As close as Chelsea have come to an opener.

Lauren James picks up the ball in midfield and executes an inch-perfect pass to release Sam Kerr who charges through the pitch.

Lyon goalkeeper Christiane Endler comes right out of her goal and Kerr's shot fires straight at her. She will be so frustrated with that one, big opportunity.

That’s going to be a really good battle between Jess Carter and Delphine Cascarino.

Carter is such a good one v one defender. She really gives Chelsea confidence through that.

Chelsea clear their lines with a nice bit of play but immediately give the ball away in the middle of the park.

Delphine Cascarino sends a cross in and Lindsey Horan almost gets a head to it but not quite.

Lyon will really want to find a goal while they're on top.

Chelsea need to alleviate pressure and they can do that by getting the ball to Guro Reiten.

She is such a wonderful player - 17 assists this year for this Chelsea side.

She is so effective in wide areas. Brilliant to watch.

Chelsea have a corner and Eve Perisset whips it in but it's headed away at the near post by Lindsey Horan.

Chelsea will just want to take the sting out of this one.

Regain some composure and get a foot on the ball. They have had a bit of a nervy start in London.

Magdalena Eriksson almost absolutely gifts Lyon a goal. She plays a very dodgy pass out from the back and Sign Bruun gets onto it but lashes her shot over.

Should've scored. Let off for Chelsea.

This is not the start Chelsea would have wanted at all. Magdalena Eriksson immediately shook her head and Emma Hayes has turned back to her coaching staff on a few occasions puffing her cheeks.

Early warning signs from Lyon.

Delphine Cascarino gets herself in a decent position and fires a shot off. It should be a relatively simple save for Ann Katrin Berger but she spills it and it's a nervy couple of seconds as Chelsea try to clear.

Chelsea trying to get a fast start in the game. Jess Carter finds Guro Reiten down the left but it's blocked by Danielle van de Donk.

Lyon forced to defend in these very early stages.

There's an underlying buzz around Stamford Bridge. It feels like a big game. Fans to our right were stretching across to take photos of Lyon's Ada Hegerberg sat on the bench.

Chelsea's injured quartet of Pernille Harder, Fran Kirby, Millie Bright and Katerina Svitkova are to our left. Find a goalie and that's a decent 5-aside team.

A place in the semi-final up for grabs, let's do this.

Lyon midfielder Damaris Egurrola hopes more games will be played at "big stadiums" in the competition.

They are at Stamford Bridge tonight, having already played Arsenal at the Emirates in the group stages.

"I think it's really important for women's football. Hopefully there will be more games in big stadiums," she added.

We're expecting a record crowd for a Chelsea Women's Champions League match at Stamford Bridge this evening.

The teams are making their way out onto the pitch and we're about to get underway for what could be a special night for Chelsea.

Emma Hayes has told me in conversations the Champions League is the pinnacle, this is the one she wants.

She’s done it domestically, at club level, everything. She is a fantastic manager and she feels like this is the best squad she has to do this and this could potentially be their year.

Having two English teams in the semi-finals would be a massive statement, an amazing prospect to have in front of us.

It’s really reflective of the progress that women's football in England has made and I think further evidence of what happens when you actually invest in the game and give the women's game the respect and the resources that it deserves.

So I think it's really exciting in terms of what could potentially happen going forward but yes, a really, really great marker in the history of the women's game in England.
