That was sensational. The best team in the world would be thrilled with that. One touch finish. That is dream world football from New Zealand.

Norway, as in the first half, caught on the back foot. Nothing less than New Zealand have deserved. It does not get better.

What a way to score the opening goal of the World Cup on home soil.

Those scenes of celebration were brilliant to watch.

    Lift off!!!

And it is a wonderfully-worked move by New Zealand as the goalkeeper plays the ball down the right. It is quickly worked to Jacqui Hand, who races away from her marker and plays a brilliant ball in for Hannah Wilkinson to finish from close range.

Noise erupts around Eden Park as the co-hosts take the lead and are on course for their first ever World Cup win.

A key for Norway is to involve Guro Reiten and Frida Maanum, they have barely seen the ball.

First, they need to go in central, have that central threat and after they can give the ball to Caroline Graham Hansen and she could exploit that 1v1 situation.

    .

This fan zone in downtown Sydney wasn't open when we went down earlier, but there were already supporters (mainly Irish!) milling about.

Two of them said they saw poster girl Katie McCabe walk past while they were having coffee: “We got a selfie with her and she couldn’t have been nicer!”

Makes sense - the Republic of Ireland captain spoke yesterday of how special the fan moments have been in the build up to the tournament. ROI’s focus now will be creating a legacy for them.

With expectant home support, Australia are tipped to go deep in the tournament and their build-up has been strong.

The Republic will have to be on top form if they are to get a positive opening result as they look to embrace a moment the have dreamt of their entire lives.

"We're going into the game with a solid game plan behind us, knowing we trust the players around us and we trust the players coming on," said striker Amber Barrett.

"After that, it is football and anything can happen."

New Zealand are playing like typical hosts, full of energy, buoyed by the crowd and really frustrating the crowd. Don't give the Norway talents time on the ball.

Another roar breaks out as New Zealand win a corner. The Football Ferns have a woeful home record but they have gone toe-to-toe with a Norway team that some have predicted to go deep in this tournament.

By the way, they were out of their seats earlier applauding Rebekah Stott for that wonderfully-times challenge that deny Ada Hegerberg the opening goal of the tournament.

These big moments, home soil, opening game, players have probably dreamt about smashing a shot from 30 yards out and it flying in the top corner for your team to go and win, why not.

That was the best opportunity for either side really and a warning for New Zealand, who have otherwise done really well in frustrating Norway while creating attacking moments themselves.
