  1. Kane the lone Spurs starpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 28 May 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Elland Road

This is not just an important day for Leeds, Tottenham could also salvage a crumb of comfort from their sorry season by finishing seventh and claiming a Europa Conference League place.

Striker Harry Kane will also be looking to add to his impressive - were it not for Erling Haaland - goals tally.

Kane is on 28. That would be enough to have given him the Golden Boot in 19 Premier League seasons. This term it leaves him eight behind Haaland.

Julen Lopetegui has done a fine job as Wolves boss but will the Spaniard still be in charge at the start of next season?

Wolves were four points from safety at the bottom of the table when he took charge in November. They start the final day in 13th, with a fifth straight season in the Premier League secured.

However, Lopetegui's future is believed to be uncertain because of the club's financial situation.

"I am not asking for incredible signings from Real Madrid or Barcelona," he said. "I am thinking of signing good players, young players, maybe Championship players, I don't know."

Blue skies above Emirates Stadium and Mikel Arteta can be forgiven for thinking 'what might have been' had his side not let an eight-point lead slip.

The reality is Arsenal, who are guaranteed second spot, have fallen away since setting the pace at the top but will they finish with a win that will take them to 84 points?

They have not reached that number since winning the Premier League in 2003-04 when they finished on 90.

Man Utd v Fulham (16:30 BST)

Manchester United have the opportunity to make it 27 wins in all competitions for the 2022/23 season at Old Trafford today, with victory against Fulham.

That would match the club record, which was achieved in the 2002/03 season under Sir Alex Ferguson.

While that was a title-winning campaign, and despite Ten Hag's side only being able to confirm third place in the Premier League with three points this afternoon, the Dutchman has certainly made Old Trafford a fortress this term.

  6. Pressure off but one eye on FA Cup finalpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 28 May 2023

Man Utd v Fulham (16:30 BST)

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Manchester United ensured there would be no final day nerves by cementing a return to the Champions League with a 4-1 victory against Chelsea on Thursday.

That means they can relax for the visit of Fulham today, although will no doubt have one eye on the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City and will want to maintain momentum by signing off the Premier League season with a win that will also guarantee third place.

The game also brings the curtain down on a fine season Fulham, who have secured a top-10 finish in the top flight for the first time in over a decade.

It will be an important summer for both sides as they look to push on even more next term, but for now their fans can enjoy a pressure-free fixture in the Bank Holiday weekend sunshine.

  8. Final day farewellspublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 28 May 2023

For more on what is at stake on this final day, have a read here.

    It includes this...

For some clubs, Sunday will mark the last time they see their current manager in the dugout.

At Crystal Palace, Roy Hodgson is set to sign off a hugely successful return to his boyhood club. The 75-year-old was reappointed on 22 March with the Eagles in danger of getting sucked into a relegation battle, but three successive wins in his first three games moved them clear of trouble.

A win at home to Nottingham Forest on the final day would make it six wins out of his 10 games and, while officially it is his last game in charge, the former England boss could yet be tempted to stay on for next season.

Chelsea fans will be glad to see the back of a campaign they have seriously underperformed in and it will also mark the departure of club legend Frank Lampard following the conclusion of his second spell as manager. Ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to take charge of the Blues from this summer.

All three clubs in the relegation zone at the moment have managers whose deals expire at the end of the current season.

It has already been confirmed that Ruben Selles will depart Southampton this summer as the Saints look towards a fresh start for a rebuild, but the futures of Allardyce and Smith will likely hinge on whether either are successful in avoiding the drop.

Wolves fans will be hoping that Sunday's game at Arsenal will not be the final time they see Julen Lopetegui in their dugout, with the Spaniard's future believed to be uncertain because of the club's financial situation.

My little boy - well not my little boy, he's 17 - it's his birthday so hopefully they get a result for him.

I think that because it's in your hands it might be slightly different. I think for the other teams involved, they have to rely on other results but for Everton it's in their hands. It's whether they can handle the pressure because it will be rocking.

The fans will be expecting so the players have to deliver. It's going to be a huge day for the players.

  10. 'We have to do our job'published at 14:43 British Summer Time 28 May 2023

Leicester v West Ham (16:30 BST)

Leicester could have been coming into this Sunday in the strongest position in the relegation battle but for a superb Nick Pope save from Timothy Castagne in Monday's goalless draw at Newcastle.

As it is, they also need to win their final game at home to West Ham to have a chance of staying up.

"We have to win the game and not look at the Everton result until after the game," Leicester boss Dean Smith said.

"We have to do our job and see where it takes us. If we do our part we are looking at other people to help us, but we have to make sure we concentrate on what we do."

Aston Villa v Brighton (16:30 BST)

    Michael Emons

For the first time ever, Brighton’s fans have European football to look forward to as the club will finish sixth in the Premier League, their highest top-flight position in their 122-year history.

That means it will be Europa League group action on Thursdays next autumn for Roberto de Zerbi’s team, while Aston Villa could also have Thursday night football on the cards too in 2023-24.

They go into the last day of this season in seventh and a win at Villa Park would see them hold off Tottenham and Brentford and get themselves into August’s Europa Conference League play-offs.

Villa won the European Cup in 1982, beating Bayern Munich 1-0 in the final in Rotterdam, but their fans have not had many excuses to rack up the air miles in recent years.

Not since 2010 have Villa played in Europe and even then it only lasted two matches with them losing 4-3 on aggregate to Austrian side Rapid Vienna in the Europa League play-offs.

But Unai Emery’s side are 90 minutes away from following Brighton into Europe. Brighton have already had their celebrations, will it be Villa’s turn today?

  14. Sense of foreboding at Elland Roadpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 28 May 2023

    Leeds v Tottenham (16:30 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Elland Road

I was at Brentford for the final day last season when Leeds started the day in the bottom three and escaped at the expense of Burnley.

There was a sense of optimism I feel is lacking at Elland Road.

Most Leeds fans think their team is going down and even the guy on the door of the media entrance didn't give off much in the way of optimism.

It is a far cry from three years ago when Leeds were promoted under Marcelo Bielsa and there was such a feeling of goodwill around Elland Road.

Leicester v West Ham (16:30 BST)

    Shamoon Hafez
BBC Sport at King Power Stadium

Leicester's fate is out of their own hands.

The Foxes claimed a goalless draw at Newcastle on Monday but the result leaves them relying on other results to maintain their top-flight status.

What a fall from grace it would for a side that shocked the world by winning the Premier League title just seven years ago.

The overriding feeling around the King Power today is that their side will beat West Ham today, but aren't expecting any favours from Everton, who face Bournemouth at Goodison Park.

"This is not a day for regrets," chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha writes in the programme notes. "The odds may be against us but we've overcome the odds before.

"The pendulum could swing in any direction at any point today, such is the unique nature of the final day."

  16. Who needs what at the bottom?published at 14:24 British Summer Time 28 May 2023

    Mark Mitchener
    BBC Sport reporter

As you will be aware, it is two from three on Sunday when it comes to relegation from the Premier League.

Let's take the scenarios team by team:

    Everton (playing Bournemouth at home)

    • If they win, they’re SAFE, no matter what happens elsewhere.
    • If they draw, they’re SAFE if Leicester City fail to win AND Leeds United fail to win by at least three goals.
    • But if they draw, they’re DOWN if Leicester win (by any margin) OR Leeds win by at least three goals.
    • If they lose, they’re SAFE if Leicester and Leeds both fail to win.
    • But if they lose, they’re DOWN if either Leicester OR Leeds win.

(Everton permutations exclude the utterly ludicrous fantasy scenario whereby Leeds win by exactly three goals, but are relegated on goals scored thanks to Everton and Bournemouth drawing 17-17 or similar.)

Leicester City (playing West Ham at home)

    • Simply, they’re down UNLESS they win AND Everton don’t win, in which case they’re SAFE.

Leeds United (playing Tottenham at home)

    • They must win to have any hope of staying up – AND both Everton and Leicester have to fail to win.
    • If Everton draw, Leeds must win by at least three goals to stay up (as long as Leicester don’t win)
    • If Everton lose, Leeds can stay up with a win by any margin (again, as long as Leicester don’t win)
  17. Who needs what for the Conference League?published at 14:20 British Summer Time 28 May 2023

Aston Villa will finish seventh and qualify for the Europa Conference League if:

    • they beat Brighton, or
    • they draw with Brighton & Tottenham and Brentford both fail to win, or
    • they lose to Brighton, Tottenham lose & Brentford fail to win.

Tottenham will finish seventh and qualify for the Europa Conference League if:

    • they beat Leeds &Aston Villa fail to win, or…
    • they draw with Leeds, Aston Villa lose & Brentford fail to win.

Brentford will finish seventh and qualify for the Europa Conference League if:

    • they beat Manchester City & both Aston Villa and Tottenham fail to win.

Did you all catch the end of the Bundesliga season yesterday?!

    Oh Dortmund. Poor, poor Dortmund.

In case you missed it and have not yet caught up, Die Schwarzgelben went into their final game knowing that a home win over Mainz would seal the title and end Bayern Munich's 10-year strange hold on the competition.

A draw - secured with a 96th-minute goal - was not enough. Bayern's win at FC Koln saw them nip past their rival on the line and make it 11 titles on the trot.
