How big a moment could that prove to be?

Adam Phillips certainly has a fine strike on him, as 10 goals from midfield this season attest.

He drops into that position on the edge of the area on every Barnsley attacking throw and corner situation.

You can almost sense his eyes light up when anything falls in his vicinity.

Ooof, we've almost witnessed a sensational strike.

Adam Phillips picks up the ball for Barnsley on the edge of the Bolton box, controls it in mid-air, lets it bounce and then strikes on the volley, hitting the crossbar.

So, so close to a Barnsley second. Is the game tipping back into their favour?

It's been all Bolton up until the past few minutes when Barnsley have kept the visitors under pressure.

The hosts win a succession of corners and Bolton just about deal with the danger.

Eoin Toal blocks a Liam Kitching ball into the Bolton box as Barnsley make a rare second-half attack.

There's shouts for handball from the fans behind the goal but it's correctly given as a corner instead.

Wanderers keeper James Trafford punches it away.

The home fans are getting agitated now.

They roar their side to press and harry the Trotters as they look to play out from the back.

It's been all Bolton this half and, if this continues, you feel it's a matter of time until they carve out a big chance.

Bolton have undoubtedly started this half better than they ended the first, but Barnsley are pressing them when it matters.

You can sense a bit of tension in the air at Oakwell, though. It's still very finely poised.

  8. 'Chalk and cheese'published at 21:23 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

    Barnsley 1-0 Bolton (Agg 2-1)

    Phil Brown
Former Bolton assistant manager on BBC Radio Manchester

Barnsley can't get out at the moment. Bolton need to maintain this.

I want the Wanderers' three centre-halves to speed up the play a bit, now that Barnsley are under the cosh.

Wanderers have got them on the hook and they mustn't let them off. With the frustration of the home crowd, you wouldn't think they were 1-0 up.

It's absolutely chalk and cheese from the first half.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 56 mins

    Barnsley 1-0 Bolton (Agg 2-1)

It's been a brighter start for Bolton since the start of the second half.

George Thomason strikes with his left foot after working on to a loose ball inside the Barnsley box but his effort is blocked.

Meanwhile, Devante Cole is booked for a challenge on George Johnston.

That's the first sight of goal in this second half.

Bolton's Aaron Morley has the quality but you could see how tight he is. He just slashed the ball out of play.

Bolton just look to have that extra yard since the break.

They don't need to go too gung-ho just yet, time is still their friend.

    For the moment at least.

Aaron Morley decides to try and drive for goal from about 30 yards out as Bolton chase an equaliser.

But his effort goes high and well wide of the mark.

Randell Williams tries to race away with the ball as Bolton successfully deal with a long Barnsley throw-in to the box.

He's closed down by about four Barnsley players but the visitors keep their spell of possession alive and work it up the other end and win a corner.

But the corner is tame and is cleared away by the hosts with ease.

Bolton are dominating the ball since the restart and are stringing a fair few passes together.

Dion Charles dispossesses the hosts and makes a run into the box and lays the ball on to Conor Bradley who goes down under pressure from Mads Andersen but referee Michael Salisbury isn't interested in Bradley's half-hearted claims for a penalty.

We're back under way at Oakwell.

What do you reckon Bolton boss Ian Evatt has said to his side at the break?

Surely Barnsley boss Michael Duff will be hoping for more of the same, on the other hand.

HT: Barnsley 1-0 Bolton (2-1 agg)

    Ian Woodcock
    BBC Sport at Oakwell

A couple of young Barnsley fans have just been out on the pitch trying to hit the bar or post from the penalty spot (ish) to win some vouchers for the club shop.

Sadly neither managed to hit the woodwork and they both got drenched by the sprinklers whilst out there.

I doubt they'll mind too much if their team ends tonight Wembley-bound.

  19. 'Barnsley are monsters out of possession'published at 21:00 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

HT: Barnsley 1-0 Bolton (Agg 2-1)

    David Preece
Former Barnsley keeper on BBC Radio Sheffield

Before the last game, Michael Duff asked for the performance he got. He's done that again tonight.

Barnsley are showing intensity, trying to get the ball forward and being more proactive when they get the ball back.

When they're out of possession, they're absolute monsters. They force errors time after time. They're the only team in this game.

  20. 'Blessing in disguise for Bolton'published at 20:57 British Summer Time 19 May 2023

HT: Barnsley 1-0 Bolton (Agg 2-1)

    Phil Brown
Former Bolton assistant manager on BBC Radio Manchester

Barnsley have been the better team - there's no doubt about it. But it's only 45 minutes. First-half performances are important but it's not over until the fat lady sings.

It's been a nearly performance from Bolton. It's a blessing in disguise that it's only 1-0, if truth be known.

It's almost been a blame culture performance from them. They've just lost their way a little bit.
