    Chelsea 0-0 Man Utd

Well, that's a start to blow away any chance of a sleepy Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea have looked to respond to United's fast start, trying to find Sam Kerr with direct play.

United respond, but Nikita Parris and Ella Toone get in each others' way while seeking a through ball.

It's exactly the start Marc Skinner would have wanted.

An early goal can be so key in games like this. It can really take the energy out of the opposition.

A chaotic start. First the music was still playing at kick-off, then United go and put it in the net within 23 seconds!

United have been so direct already. Chelsea have got the ball now and are trying to settle things down.

    Chelsea 0-0 Man Utd

Toone has been at the centre of everything in a frantic opening few minutes, going down and then limping slightly as play resumed.

She should be fine to carry on.

  5. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 1 min

    Chelsea 0-0 Man Utd

The ball is in the net after 20 seconds! But the offside flag is up...

A deep cross was played in from the right by Ella Toone, it wasn't fully cleared and Leah Galton swept home.

However, Toone moved just too early and the goal is chalked off.

Emma Hayes is so intelligent in these occasions because she has had so much experience. Chelsea have led the way and they do have the advantage today.

You can't pretend you are not at Wembley Stadiunm, you have to play the occasion.

Both these teams are stacked with talent. We should have an amazing game.

The club [Manchester United] has big dreams, ambitions and expectations.

I played in the first ever game for Manchester United five years ago and we knew it was going to be something special.

We had dreams of challenging in the Champions League, FA Cup and WSL and here they are today.

  14. VAR making its debut? What can go wrong...published at 14:20 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

Chelsea v Man Utd (14.30 BST)

VAR and goal line technology will get a first run out in the Women's FA Cup today, with WSL referees' chief Bibi Steinhaus-Webb saying they have prepared for its use in the final for a "sustained period of time".

Video technology is not used in women's domestic competitions in England, so this will be the first ever Man Utd Women's match using VAR.

However VAR was used at Euro 2022 and is in the latter stages of the Women's Champions League, so the elite players in action today will know what to expect.

Chelsea v Man Utd (14.30 BST)

A large part of being serial winners is timing your runs of form at the end of the season. See Manchester City men, for example.

It looks like Chelsea are doing the same, as they have scored 13 goals without reply in their last two matches.

The Blues have hammered Everton 7-0 and Leicester 6-0 in their last two WSL fixtures, to move just a point behind United at the top with a game in hand.

They also have Pernille Harder, who has missed the majority of the campaign due to injury, back and in form.

"We're in the best place we've been in this season," said Hayes.

  17. Guro Reiten: Chelsea's 'baby-faced assassin'published at 14:15 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

Chelsea v Man Utd (14.30 BST)

"One of the most in-form players in the league" - that's the type of praise Chelsea's unassuming winger Guro Reiten might shy away from, but has become increasingly common during a brilliant season.

The 28-year-old tops the charts for WSL assists with 10 and has scored seven league goals, while she has a further eight assists and four goals in other competitions.

"She has been very influential to their season," said former Tottenham and West Ham player Sam Miller on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.

"She's almost like a baby-faced assassin. She's got a killer instinct. She's been one of the most in-form players this season."

Jess Anderson spoke to Reiten this week, and you can read her interview here.

On the subject of Katie Zelem, I voted for her ahead of Kerr for the Football Writers' player of the year - a decision for which I have got considerable pelters online.

I stand by my decision though, she has been the key driving force in United's exceptional domestic season.

And after all, the best thing to do when called out for a questionable choice is to double down, right? Right?

  19. Katie Zelem: Man Utd captain's 'rollercoaster' ride to FA Cup finalpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

Chelsea v Man Utd (14.30 BST)

Katie Zelem grew up watching her beloved Manchester United deliver trophy after trophy - in the men's game. She did not have a women's team to look up to.

Now she has the chance to fulfil her childhood dream when she leads her team out at Wembley for their first Women's FA Cup final.

The 27-year-old midfielder joined the club's academy when she was eight but had to leave when she turned 17 to kickstart her professional career as United had disbanded their senior women's team in 2005.

When United reformed in 2018, Zelem returned and has been key to the club's rise to the top of the WSL.

  20. United capable of win but Chelsea favouritespublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

Marc Skinner opened his programme notes saying: "Throughout our run in the FA Cup, we've shown resilience and consistently found ways to overcome obstacles."

They have ticked off several "firsts" this season and aim to do another today by winning their first major cup trophy.

United come up against a Chelsea side who are serial winners - but one who Emma Hayes says have been written off this season.

I think she is using that to fuel her players more than anything as I don't know anyone who is doubting Chelsea's pedigree.

They are the favourites today. They have been here before and have won the last two FA Cups. United have never beaten them before.

Are United capable of beating them? Absolutely. But Chelsea remain the team to beat until they are consistently beaten, which hasn't happened yet.
