Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel admits his side face a mammoth task to overcome Manchester City.

"It will be a miracle if we pull it off, but we can't just talk a miracle into existence," he said.

"Playing against Manchester City is a massive challenge, they are in great form recently. It's in our own hands, we need to give it everything.

"We're not alone, we have a good team and we have the fans. We have to go step by step.

"We need the momentum and those little moments to go our way - it won't come off otherwise. We have to get the balance right. We know the size of the task that awaits us and just how difficult it will be."

This could be a special night in more ways than one for Pep Guardiola.

Not only is he returning to his former club but he could become only the third manager to win 100 Champions League games with a victory tonight.

In doing so he would join legendary bosses Carlo Ancelotti and Sir Alex Ferguson in reaching the landmark.

Ancelotti's 100 wins came in 180 games while Ferguson did in 184. Should Guardiola hit the century tonight he will achieve it in just 158 games.

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City will face "11 players, not the history" of Bayern Munich tonight.

    Guardiola says his former side

Bayern, who have won the trophy six times, will be a threat on home soil.

"We don't play against what they achieved, but having something like that is something special," he said.

"We must focus on what we have to do to control the game, punish them, come here to win the game in Munich against one of the most historic teams in the competition."

  7. Coming uppublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 19 April 2023

    Good evening!

This feels, on the face of it, like a night of pretty straightforward Champions League quarter-final action with neither tie particularly close.

Both Manchester City and Inter Milan are firmly in the driving seat in their respective quarter-finals after winning the first legs 3-0 and 2-0 respectively.

An early goal for the opposition could add a bit of spice but an early goal for City or Inter would effectively end the game as a contest. Here's the state of play tonight:

    • Bayern Munich v Man City (0-3 agg)
    • Inter Milan v Benfica (2-0 agg)

  8. One foot in the semi-finals?published at 18:45 British Summer Time 19 April 2023

    Could this be their year?

Manchester City produced one of their best Champions League performances to sweep aside Bayern Munich at Etihad Stadium and put one foot firmly in the semi-finals.

They arrive at the Allianz Arena with a three-goal lead and will rightly feel confident that their bid for a first Champions League trophy will remain very much alive by the end of tonight.

City's progression feels like a formality but this is the knockouts of Europe's elite club competition, and they've been known to throw up unexpected comebacks before...
