  1. Barcelona await the winnerspublished at 19:54 British Summer Time 30 March 2023

In Wednesday's other quarter-final Barcelona thrashed Champions League debutants Roma 5-1, having also won the first leg 1-0.

That means should Chelsea progress this evening we will have a repeat of the 2021 final in the last-four and should Lyon get through it will be a repeat of last year's final, which Lyon won to secure a record-extending eighth Champions League trophy.

But for now it's all about this evening.

Chelsea stuttered in their chase for an unprecedented fourth WSL title when they lost 2-0 to Manchester City on Sunday.

It was a performance uncharacteristic of Chelsea's successes in recent years. Can they bounce back this evening?

Lyon didn't have the greatest game against Chelsea last week but Chelsea did give Lyon chances. With a big crowd you don't know how the players are going to react to that.

Lyon know they need to be clinical, they had a great result at the weekend and there's a good chance they will put their chances away.

Lyon head coach Sonia Bompastor was asked in her media conference yesterday if they need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

They missed several chances against Chelsea in France.

"We always work on lots in our game, not just goalscoring but we know it's very important," said Bompastor.

"We know we have to score at least one goal tomorrow, we know what we have to do.

"We will follow our usual philosophy which is attack-minded anyway. We have been working on a lot of things, including our effiency in front of goal."

The European holders still have star striker Ada Hegerberg on the bench tonight - but how important could she be for them?

"We all know how important she is for us. She is a leader on and off the pitch and is a natural goalscorer," added Bompastor.

"When you have someone like that in your team it brings confidence to the whole team.

"She will be eager to score again so it's certainly nice to have her back in the group."

  5. Lyon giants of European footballpublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 30 March 2023

    Chelsea v Lyon (20:00 BST)

Chelsea will have watched events unfold at Emirates Stadium last night with caution. A 1-0 lead is a slim margin and they know a side like Lyon could overturn that in an instant.

The French side have serious European pedigree, having won eight Champions League titles including six of the last seven.

At the heart of that squad is Norway forward Ada Hegerberg, the Women's Champions League's all time leading goal scorer.

The Ballon d'Or winner was an unused substitute in the first leg following her return from a lengthy injury but she was back in the frame for Lyon on Saturday, scoring in her side's 6-0 rout over Guingamp in the league.

If she is to inspire a comeback this evening it would be off the bench bt Lyon have plenty of other experience and Chelsea will be well aware of their threat.

  6. Wolfsburg set up Arsenal semi-finalpublished at 19:47 British Summer Time 30 March 2023

FT: Wolfsburg 1-1 PSG (Agg: 2-1)

All over in Germany and Wolfsburg progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League, setting up a mouth-watering tie with Arsenal.

Kadidiatou Diani cancelled out Alexandra Popp's 20th minute goal and both sides had opportunities to win the match but Dominique Janssen's goal in the first leg was the difference over the two legs and puts the German side through.

Wolfsburg will be going for a third Champions League title as PSG miss out again on European glory.

Emma Hayes sees her players perform at a high level in training and sometimes you get to matches and you don't know which team is going to turn up.

But there are some players that are so important to how Chelsea play that they are irreplaceable. Fran Kirby, Pernille Harder, Erin Cuthbert and Millie Bright - they are key players to the way Chelsea play.

One thing Chelsea will be pleased about is Erin Cuthbert being fit enough to start.

She looked in a bad way after picking up a knock in the match against Manchester City on Sunday.

Fans will have been worried to see her down for quite some time receiving medical treatment and then hobbling off. But, good news for Chelsea fans, she's fit enough to get the nod tonight.

  9. 'Chelsea should cope without Bright'published at 19:41 British Summer Time 30 March 2023

    Kelly Smith
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Not having Millie Bright is a massive blow. She’s a stalwart back there, always one of the first names down on the team sheet, she is probably the best defender in the WSL. She brings so much experience and composure back there and leadership.

It's a big miss but obviously Magdalena Eriksson coming in has bags of experience, she’s also a leader – the captain of Sweden. So Chelsea should be able to cope but it is potentially a big loss for them.

  10. Bright's absence a losspublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 30 March 2023

Millie Bright's absence is definitely a loss for Chelsea but they can take heart from their second-half performance in France.

The England centre-back is a stalwart in Emma Hayes' side and I heard two men discussing her fitness on the way into the stadium.

She has been out on the pitch before kick-off speaking to supporters and posing for a photo with some of the mascots.

Her face is on banners around Stamford Bridge and if Chelsea get through tonight you would think she will play a key role if she's fit enough to feature in the semi-finals.

    Laura Bassett
Former England international on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm fairly confident with Chelsea I think if they have a good first half, maybe score early, I can see them holding the game out.

There's certain players like Sam Kerr and Lauren James who need to step up and have an outstanding game for Chelsea to progress.

  12. Can Chelsea do it on the big stage?published at 19:35 British Summer Time 30 March 2023

    Chelsea v Lyon (20:00 BST)

There was some chat on BBC Radio 5 Live after Arsenal's win last night that Chelsea often struggle on the big occasions.

They were thrashed in the 2021 Champions League final by Barcelona and lost out on the Continental Cup to London rivals Arsenal having also missed out in the final last year to Manchester City.

Plus, they struggled at the weekend in a crucial Women's Super League game against City, losing 2-0.

That being said, they have also won the last three WSL titles and two FA Cups.

But they can be a little unpredictable on the big stage so, which Chelsea will we see this evening?

  13. Champions League scheduling 'strange'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 30 March 2023

Arsenal were set to play title rivals Manchester United in a crucial clash on 22 April, but that fixture will have to be moved because of the Gunners' progression in Europe.

Arsenal's win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday means they face Paris St-Germain/Wolfsburg on 22 April in Europe's last four.

Matches in the Women's Champions League are usually played on a weekday but the semi-finals are set to take place over a weekend and United boss Marc Skinner said the scheduling is "strange".

"I'm sure there's space for it to be put somewhere else," said Skinner.

"I'm hopeful our fans will still come as they travel ridiculous amounts and are ever-present.

"If we want our league to be an exciting run-in and we want consistency, then I do find it strange. I'm sure Arsenal do as well. They have to do a mid-week game away. It should be looked at."

  14. About last night...published at 19:31 British Summer Time 30 March 2023

Arsenal 2-0 Bayern Munich (Agg: 2-1)

Arsenal overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit last night to reach the semi-final of the Champions league for the first time in a decade.

Frida Maanum and Stina Blackstenius provided the two crucial goals in a scintillating affair at Emirates Stadium and the Gunners will face Wolfsburg or Paris St-Germain in the semi-final in April.

It caps an impressive month for the Gunners, who ended a four-year wait for silverware by beating Chelsea in the League Cup final on 5 March.

After a rocky few weeks with injuries looking like they could cost Arsenal, Jonas Eidevall's side are right back in the hunt to secure three trophies this season.

Over in Germany the other semi-final between Wolfsburg and Paris St-Germain is nearing its conclusion.

The scores are level on the night but Wolfsburg took a 1-0 win in Paris so as it stands they are heading through.

Alexandra Popp opened the scoring for the visitors but Kadidiatou Diani equalised 10 minutes later. Around 10 minutes plus added time on the clock and it could be a fascinating finale.

The winners will face Arsenal in the semi-final. Speaking of Arsenal...

  16. Chelsea must 'seek the opportunity' to reach semi-finalpublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 30 March 2023

    Chelsea v Lyon (20:00 BST)

Emma Hayes says Chelsea must "seek the opportunity" to reach the Women's Champions League semi-finals.

Having reached the final in 2021 but failing to beat Barcelona, Chelsea are yet to win the competition.

"We know what to expect. Lyon have been champions of Europe over a long period of time for a good reason," said Hayes.

"We have to have the right mentality. We have to be brave. You have to appreciate their record speaks for themselves.

"It is important to be aggressive in the right moments, be positive in everything we do and seek to take this opportunity that is there in front of us.

"I know the entire dressing room are looking forward to this. We know the threat, but we have worked hard. We want to be in these situations.

"We want to be able to impose ourselves and our game in our stadium in the way we want to. It is important as a team to demonstrate that in the right moments."

    Gilly Flaherty
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Sports Live

It's going to be a fantastic game, it will be a big push for Chelsea. They won't take anything lightly, though. Chelsea are leading but, if you look at Arsenal coming from behind to beat Bayern Munich, anything can happen in a 90 minute game of football.

Lyon are the holders and know how to win the tournament better than any other team. Hosting it at Stamford Bridge and being able to get more fans in will do the game wonders.

  18. What happened in the first leg?published at 19:22 British Summer Time 30 March 2023

    Chelsea v Lyon (20:00 BST)

Chelsea came away with a crucial victory over holders Lyon in the first leg of their Women's Champions League quarter-final in France.

Guro Reiten's brilliant curling finish put Chelsea 1-0 up in the first half after Scotland's Erin Cuthbert won the ball and skilfully teed her up.

Eight-time champions Lyon controlled most of the first half but were punished for missed opportunities.

Lyon, who have progressed from 12 of their 13 quarter-finals, imposed their dominance early on, creating several chances for striker Eugenie Le Sommer which she could not convert.

Chelsea then demonstrated their ruthlessness in front of goal as Reiten's curling shot - their first on target - nestled in the far corner, before James rattled the post shortly afterwards.

    Chelsea v Lyon (20:00 BST)

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea defender Millie Bright, who went off injured in the first leg, is not fit enough to make the squad.

That means captain Magdalena Eriksson starts at centre-back. Midfielder Sophie Ingle drops to the bench and is replaced by Niamh Charles.

Chelsea XI: Berger, Perisset, Buchanan, Eriksson, Carter, Cuthbert, Leupolz, Reiten, James, Kerr, Charles.

Subs: Musovic, Orman, Ingle, Fleming, Mjelde, Rytting Kaneryd, Abdullina, Cankovic.

There are four changes to the Lyon side from the first leg.

The big news is that striker Ada Hegerberg remains on the bench.

Selma Bacha comes in for Perle Morroni in defence, while former Arsenal midfielder Danielle van de Donk replaces Sara Dabritz.

Amel Majri also replaces Dzsenifer Marozsan. Signe Bruun is on for Eugenie Le Sommer up front.

Lyon XI: Endler, Carpenter, Gilles, Renard, Bacha, Egurolla, Horan, Van de Donk, Majri, Cascarino, Bruun.

Subs: Belhadj, Bosse, Morroni, Dabritz, Le Sommer, Marozsan, Hegerberg, Sombath, Cayman, Benyahia, Becho, Malard.
