Joe Ralls almost puts Cardiff in real trouble as his clearing header only goes as far as Ibrahim Diarra inside the box, but the Huddersfield forward can not control the ball and the chance goes begging.

A few weeks ago, even a few days ago, this looked like a massive game for both clubs.

That's no longer the case for the hosts and now their Championship status is preserved, a few Bluebirds fans have clearly decided not to bother today and are watching the game on TV.

There is a good following from the away side, it's obviously a massive afternoon for Hudderfield.

    Cardiff 0-0 Huddersfield

Matty Pearson gives Sheyi Ojo the old 'let them know you're there early' sort of tackle in the centre circle.

Cardiff have the free-kick and are growing into the contest.

Lee Nicholls gets his first touch after returning from a shoulder injury.

The Huddersfield keeper suffered a nasty injury on New Year's Day against Luton and required surgery.

The travelling fans have welcomed him back with a big applause.

    Cardiff 0-0 Huddersfield

Cardiff finally have their foot on the ball, and a lovely backheel flick from Kion Etete released Mahlon Romeo down the right near the Huddersfield corner flag.

Romeo looks for Jaden Philogene but the winger has just strayed offside.

Huddersfield are by far the brighter of the two teams right now.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 3 mins

    Cardiff 0-0 Huddersfield

A huge chance for Huddersfield early on here.

It was former Cardiff City Danny Ward who arrived late in the box after a great run down the left from Jaheim Headley.

Jak Alnwick does well to parry the shot away though.

    Positive start for the visitors.

Cardiff should be getting into rhythm quite early on as there's no pressure on them which makes for an exciting fixture for me.

I think Cardiff City will go on and win the game today.

    • Huddersfield Town are looking to complete a league double over Cardiff for the first time since the 1969-70 campaign.

    • After losing three of their first five league games under Neil Warnock this season (W1 D1), Huddersfield Town have lost just one of their last seven (W3 D3).
    • Huddersfield boss Neil Warnock has only won two of his last 15 league meetings with Cardiff City (D7 L6) although he did win his last away game against his former club in October 2021 with Middlesbrough.

While Cardiff played on Thursday evening in Rotherham, it has been almost two weeks since Huddersfield's last game.

The Bluebirds got revenge over Rotherham after the original fixture was abandoned, as Cedric Kipre scored late on to seal a 2-1 win.

While Huddersfield - if you can remember that far back - came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw at Sunderland.

Can Neil Warnock guide the Terriers towards another valuable away point, or even three, this afternoon?

    Kick-off is just minutes away!

  20. Guess who's back? Back again!published at 11:54 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

Cardiff City v Huddersfield Town (12:00 BST)

Neil WarnockImage source, Huw Evans Picture Agency

At the youthful age of 74, Neil Warnock is back at the Cardiff City Stadium but this time in the away dugout.

Warnock was appointed Bluebirds manager in October 2016 and steered them comfortably away from relegation after a dreadful start to the campaign.

In the next season Cardiff went one better, and sealed promotion to the Premier League - Warnock's record eighth promotion.

After leaving the Bluebirds, Warnock enjoyed a short spell as Middlesbrough boss before announcing his retirement in April last year.

But 10 months later he was back, and back at the club he had first taken charge of 30 years previous.

When Warnock arrived Huddersfield found themselves in 23rd place, just one point off the bottom of the table.

They are far from safe still, but the Terriers are in a far better position now than they were when the wily veteran arrived.
