    Everton 0-0 Man City

Dwight McNeil does very, very well to deny Julian Alvarez. The City forward runs onto a long ball and Everton winger McNeil is the last man back for some reason. He has to stop Alvarez and does.

    Everton 0-0 Man City

City work a corner back to Phil Foden on the edge of the box but the England midfielder's shot is blocked. Now Julian Alvarez's cross goes past everyone. Manuel Akanji lets it go but there's nobody else behind him to attack it.

I'm getting more and more hopeful that Everton can give Arsenal fans something to cheers about. Have kept the Viking out of the game so far!!

Good defending by Yerry Mina to stop Erling Haaland turning and running. He's winning that duel so far.

That goal has really settled Brentford into their groove and they are passing the ball around slickly at the moment.

    Everton 0-0 Man City

Ilkay Gundogan surges onto a Phil Foden pass and Yerry Mina and Nathan Patterson just manage to put him off together.

The resulting corner finds its way back to Riyad Mahrez, who shoots over from 25 yards.

    Brentford 1-0 West Ham

James Corden is in the stands watching this one, supporting West Ham.

I had assumed he was a Chelsea fan but I guess he's just an advisor on managerial appointments there or something.

    Everton 0-0 Man City

Ederson punches away James Garner's corner and Erling Haaland heads it away for his first touch.

Sho: Can't remember Haaland touching the ball so far but you just know it's gonna be 1 chance, 1 goal

Erling Haaland hasn't touched the ball once. We are 25 minutes in.

    Brentford 1-0 West Ham

Brentford have lost just once when opening the scoring this season, while West Ham have won just once when conceding the first goal.

    Game over already?

  12. Postpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    Everton 0-0 Man City

Julian Alvarez lifts a corner onto the roof of the net. Strangely, Everton had left Erling Haaland unmarked near the edge of the box.

About 20 minutes in, I think both managers will be pleased with their start. Manchester City have had the majority of possession inside Everton's half and they know they just have to keep patient with their play, keep stretching the opposition, because, with the quality of their players, an opportunity or two will or present themselves.

Everton will be pleased because that opportunity hasn't really looked like happening yet and they have been a threat on the counter-attack at the other end.

So far, so good for the confection-made-by-caramelizing-sugar-or-molasses-(creating-inverted-sugar)-along-with-butter-and-occasionally-flours.

A draw would take them two points above the relegation zone in a game they couldn't really expect much out of.

    Too easy for Brentford.

A sloppy pass in defence is pounced on and Brentford get players forward quickly, one-touch passing their way into the area before Bryan Mbeumo sweeps a low effort into the back of the net from Mathias Jensen's pass.

Great work by Danny Ings. He is down by the edge of the box and facing the corner flag but backheels into space for Manuel Lanzini, but his cross is blocked.

Nathan Patterson's had to be patient to get his opportunity under Sean Dyche but he's done OK so far. That battle with Phil Foden should be a good one.

Yerry Mina is down in the box. What's happened here?

A replay shows Aymeric Laporte claims Mina pinched him and pushed him away. Mina went down very easily.

If we can keep Haaland at bay we could hit them on the counter. Not expecting much today
