  1. Klopp 'loves the away atmosphere'published at 10:41 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leicester v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on his side's away record this season: "Our away record is still not brilliant. I think we are third or fourth in the home table, and... somewhere, in the away table, so that's still not great.

"But we had that discussion early, years ago, when I first came here, that we created something like a fortress again, but we were not a top six or top four team at the time. And we realised it is not that difficult, the difference is not that big but we have to make sure we are ready for that as well.

"Anfield is a boost and massive help in the moment, that's no secret but if we don't have that, we have four, five thousand people away - and they are completely mad! Completely on their toes for the whole 95 minutes. They are really excited and I love that. I love the away atmosphere.

"We needed to much help from the outside this season and I we didn't use it then. Thats why we are in the position we are."

  2. 'Longstaff is a high-level player, we've missed those qualities'published at 10:33 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leeds v Newcastle (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on Sean Longstaff’s foot injury: "He went to see a specialist. There were a few concerns that there was maybe some sort of structural damage in his foot.

"There wasn't, which was good news, but there is a bit of damage to one of the ligaments. He's being re-scanned today, which we hope will show an improvement.

"It's slightly unclear when he'll be back but it's not a long-term issue at all. It's whether we can get him back before the end of the season. We've missed him a lot.

"I've always said this season he goes under the radar in terms of what he gives to the team tactically, technically and physically. He's a high-level player and he's got a really good football brain, so we've missed those qualities that he has. But, as always, you have to adapt when someone is missing and I believe we have the players to cover."

  3. Changes give a hint of how it could look - Klopppublished at 10:29 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leicester v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on whether the recent run of form has set the tone for next season: "Yes, it's a must. When you have just played a bad season, like we did until a few weeks ago (with some highlights), it makes it even more difficult to understand. It makes me even more angry. We can play like this but most of the time we played like that, so that's really not good.

"So, this period is super important because it gives us all a massive hint on how it could look and how we all know we are in the early stages, we have to improve, to make things more natural and more clear for the boys of what we want exactly.

"That's why it's so important we started it early and not play a season and end up in position 10 or 11. Everyone knows we are going in the right direction and it's really helpful."

  4. Longstaff to have scan, Ritchie out of season run-inpublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leeds v Newcastle (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has been speaking to the media before Saturday's Premier League match away at Leeds United.

Here are the main headlines, with full quotes to follow:

    • Sean Longstaff will have a further scan on his foot injury on Friday but Howe does not anticipate it being a long-term problem, while a knee injury is likely to keep Matt Ritchie out for the remainder of the season.
    • Playing Leeds in the early Saturday kick-off is "a benefit if you win". Howe added: "Early kick-offs are interesting things. We didn't do too well with the last one we had against Aston Villa."
    • Howe said Elland Road "is a brilliant place to play and we need to be ready for what's going to come".
    • New boss Sam Allardyce will give Leeds "clear organisation, a clear structure and a definite philosophy in and out of possession", according to Howe. "Watching [the defeat at Manchester City] back, you could see the impact he's had on the team in a short period of time."
    • Newcastle are "excited" and "not daunted" by the challenge ahead in their final four games as they bid to secure Champions League qualification.

  5. 'I enjoy this period with the players'published at 10:22 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leicester v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on having a longer time to train with his players: "I enjoy this period. Working with the players, improving together, making clear what we want to do and putting that into sessions.

"I enjoy that a lot. This is true. But if I wanted that my whole career, I would have to go somewhere there is definitely no international football and always a full week to train - and that's definitely not what I want as well. So it's all fine.

"I love the rhythm of the three games a week, but from time to time it makes massive sense."

  6. 'It's about calmness & not overreacting' - Howepublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leeds v Newcastle (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is now speaking before his side's trip to Leeds on Saturday.

We will hear more from him soon, but for the moment here is a snippet of what he had to say on the challenge relegation-threatened Leeds will pose, in comparison to recent games against Arsenal and Tottenham.

"It's about calmness and not overreacting [to Sunday's 2-0 defeat at home to Arsenal]," said Howe.

"But it is also about making sure players understand how different this game will be to others we have had recently. It will be more similar to the Everton game [which Newcastle won 4-1], I think."

  7. 'Still a good few years left in Salah'published at 10:15 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leicester v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on whether Mohamed Salah's goalscoring achievements will be overlooked this season: "No. Not from us. Not from the Liverpool supporters. Maybe from you? I don't know.

"A lot of time, they will be an all-time great after they finish their career but he is still in his career. If you see Mo everyday, you will see there are still a good few years in his legs and in his body, and the numbers will still improve, and that's absolutely great.

"We don't overlook it but questions asked that often, you might be guilty to overlook it."

  8. Haaland and Kerr win FWA awardspublished at 10:13 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has been voted the Football Writers' Association's Footballer of the Year, with Chelsea striker Sam Kerr receiving the women's award.

  9. 'Sometimes you have to change big things'published at 10:11 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leicester v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on his side's recent form and the changes made: "We try to give ourselves a chance for a fresh start with a lot of different things, different football things and kind of a new start.

"We had eight or nine days between games and we wanted to use that time to start the new season already, not knowing where it would lead us to but we didn't want to waste more time.

"It was a breath of fresh air. Not just for the players but for all of us and the coaches as well. We want to control the game differently, protect our game differently, in different formations and to be honest, it's really good fun to think about it, work on it and then the results came in.

"Sometimes you have to change big things to turn things, not just little things."

    • Leicester have won their last two Premier League home games against Liverpool, last winning more consecutively against the Reds in the top-flight between 1929 and 1931 (4).
    • Liverpool have won eight of their last 11 Premier League games against Leicester (D1 L2), more than they had in their previous 19 against the Foxes (W7 D5 L7).
    • Leicester have only kept one clean sheet across their last 13 Premier League meetings with Liverpool (1-0 in December 2021), with the Foxes conceding an average of 2.1 goals-per-game in this period (27 goals in total).
    • Liverpool will be looking to do a Premier League double over Leicester for the first time since 2019-20, when the Reds last won the title. They have done the double over the Foxes on two occasions under Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League (2017-18 and 2019-20), which is as many times as they had done it in the competition prior to the German’s arrival (1994-95 and 2001-02).
  11. 'Liverpool is still attractive to a lot of players'published at 10:05 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leicester v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on finding new signings who have the right attitude to join if the club doesn't have Champions League football next season: "When I talk to a player - if I'm allowed to talk to a player - we cannot say in the moment if we have Champions League football. So, if we re already talking, then it is already clear that he already knows about that situation.

"But it's just a general thing. I think if you join a club, you reach something together with the club. It's obvious we have to be part of the Champions League, fight for trophies and these kind of things. If you want to be part of that, you're more than welcome. We cannot guarantee this year Champions League football.

"But all the rest is the same as before: a fantastic club with a really good football team - and a better one hopefully next year. It's really that simple. Still Liverpool. We're really attractive to a lot of players."

  12. Firmino and Keita not ready yetpublished at 09:57 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leicester v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on whether Roberto Firmino or Naby Keita will be available for the trip to Leicester: "No. They are not in team training yet. I saw Bobby in training yesterday and he looks pretty much nearly there, but I don't think he will be in for the weekend. I assume we start team training with him after the Leicester game. And Naby, no."

  13. Battle to survivepublished at 09:56 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

This is how the relegation fight is looking as we head towards the conclusion of the season.

Southampton's defeat by Nottingham Forest on Monday leaves them stranded at the bottom of the table, eight points adrift of safety and on the brink of the drop.

But, with three points separating the four teams above and three games each left to play, there is plenty more drama to come.

Nottingham Forest face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Saints play Fulham at St Mary's Stadium on Saturday.

Everton have the task of trying to take points off league leaders Manchester City at Goodison Park on Sunday.

  14. 'Super difficult and super intense game'published at 09:55 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leicester v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on the differences between Leicester when he arrived in the Premier League to the situation they find themselves in now: "It was the first season I arrived here, Leicester won the league (2016). Special story, very special story. Will stay forever. But yeah, obviously their situation is really different. I don't really want to compare Brendan's team or Dean's team. They are in a relegation battle, that is obvious. I saw the game against Everton. Really good spells in the game and really good footballing team.

"But in the relegation battle, you are not always the best versions of yourselves, so that's why it makes it so difficult. But what we have to expect as a team is one who wants to stay in the league and will fight with all they have. I've told the boys already. This is now the real fight. A home game for Leicester. They need all the points they can get. It will be a super difficult and super intense game."

  15. Race to the titlepublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Will it be Manchester City lifting a third consecutive Premier League trophy? Or can Arsenal become top-flight champions for the first time since the 'Invincibles' season of 2003-04?

Behind the top two, Liverpool's late surge in form has seen them climb to fifth spot, one point behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who have played one game less than Jurgen Klopp's side.

Leicester v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

OK, it's going to be one of those days where we flip between different competitions.

We have covered the Uefa cup competitions, and will return to those later, and the Women's FA Cup, which we will also return to.

But now it is time to focus on the Premier League.

Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp is the first manager up in what will be a busy day of Premier League news conferences.

We will hear from him shortly, then it will be the turn of Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

  17. 'I don't want us to be a flash in the pan'published at 09:39 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Women's FA Cup final: Chelsea v Man Utd (Sun, 14:30 BST live on the BBC)

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport reporter

It is only five years since Manchester United reformed their senior women's team.

They sit top of the Women's Super League table going into Sunday's FA Cup final but manager Marc Skinner spoke about wanting more in the future.

"We’re maybe slightly ahead but nothing we’re not planning for. If it moves ahead then that’s brilliant but I want it to be sustained," he said.

"That is my plan over the summer with our recruitment and how we go, it’s about making it sustainable so we’re not just a flash in the pan. That’s something I won’t accept for us.

"I’m really happy with our progression because you can see it in the performances and the statistics. Being at Manchester United though, we want to win.

"We are putting in the foundations for that. That’s where the pride comes from."

  18. 'We have a team of rebels'published at 09:36 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Women's FA Cup final: Chelsea v Man Utd (Sun, 14:30 BST live on the BBC)

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport reporter

Manchester United have never beaten Chelsea and lost to them on both occasions in the Women's Super League this season.

Emma Hayes' side have won four FA Cups at Wembley and played in six finals.

They are the holders having beaten Manchester City in extra-time last year.

"This will be different," said Manchester United manager Marc Skinner.

"There’s no doubt in my mind that if you want to pick a favourite, then Chelsea should be put on that mantle because of the fact they have been here before and done this before.

"But the reality is we have a team of rebels that want to make sure that won’t be the fact.

"It’s a single game. It’s a single focus. On the day we’ll try to manage as best we can."

  19. 'It became an emotional event'published at 09:32 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Women's FA Cup final: Chelsea v Man Utd (Sun, 14:30 BST live on the BBC)

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport reporter

We spoke to Manchester United manager Marc Skinner this morning as they prepare to play in their first Women's FA Cup final on Sunday.

He was asked about his previous managerial experience in the final with Birmingham City - which they lost - and he said he is determined to make Sunday less about the occasion this time.

"What we got wrong at Birmingham was making it a massive event and more than it should have been," he said.

"Everyone knows it’s a big deal and I’m really looking forward to it. But it was naivety. We put quotes on the wall from players and families so it became an emotional event rather than a clear business-like event.

"You can celebrate afterwards if you win the cup and be as emotional as you want. There will be enough emotions in the game so we need to save it."
