After more than 1,600 EFL regular-season and play-off games, we are done for another season.

Today belongs to Sheffield Wednesday, and their win brings the curtain down on the League One campaign at Wembley Stadium.

The Owls deserve to celebrate long and hard, and Barnsley can hopefully find solace in contributing to a play-off epic despite being a man down for more than 70 minutes of a game that was decided in injury time at the end of extra time.

Wednesday will now go off and prepare for a return to the Championship, while the Tykes ready themselves for another tilt at getting out of League One.

For now, thanks for joining us and catch you in August when the 2023-24 season kicks off.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore, speaking to Sky Sports:

"I'm just really pleased for everyone connected with the club, to win in that manner was tremendous.

"Coming into the game, the expectation was huge, the only way to get over the line was by being together and we had that today.

"There was a lot of interest [after the semi-final], but we just wanted to get back on the pitch and go through the basic dynamics and just settle them down, saying the job isn't done yet. They're a humble group, I'm grateful to work with them.

"For the football club, we don't want to stand still, we want to move forward."

The ticker tape falls and Sheffield Wednesday begin what I venture will be a long night(s) of celebration.

They are back in the Championship in the most dramatic of circumstances.

Darren Moore's side was the oldest in League One this season.

This team were built to go up and, by hook or by crook, that is what they have done.

They will need to make a lot of personnel changes for next season to compete in the second tier but nobody in blue and white is thinking about that now.

Both managers are a credit to the region and to have somebody like Darren Moore at the head of your club - you've got somebody who's striving with an honesty and working hard every day to make sure that the club performs well.

Forty one years out of 42, 96 points gets you out of this division automatically. You could say that they didn't really perform over two out of three games in the play-offs but before that, that's when they deserved to go up automatically.

Congratulations to everyone at Sheffield Wednesday and especially Darren Moore.

Some more of your thoughts on Sheffield Wednesday's return to the Championship...

Riley Taylor: WHAT. A. FINISH! A finish to all finishes at the play-off finals from Wembley! Well done Darren Moore and Sheffield Wednesday.

Sulaimon Adelekan: I am very happy for Darren Moore. A black coach leading the way.

Robert Johnson: Glad for Wednesday. Like Luton, they finished the normal season a full 10 points above their opponents today. Justice done.

Josh Windass scores the winner in a play-off final 15 years after his father, Dean, did so for Hull in the Championship final at Wembley.

Dean has been speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield:

"There's no words, there's no words. Wow. I knew he'd score, this morning when I woke up at 5.30 I was nervous and even with his head as well - I can't believe he's headed it.

    "I'm so proud for him.

"When I scored here I thought my life would change. I've got two boys but this boy - it's unbelievable."

Sheffield Wednesday goalscorer Josh Windass, speaking to Sky Sports:

"It's one of the fan bases in the country. I've played for a couple of big clubs but look at this, it's unbelievable.

"We've been good on the pitch this year. The club's got a lot of work to do to catch up with the other clubs off the pitch, but hopefully we can do that and start being the giant club that we are."

I don't think a single Wednesday fan has moved, nor will they for some time.

To my right, about half a dozen Reds fans sit in stunned silence.

What a way for this EFL season to end.

The biggest cheer during the trophy lift is reserved for manager Darren Moore.

Not only has been overseen promotion, but he did so after being the subject of despicable racist abuse after Sheffield Wednesday lost the first leg of their semi-final tie against Peterborough.

He deserves to drink in every moment of glory the Owls are enjoying right now.

Thomas Watson: Cue the last minute Sheffield Wednesday goal...

Josh Earl: Wow. It looked nailed on for penalties. What an ending. So cruel on Barnsley, who had managed so well with 10 men for such a long time.

    James Hammond: An absolute robbery.

Willem Mevius: What a fantastic goal! And such a fitting end to these super exciting play-offs.

Sheffield Wednesday players are lining up to embrace their manager Darren Moore.

Sure, the Owls have done it hard against 10-man Barnsley today but it is worth remembering that this side overturned a 4-0 play-off semi-final deficit against Peterborough to reach the decider.

Moore was the man to pick them up after that first leg defeat, and he has got this side over the line and back to the second tier in sensational circumstances.

Father like son pulls off some for the most magical moments that any parent can see - their son with a diving header.

His dad will be in tears. I know it's hard on Barnsley at this moment in time but it's about moments in games and what a moment.
