    Gent 0-0 West Ham

It's a bit of a mix-up at the back for West Ham as Angelo Ogbonna and Ben Johnson leave it for each other with Gift Orban looking to pounce.

Johnson recovers to put it out for a corner, which finds the head of Gent defender Jordan Torunarigha but his looping header is just over the bar.

The home team have won a couple of corners, with captain Sven Kums taking one from either side.

But not much comes from either one, a volley was charged down before Julien de Sart's low drive from 30 yards out was easily dealt with by Alphonse Areola in the West Ham goal.

  7. Cup treble?published at 17:40 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

Manchester United celebrate with the Carabao CupImage source, Getty Images

The Europa League is not a tournament Manchester United will fancy getting too comfortable in. Their aspirations lie back in the big time of the Champions League.

However, they will not turn their nose up at the prospect of adding a European title, especially if it comprises one third of a cup treble this season. That would be some return after six years without silverware.

They could take a tip or two from their rivals tonight when it comes to winning the Europa League. Sevilla have made this tournament their own this century, winning it six times, including a hat-trick of triumphs from 2013-14 to 2015-16.

This is not quite the Sevilla side of then, though. They sit 13th in La Liga after failing to get any kind of consistent form together - going through three managers probably doesn't help. Indeed, this is their last big shot at European football for next season.

Anyway, we'll have time to focus on this later. For now, the focus is West Ham...

  8. Spanish knockout trilogypublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

Man Utd v Sevilla (20:00 BST)

March was an up and down month for Manchester United's season.

On the downside, they were absolutely blitzed by Liverpool before drawing 0-0 at home to Southampton (albeit with 10 men) to see their title challenge all but evaporate.

But on the plus side, the Carabao Cup winners saw off West Ham and Fulham to keep their hopes of an FA Cup win on course and also beat Real Betis to take them a step closer to Europa League success.

Having previously beaten Barcelona in the knockout round play-offs, later tonight sees Erik ten Hag's lads complete their Spanish trilogy in Europe's second-tier tournament.

  9. Premier League to limit gambling sponsors on shirtspublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

Premier League clubs have collectively agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of their matchday shirts by the end of the 2025-26 season.

However, after the deadline, clubs will still be able to continue featuring gambling brands in areas such as shirt sleeves and LED advertising.

And clubs will be allowed to secure new shirt-front deals before the deadline.

Eight top-flight clubs have gambling companies on the front of their shirts, worth an estimated £60m per year.

The announcement follows a consultation between the league, its clubs and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as part of the government's ongoing review of current gambling legislation.

The decision will see the Premier League become the first sports league in the UK to take such a measure voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising.

  11. Coufal targets 'unbelievable' seasonpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

Gent v West Ham (17:45 BST)

West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal said securing Premier League survival and winning the Europa Conference League would be "an unbelievable season".

David Moyes' side head into tonight's quarter-final first leg against Gent full of confidence after last weekend's 1-0 win over Fulham, which moved the Hammers three points clear of the Premier League's relegation zone.

Coufal said: "We need to stay in the Premier League for sure, and the second main goal for us is to lift the trophy. If we stay in the Premier League and win the Conference League, that would be an unbelievable season."

The Czech Republic international added that there is extra motivation for him to reach this year's final with it being played in Prague.

"It is a huge motivation for me and Tom [Soucek] to bring the West Ham team and all the staff to Prague.

"Show them a beautiful stadium from Slavia Prague and some beautiful places. It’s a huge motivation, we have to reach the final and hopefully we will."

"For me it would be the best trophy I could win, for sure."

  12. More on Gentpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

Gent v West Ham (17:45 BST)

Gent won the Belgian Cup last season to qualify for the Europa League, but they lost 4-0 on aggregate to Omonia Nicosia in the play-off round to drop into the Europa Conference League.

They then finished second in their group, behind Swedish side Djurgardens, before a penalty shootout win over Qarabag of Azerbaijan and then a 5-2 aggregate win over Istanbul Basaksehir took them into the quarter-finals.

Nigeria striker Gift Orban, a January signing from Norwegian side Stabaek, scored a four-minute hat-trick in the second leg of the tie with Basaksehir.

Midfielder Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe played for Norwich for two seasons between 2014 and 2016 with a loan spell at Rotherham United, winger Jens Petter Hauge, formerly of AC Milan, is the older brother of Hibernian defender Runar Hauge, while midfielder Julien de Sart has played for Middlesbrough and Derby.

Striker Laurent Depoitre spent two years at Huddersfield, scoring six Premier League goals, with Gent currently fourth in the Belgian league.

West Ham fans have once again travelled in numbers to support their side abroad. This is the club's sixth European away game this season after visits to Denmark (twice), Belgium (twice), Romania and Cyprus.

The question on the lips of all Hammers fans is: will they be heading to Prague for the final on 7 June?

They love their cycling in Belgium and there are blue skies above the Ghelamco Arena, home of West Ham's quarter-final opponents Gent.

The Hammers might be embroiled in a relegation scrap in the Premier League but they've been flawless in Europe, winning all 10 of their Europa Conference League games.

David Moyes' side are seeking a second win in Belgium this season after defeating Anderlecht 1-0 in Brussels in the group stage on 6 October.

And they could be back in Brussels if they get past Gent and reach the semi-finals.

The winners of this tie meet Anderlecht or AZ Alkmaar in the last four.

Gent v West Ham (17:45 BST)

It's Europa Conference League action tonight for West Ham, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season but face a massive battle to stay up this year.

In between the two legs against Gent, the Hammers entertain leaders Arsenal, with matches still to come against Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.

However, West Ham do have a game in hand on all the other sides in the bottom half and end their campaign against fellow strugglers Leeds and Leicester.

David Moyes said reaching the Europa Conference League final would be a "huge thrill" but expects a tough quarter-final tie against Gent.

The 59-year-old is looking to guide the Hammers to back-to-back European semi-finals, but after losing to Eintracht Frankfurt in last-year's Europa League, Moyes wants to go one further this time around.

He said: "For any manager to get to a European final is a huge thrill. I hope we do get to a point where we can talk about it, because the first bit I have to try and do is get to a semi-final.

"It’s great we are here, to be in Europe at this stage of the season is a big achievement and long may it continue, but every round you play is tough. I’d love to give the supporters another couple of nights like we did last year and truly I’d like to go further if we can.

"For a manager you want to be involved in the big games and hopefully we’ve got a few more to come."

Moyes believes overcoming the Belgian side would give the Hammers some much-needed momentum heading into their vital Premier League run-in.

He added: "It’s good to have momentum if you can and we’ve not had it this season."
