It's a fair score. Liverpool have been good but not even at their best.

Tottenham are caught between systems at the moment. They are trying to press but it isn't working.

Every time Liverpool get the ball they are breaking and playing at a great tempo.

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson speaking to BBC Sport: Things are going well, competition helps, drives and motives you to not get complacent. It’s a season where I’ve been fit for long periods of time, got 15 goals and feel like I should be on more. Previous seasons obviously haven’t been good enough if 15 is my best."

Asked about not getting the hat trick: I could still be out there now trying to get it. Sometimes you know it’s not coming its one for those days."

Asked about starting on the bench: Everybody wants to be starting, I understand we had a game a few days ago, keep my legs fresh so you can’t really complain."

Asked about the reasons behind the successes: Keeping our feet on the ground, taking one game at a time. Nobody at the start of the season would have had us in this position as late as it is. There’s still a lot of work to do and we’ve got 5 games to do it in."

Asked about the Arsenal game next up: I think they’re a top team, we’ve played them already and it was a tough game at their place. The atmosphere up here makes it difficult for teams. We’ve got to create that atmosphere, give the fans something to get up for.

  4. '39 points should be enough'published at 16:48 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 4-1 Leeds

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We were excellent. We had a big effort on Thursday against Southampton, another relegation rival. A quick turnaround so I was a bit worried about today. Leeds come in fresh off the back of two days recovery and they are an intense team anyway. I asked the boys to put all that aside, no excuses in dropping our level. We set a goal in August and it was at the end of this game if we wanted it enough. The boys did and 39 points should be enough.

"We were playing well and Jeff scored two great goals. A bit disappointed with theirs. It made the game feel a bit closer than it was. We changed a few bits second half and we were the better side again.

"It has been hard work. A lot of people questioned myself and the group. We got the opportunity to prove a lot of people wrong. We still have four games to go. Who knows how many points we can put on the board."

    Another huge chance.

  7. 'We have to be proud'published at 16:47 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    FT: Fulham 1-2 Man City

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva to Match of the Day: "Disappointing result. Good work from the boys. We were competitive throughout the match. When you concede a goal against City in the first minute it creates a difficult scenario for any team. We showed the character to come back and equalise the game and start to have a bit more balance of the game.

"That was our best period of the match [after the equaliser]. We conceded a goal, we cannot lose the ball the way we did. That is the mistake that we are punished by. A great strike from Alvarez but we should've done much better before that.

"Second half we tried, we didn't create many chances too. We didn't create any, they didn't, the game was more balanced. We were competitive and tried until the last minute. We have to be proud of the boys."

On Vinicius scoring: "He needs these types of moments to boost his confidence. He's a player who's needed the support of everyone to be in the best physical condition. He's been getting some problems in his knees, I decided to start with him because we needed him in the front line. It's up to him to keep working hard and keep improving."

On Fulham's penalty shout: "I haven't seen all the images. During the match we felt that 50/50 decisions were against us again. It is what it is and can't control it."

On the injuries: "This is clearly the worst thing of the afternoon. The result, everything that's happened is not important when after the Mitrovic situation and William out as well two more key players are out with serious injuries. It looked clear Tim Ream will not play for us this season, broken his arm, and let's hope Andreas is not so serious but it looks serious. They're both in hospital and the medical staff will assess them."

Southampton manager Ruben Selles speaking to BBC Sport: “The game is 90/95 minutes, we arrived at half time in a good position in the game. But we started [the second half] slow and we knew they would come high and with pressure. We become lower and lower and they pushed us back.

“We were doing well, we had the plan to apply pressure when we can and keep the ball. When you play against a top four team its more difficult to keep it. They became more aggressive and put Isak on the side, we were too late to react to it and we let it go.

“Sometimes it is difficult. In the first half we knew what to do but in the second we didn’t find that connection and that is for all of us to work out. We need to be stronger in those moments."

Asked about his sides chances of survival: “I am going to stay here and, we didn’t have a good run but we know we can compete against anymore, there is still points to play and we are still alive and we will go to the very end."

Asked about the Nottingham Forest game next: “It is going to be a completely different game with a team in a different position. We need to sit down and see how we can go there and get the three points."

Robert: There is a train that leaves Liverpool Lime St to London at 17:25. Tottenham fans can still make it in time.

Joe: Brighton can deservedly safely start preparing for European football. Spurs may yet lose out to Aston Villa as well as Liverpool, and end up with absolutely nothing.

Nick: I'm convinced Tottenham is a social experiment to see how much fans can put up with before breaking.

  20. 'A really good and impressive performance'published at 16:41 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

FT: Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

    Manchester United

Erik Ten HagImage source, Getty Images

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I'm really happy with the points but also with the performance. Really good performance against a Villa side who did not lose in 10 games, scored in every game and we were in complete control. It could have been 3-1 or 4-1 so a really good and impressive performance.

"All year we play 90 minutes and one game we were 2-0 up and we were obviously not in a good position in the second half [against Tottenham] but recently the players played 90 minutes, they were knackered and look at Brighton, they were knackered as well and then a bad performance, it's not acceptable. we know that because we spoke with the lads about it. We have seen character today, we were determined, passionate and we had to win and played good football.

On Victor Lindelof's performances: "He's playing fantastic. Really good games in and out of possession. Today totally defending in control but then building up as well, good positioning, good decisions so we are happy with that."

"The games and life are much easier if you get the second goal earlier or get the second goal. We already have seen we have many players, including Lindelof, who are determined to win the game in attack and defence and that is what you need if you want to be successful."
