    HT: Wales 1-0 Latvia

Group D favourites and World Cup semi-finalists Croatia are 2-0 up away at Turkey in the other match in this group this evening.

Chelsea's Mateo Kovacic has got both goals for the visitors.

As things stand Croatia and Wales will both sit on four points after the opening two games.

Also a quick mention for Scotland, who are leading Spain at home!

That game is in another qualifying group however so does not impact Wales or Latvia.

Kieffer Moore is doing all the right things today, he is getting themselves involved with the centre backs, it's his game to get himself in there, get his body in between and win free kicks.

He has done that really well.

So far so good for Rob Page's men.

Wales started strongly, and should have taken the lead after a few minutes when Harry Wilson was picked out unmarked a few yards from goal but his shot was straight at Pavels Steinbors.

Latvia grew into the game, and had chances of their own - notably for Marcis Oss and Vladislavs Gutkovskis.

But the hosts grabbed momentum back and after a number of efforts from distance the Latvian resistance was broken by Kieffer Moore.

The Bournemouth man rose highest at the back post to nod home Dan James' floated cross.

Wales probably just deserve it on the balance of play, but Latvia have shown they are capable of causing an upset here.

Second half minutes away, grab a cuppa and we will see you back here shortly!

  6. Great save!published at 45+1 mins

    Wales 1-0 Latvia

Instead of crossing the free-kick Wales take it short.

Harry Wilson collects the pass and unleashes a low effort towards the bottom left corner but Latvian goalkeeper Pavels Steinbors gets down excellently to turn it around the post.

The referee looks at his watch, not sure we will have time for the corner.

    Wales 1-0 Latvia

We will have one minute extra added on here in the first half as Kieffer Moore and Kristers Tobers are separated after a coming together.

One last chance for Wales to swing a delivery in before the break.

It was a really well worked goal, Wales deserved that.

  9. Sorokins bookedpublished at 44 mins

    Wales 1-0 Latvia

Latvia pick up their first booking of the match - a little later than the home crowd would have liked.

Vladislavs Sorokins drags down a breaking Harry Wilson and goes into the book.

Dan James' pace frightens the life out of defenders and when he is in this sort of mood he is an outlet for Wales all day long.

Neco Williams bursting down on the outside. If the two of them can do that more it is only going to play in to Wales' hands.

    Wales 1-0 Latvia

Ooof, almost a second from nothing.

A Daniel James freekick keeps on going and almost find the top corner of the net.

Perhaps a cross, but close to 2-0.

GOAL - Wales 1-0 Latviapublished at 41 mins

    Kieffer Moore

    Brilliant header from the striker!

Wales had just started to turn the screw here and the sustained pressure has told.

Dan James started the game in electric fashion, and it is his cross which has picked out Kieffer Moore at the back post.

The Bournemouth striker is a hard man to beat at the best of times but he is given a few yards to launch himself at the ball.

His header goes an inch inside the right post leaving Pavels Steinbors with no chance.

If we keep this one two touch passing the game should speed up which is what Wales need.

Wales are starting to get on top again.

Moments after the penalty appeal the ball drops kindly to Ethan Ampadu on the edge of the area.

    A good effort.

This feels like a game we've seen a lot of times before.

The difference today is that Wales can't rely on a moment of magic from Gareth Bale.

Someone else needs to step up and be that magic man.

    That's a shocking decision.

The Fulham man is initially penalised for a foul, which replays show he made no contact with the Latvian player during.

The caution comes for his protests though, as he gestures angrily at both the linesman and referee.
