We did say, even at 1-0 you felt there was more to come from both to sides.

Burnley weren't going to have it all their own way and they've got to respond now.

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Burnley

So, as it stands, Burnley are no longer going to be promoted back to the Premier League this evening.

No sooner do Middlesbrough equalise however, Ashley Barnes fires from the edge of the box over the Boro crossbar.

I'm not too sure, I'll be honest.

    I don't think that's a pen, I really don't.

Chuba Akpom makes no mistake from the spot!

What a start to the second half from Middlesbrough! Burnley keeper Ari Muric saved a penalty from Akpom earlier this season but he fails to repeat the feat.

He guesses the right way but Akpom puts enough power on it and it's in - and Boro are level.

  5. PENALTY TO MIDDLESBROUGHpublished at 46 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Burnley

Josh Cullen looks to have brought down Cameron Archer in the Burnley box and the hosts are awarded a penalty!

It looks like it's Cullen's knee that catches him. Can Boro capitalise?!

  6. SECOND HALFpublished at 45 mins

Right then, we're back under way.

Middlesbrough get the second half going. Can they upset the Burnley promotion party and move back into third in the Championship?

    HT: Middlesbrough 0-1 Burnley

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

When Boro have pinched it we haven't done good enough to create those opportunities.

You've got have a go and you've got to really gamble and get at them.

    HT: Middlesbrough 0-1 Burnley

    Glen Little
Former Burnley and Sheff Utd winger on BBC Radio Lancashire

There hasn't been a lot in it. The worry for Burnley is when they've had a couple of bad passes, you've got to be so careful.

But other than that they've defended pretty well when Middlesbrough have got the ball and when they've gone forward they've looked a threat and they've got the goal.

So far going to plan, 45 minutes from celebration.

Ashley Barnes' goal, which came after he tapped in from Josh Brownhill's long-range strike, sends Burnley ahead against Middlesbrough at the break.

The Clarets are 45 minutes away from the Premier League.

    A massive second half awaits.

  10. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Burnley

Three minutes added onto this first half, presumably after the delay in treatment on Anass Zaroury.

Can either side capitalise before the break? Ashley Barnes draws a save from Middlesbrough keeper Zack Steffen after working the ball onto his left foot.

If you're going to come out like that be 100% committed, you've got to go through with it.

    Don't dilly-dally about.

Ashley Barnes is flagged offside as the Burnley striker tries to make a run into the Middlesbrough box.

It comes after Clarets keeper Ari Muric came well out of his box to send the ball upfield.

Replays show Barnes, erm, making his feelings known to the referee with some pretty strong language.

There is an absolutely frantic tempo to this game. I have no idea how these finely tuned athletes keep it up.

That being said, I've had indigestion for the past hour after eating my dinner too fast so, you know, different strokes and all that.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 39 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Burnley

Hayden Hackney goes into the book as he cynically brings down Burnley's Nathan Tella as the visitors break after a decent spell from the hosts.

The game's turned in Middlesbrough's favour in the past few minutes but the Clarets are dealing with the danger so far.

If someone is on that back post it's a little tap-in.

Ari Muric is taking no chances as he sort of scoops the ball away.

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Burnley

    Dear oh dear.

Burnley keeper Ari Muric tries to collect the ball as a Middlesbrough cross from Ryan Giles is sent into the Clarets' box.

He spills the Wolves loanee's delivery but fortunately for Burnley, Boro can't capitalise on his mistake.

Burnley win a free-kick and play it short, with Ian Maatsen looking to pick out Josh Brownhill on the right flank.

But their speed gets the better of them as Maatsen's delivery sails out for a Middlesbrough throw-in.

As we cross the half-hour stage, a reminder for those of you who might just be joining us.

Ashley Barnes' 12th-minute tap-in from Josh Brownhill's long-range drive has sent Burnley ahead at Middlesbrough.

That's Barnes' 50th league goal for the Clarets and, as it stands, will send them back to the Premier League.

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Burnley

Burnley's Anass Zaroury is down and looks in some discomfort following a coming together with Paddy McNair.

Replays show it looks like he caught on his boot by the Middlesbrough defender.

The physios come on to give him some treatment as the game is paused.
