleta-Car, Onuachu, Perraud, Armstrong, Mara, Djenepo, Edozie, Diallo.

    Man City XI

Pep Guardiola makes just one change to his starting 11 as Manchester City go in search of their eighth straight win in all competitions to maintain pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal.

And it's a big one, as top scorer Erling Haaland returns to the starting line-up after missing the 4-1 win over Liverpool with a groin injury.

That sees Julian Alvarez, who scored in that previous victory, start on the bench.

Man City XI: Ederson, Akanji, Dias, Ake, Stones, Rodri, Mahrez, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Grealish, Haaland.

Subs: Ortega, Walker, Phillips, Laporte, Alvarez, Silva, Gomez, Palmer, Lewis.

  6. 'City can't slip up'published at 17:11 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

Southampton v Man City (17:30 GMT)

Everyone seems to be saying this is a definite three points for Manchester City but I am sure Pep Guardiola has not forgotten what happened the last time his side went to St Mary's Stadium - in January, when they lost in the Carabao Cup.

I was there for that game, and City just did not turn up at all.

The big difference to January though, is that City know they can't slip up.

If they do, they are quite not handing Arsenal the title, but the Gunners would be in a very strong position.

Saints will be up for the scrap but City might have a point to prove after what happened here last time. I am expecting them to show their class and they should win comfortably.

    Sutton's prediction: 0-3

  7. Postpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

Southampton v Man City (17:30 GMT)

With a big game against Liverpool for Arsenal tomorrow, Manchester City have a great chance to put the pressure on the Premier League leaders as they take on bottom side Southampton in just over 20 minutes.

Pep Guardiola's side are currently eight points behind the Gunners but with a game in hand.

  8. 'We turned it around with different energy'published at 17:08 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Brentford 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, speaking to Premier League Productions: "It was a tough game. This is a tough place to come to. They have been unbeaten here for a very long time. It was a tough task and we felt that in the first half. But we turned it around with different energy. We are happy with the three points.

On the penalty he conceded: "It felt like a 50-50 situation where I tried to kick the ball and he dives into me. It all went pretty quick. I didn't see him coming."

What was said at half time? "We talked about looking forward and leaving the first half behind. We all knew it was not good enough. He made two good substitutions. Callum Wilson and Anthony Gordon gave us good energy and changed the game for us.

"It was important for the team and for me. I felt I had not come into the game yet. Callum came in good and it was unselfish of him and a good finish for me. We are all doing well and contributing. I am happy to be part of this. Every game is important. We know it will not be easy but we are in good form and we need to keep going."

  10. 'It was like Leicester didn't turn up'published at 17:04 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-1 Bournemouth

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Leicester were very poor. Lacking in belief, confidence, leadership. There's enough quality [in this squad] and first half it was like the never turned up. They never put a tackle in, no creativity. Jamie Vardy got no service whatsoever.

They came to life a bit more when they went to a 4-4-2 but didn't threaten. Bournemouth could have won by three or four.

  11. 'Typical Tottenham'published at 17:04 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Brighton

    Jermaine Beckford
Ex-Leeds, Leicester and Everton striker on Final Score

    Brighton have been really unfortunate.

They dominated possession, they had lots of opportunities, lots of shots on goal. They had two goals ruled out by VAR.

Spurs will be over the moon.

Typical Tottenham. You never know what you’re going to get.

Nottingham Forest drop into the bottom three. After the loyalty (with a warning caveat) they gave Steve Cooper this week, this is bound to lead to further questions about his future.

Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha looks close to tears in the stands.

He's got his hand over his mouth in disbelief and is looking to the sky. He knows his side have it all to do.

Will they appoint a new manager this week? They've had two defeats in a week under caretaker Adam Sadler.

"Now you're gonna believe us" rings out from the away end. The home fans are still booing.

This feels like a huge day in both sides' relegation battles but particularly Leicester's.
