The players are coming out onto the pitch and now the atmosphere at the Allianz Arena is an intimidating one.

The Bayern fans are certainly doing all they can to give their side an edge.

John Stones can play right-back but he's not a right-back, he's a really good centre-back. As long as he does his job and makes the right passes that's what the manager wants, but I don't think we are going to see him being classed as a midfielder going forward.

Man… Nervous as hell even with 3 goal advantage. Bayern will start like a high speed chase shooting all over City defence. May have to call ambulance at end of the game

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel speaking to BT Sport: "Yeah you're right [it's a big task] but still we cannot get overwhelmed by the scale of what we have to achieve. W need to take it step by step. The first step is to win. If we win both halves separately we have a two-goal advantage then it looks a bit more realistic. If we take it step by step and catch moment who knows."

Will Cancelo play a hybrid role? "No, we don't change positions today. We don't have enough time for that and he will play for Alphonso Davies who lacks a bit of form and self-confidence at the moment. It's always a challenge to have one guy who plays against his former team. We hope he has some shots and assists from half-field."

  5. 'A sense of crisis around Bayern'published at 19:51 British Summer Time 19 April 2023

Bayern Munich v Man City (Agg 0-3, 20:00 BST)

    Raphael Honigstein
German football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Tuchel made the point that after wining 10 championships in a row and not winning the 11th it looks like a bad thing.

I think Bayern have a really good manager that at the start of next season they will be in the position to challenge on three fronts.

There's a sense of crisis around the club but it doesn't take a lot in Munich to get that feeling of a crisis.

  6. Consistency the key?published at 19:48 British Summer Time 19 April 2023

Bayern Munich v Man City (Agg 0-3, 20:00 BST)

No tinkering from Pep Guardiola tonight. This is the first time that Manchester City have started three Champions League games in a row with the same 11 players.

Will consistency be key in their bid to win the competition?

He's changed to a back-four. Tried to be a bit more communicative. He is trying a lot to talk to them and get them playing something resembling their best.

Sadly they seem to be going in reverse.

I know from my own experiences that goalkeepers usually get blamed when things go wrong, but I am still surprised that some Manchester City fans see Ederson as being a weak link in their Treble bid.

The 29-year-old Brazilian has been at City since 2017 and has won four Premier League titles from five attempts, but some of his critics would have you believe that he doesn't save enough shots and also claim that even his famous footwork is not as good as it used to be.

At first glance, some of his statistics this season might appear to support those theories about a decline - but I've tried to dig a little deeper in an attempt to show why just looking at numbers alone does not give you the full picture about a player's performances, particularly in his position.

Bayern Munich have won all four of their home games in the Champions League this season and have not conceded a goal at the Allianz Arena in the competition.

Their wins included one 5-0 victory against Viktoia Plzen, with the rest 2-0 wins.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have won five and drawn three of their last nine away games against German opposition, their only defeat coming against Leipzig in the 2021-22 group stage.

Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard certainly believes a comeback will be possible tonight.

"We had a good first half in the first leg against City," he said. "We'll be very disappointed if we don't win.

"We are highly motivated and in fine form. We've seen in the past that a comeback like this is possible."

Romelu Lukaku scored an 82nd-minute penalty as Inter Milan put themselves in a strong position to advance to the semi-finals of the Champions League after a deserved 2-0 win away to Benfica.

Nicolo Barella's downward header gave Inter the lead in the quarter-final first leg in Lisbon.

Benfica struggled to dictate play in front of their own fans as Inter produced a defensive masterclass in Lisbon.

"We cannot think that we are already in the semi-final because we are not," said Inter keeper Andre Onana.

"We still need another great game. I said that we had to come here and play without fear because we could win - we did just that."

Well, I thought Bayern Munich were going to create an intimidating atmosphere but now they seem to be banging out what sounds like Billy Joel's best hits.

I like some of Billy Joel's songs but I don't think of them as particularly intimidating sounding...

Inter have only scored 13 times in nine Champions League matches this season but have kept six clean sheets.

Six of their goals have come from Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku, who each have three.

The winners of this tie meet AC Milan in the semis next month.

Inter Milan and AC Milan met in the Champions League semi-finals in 2003, with AC Milan winning on the away goal rule on their way to being crowned champions of Europe at Old Trafford in 2003.

Benfica need "sharp minds" if they are to overturn Inter Milan's 2-0 first leg lead and advance to the semi-finals, says boss Roger Schmidt.

"An early goal could change the whole tie, just as the one we almost got at the last second of the first leg," Schmidt added.

"We had our chances last week too, but didn't make the most of them.

"We need motivation, sharp minds and to leave all emotions off the pitch. It is time to prove we belong here, otherwise we’ll be out of the Champions League."

Will Inter Milan get the job done and set up a mouth-watering Champions League semi-final against AC Milan?

After AC Milan edged past Napoli on Tuesday, Inter are strong favourites to advance after establishing a 2-0 first leg advantage away to Benfica.

It will be the first time they have reached the last four since 2010 - when they went on to be crowned champions of Europe - if they successfully negotiate another 90 minutes against their Portuguese opponents.

The last time Inter and AC Milan met in the Champions League was in 2005 at the quarter-final stage. AC Milan were leading 2-0 from the first leg when the second leg was abandoned due to crowd trouble, with AC Milan advancing to the semi-finals.

  16. 'City have 95% chance to go through'published at 19:19 British Summer Time 19 April 2023

Simon Gleave, head of sports analysis, Nielsen's Gracenote: "Manchester City's 3-0 first leg win against Bayern Munich means that they are highly unlikely to lose this tie.

"Euro Club index, external number one team City now have a 95% chance of going through to the semi-finals. Bayern are now third on our ranking, having been overtaken by Real Madrid who will be Manchester City's opponents if Guardiola's team move safely into the last four."In the other tie, Internazionale (ranked 11) are in similar charge of their fate with a 92% chance of progressing to the last four after their 2-0 first leg win in Portugal. Benfica (18th) have an 8% chance of stopping an all-Milan semi-final."

Bayern Munich v Man City (Agg 0-3, 20:00 BST)

The Bayern Munich fans are determined to make this as hostile an atmosphere as possible for the visitors, with the Manchester City goalkeepers coming out to a chorus of boos from the home supporters for their warm up.

Given the fact it is a game of football where essentially the difference between the two sides isn't massive, so three goals does feel a stretch.

But many players have gone to the Allianz Arena and crumbled. I hope personally from a Manchester City perspective that doesn't happen but it is Bayern Munich and this is the knockout rounds of the Champions League, it is not zero chance but it is certainly not likely.

Manchester City will do very well to stop Bayern from scoring tonight given they haven't failed to score at home in three years but the key will be limiting how many they do score.

Only four teams have progressed from a Champions League knockout tie when losing the first leg by three goals or more, with the last to do so Liverpool against Barcelona in 2019.
