Jennie: What a goal from Wilkinson for New Zealand to lead Norway in the opening game!!

Sulaimon: Norwegian women football has really fallen from grace. The former world cup winners are really struggling against World cup co host New Zealand who are on the verge of a historic first world cup win.

Just under 30 minutes to go and you have to say New Zealand are looking pretty comfortable.

The nerves will likely set in the closer they get to a historic win, so how they manage the closing stages will be crucial.

It's a great feeling when you feel on top of the world. Hannah Wilkinson was trying her luck.

It's pretty shambolic defending from Norway, nobody just putting a solid head or foot through the ball. It doesn't have to be pretty at times, it just has to be effective.

Oh how did Frida Maanum miss that!

She gets the ball inside the box and is just yards out but somehow drags wide.

Maanum is screaming for a corner but it looks like Ali Riley's presence there might was enough to cause her to fire wide.

There were definitely some big cheers from people in the Sydney fan festival when that goal for New Zealand went in. Plenty here want their co-hosts to succeed.

At half-time we were treated to a performance by some of New Zealand’s Maori people on the main stage and they have invited others to join them in a performance of the Haka at full-time.

It’s starting to get busier in the fan park ahead of Australia’s opening match against the Republic of Ireland.

    New Zealand 1-0 Norway

What can Norway offer in response? They were disjointed in the first half and don't look much better so far in this half. If anything, New Zealand look like adding to their lead as Hannah Wilkinson gets in behind again and has a go from a tight angle but the ball deflects behind for a corner.
