    • Arsenal are looking to complete a Premier League double over Brighton for just the second time (2020-21).
    • Gunners captain Martin Odegaard has been involved in four goals in his four league games against Brighton (two goals, two assists), both scoring and assisting in the December's 4-2 win at Amex Stadium. The midfielder is also on a run of scoring five goals in his past five Premier League appearances.
    • Alexis Mac Allister has 10 Premier League goals this season, the most of any Albion player. The only player to score more for the Seagulls in a season in the competition is Glenn Murray, who got 12 in 2017-18 and 13 in 2018-19.
  2. 'Everything is still to play for'published at 13:42 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Arsenal v Brighton (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on Sunday's Premier League match at home to Brighton: "This is the crucial one. We want to beat them and elevate our hopes because everything is still to play for."

On a "special" win at Newcastle last time out: "The feeling of the last game was a special one. Newcastle are a top side and are building something really good, especially at home, and we managed to go and win.

"It was a special feeling, especially after what happened last year [when a defeat at Newcastle cost Arsenal a place in the Champions League], the meaning was more than with any other game."

  3. Can Cherries keep a clean sheet against Palace?published at 13:41 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Roy HodgsonImage source, BBC Sport

    • None of the Cherries' past 13 league games have ended level (W7 L6) - it's their longest such run since 2013 in League One.
    • After keeping a clean sheet in their first Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace (0-0 in December 2015), Bournemouth have conceded in their last 10 against the Eagles.
  4. Milivojevic out for Palacepublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Crystal Palace v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson on team news for the visit of Bournemouth: "Unfortunately, Luka Milivojevic was injured this week, so he'll be out, but James McArthur we're hoping will be back. Jeffrey Schlupp we'll make a late decision on."

  5. Does David Moyes have Hammers' fans support?published at 13:34 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    West Ham 2-1 AZ Alkmaar

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the London Stadium

Some West Ham fans seem reluctant to give David Moyes any praise at the moment.

Yes, they weren't brilliant last night, yes they have a much bigger budget and yes they have had a poor season compared to the previous two (or one and two-thirds if we are talking about league form).

But West Ham in their entire history have only recorded three successive top 10 finishes twice. They haven't won a trophy since 1980 and have a shot at becoming only the eighth English club to win one of the major three European trophies more than once.

Some fans still want Moyes out.

  6. What do West Ham do about Brentford?published at 13:31 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Brentford v West Ham (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

West Ham boss David Moyes is back in front of the media this afternoon.

Brentford away on Sunday is an awkward game to prepare for given the Hammers are not quite safe but they also hold a narrow advantage in their Europa Conference League semi-final with AZ Alkmaar after last night's first leg at the London Stadium.

I am expecting quite a few changes but whether Moyes will be in a mood to tell us about them shortly is another matter.

  7. Klopp's key linespublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leicester v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Dan is feeling positive. We heard from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp earlier.

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • Roberto Firmino looks "pretty much nearly there" and is expected to return to team training this week, but won't be available on Monday. Naby Keita remains out.
    • On trying to sign players without the guarantee of Champions League football next season, Klopp said: "We are still Liverpool and very attractive for a lot of players. I am not concerned about that."
    • On what is behind Liverpool's turnaround in form: "We tried to give ourselves a chance for a fresh start with a lot of different things. It was a breath of fresh air for all of us."
    • He added that "winning six games in a row is special" and that this late season form must set the tone for the next campaign.
    • When asked whether Mohamed Salah's form is being overlooked because of Erling Haaland's performances for Manchester City, Klopp replied: "Not from us. He will be an all-time great when he finishes his career - but he has a good few years in his legs and his body and the numbers will still improve."
    • On Leicester, who go into the weekend in 18th place and two points below 17th-placed Everton, Klopp said: "What we have to expect is a team who wants to stay in the league and will fight for that with all they have."

Yes, the choice of venue for the Europa Conference League final is an utter joke. It proves Uefa are clueless and give no thought to fans - I'd like to hear what their thought process is behind this one! West Ham v Fiorentina would probably fill out at 100,000 capacity stadium, but there are plenty of 50/60k capacity stadia that could be used, even in so-called non big five nations that they are looking to promote!

    Paul, disgruntled West Ham fan

This talk about West Ham only having tickets for 5,000 fans is a bit previous when they only have a one-goal lead to take to the Netherlands. I hope it doesn't bite them in the backside.

  14. Brown offered to join Allardyce at Leedspublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Harry De Cosemo
    BBC Sport

Former Hull City manager Phil Brown offered to join Sam Allardyce’s coaching staff at Leeds, but was turned down.

Brown, who has also managed at Preston, Swindon, Southend and most recently Barrow, worked alongside Allardyce at Blackpool and Bolton as his assistant.

“He rang me and said he was going in at Leeds. I asked him to take me with him and he said he’d made his mind up; he’s not gone with overly experienced lads, he’s gone for energy on the training ground,” he told BBC Sport.

Allardyce appointed former Oxford boss Karl Robinson, whom he worked alongside at Blackburn, and ex-Leeds striker Robbie Keane to his staff at Elland Road.

He faces his former club Newcastle in his first home game on Saturday.

  15. 'Humble like a grandad' - why 'special' Allardyce can save Leedspublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Leeds manager Sam AllardyceImage source, Getty Images

Speaking of well-travelled managers, there is an excellent piece on Sam Allardyce on the BBC Sport website right now that paints an entirely different picture of the Premier League's firefighter.

Stewart Downing, a former player under Big Sam at West Ham, described him as a "humble, like a grandad".

But Phil Brown, Allardyce's former assistant manager at Bolton Wanderers, provided a caveat to that - he is only loveable 95% of the time.

"At some stage in these next three weeks, the Leeds players will see the whites of his eyes and they will see how he can be really serious," Brown adds.

"If he needs to, he can rip your head off. I would say 95% of the time it'll be light-hearted."

If you have time, have a read of Harry De Cosemo's feature on the newly appointed Leeds boss - you will never see him in the same light again...

  16. Mourinho - a capital managerpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Before moving on from Paris St-Germain and back to the Premier League, we were just having a chat in the office about Jose Mourinho's career and I wondered - has anyone managed in more of Europe's capital cities than the Special One?

    • Lisbon - Benfica
    • London - Chelsea & Tottenham
    • Madrid - Real Madrid
    • Rome - Roma
    • Paris?

As part of a rollercoaster few weeks for Lionel Messi, the Argentina captain and his World Cup-winning team scored a double on Monday by being named Sportsman and Team of the Year at the Laureus World Sports Awards.

Messi scored seven times and won the Golden Ball as his country won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in December.

He is the first athlete to win the team and individual awards in the same year.

  18. A trip to Saudi and why Messi issued apology to team-matespublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

Lionel Messi apologised to his Paris St-Germain team-mates last week after making an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.

The 35-year-old Argentina captain was suspended by the club for two weeks for the trip.

It followed PSG's home defeat by Lorient on 30 April - which was their third loss in six games - when Messi played 90 minutes.

"I am sorry for what I did and I wait to see what the club decides," Messi said in a video posted on Instagram.

"I honestly thought we were going to have the day off after the match as had happened in the previous weeks.

"I had organised this trip to Saudi Arabia having cancelled it previously. This time I couldn't cancel it."

Messi is set to leave PSG when his contract expires in the summer.

Speaking of Paris St-Germain, it has just been confirmed that Lionel Messi will start in their Ligue 1 game against Ac Ajaccio on Saturday after returning to training following a club-imposed suspension.

PSG coach Christophe Galtier told a news conference: "I spoke with him on Tuesday to see what his mindset was and I found him very determined to play... he will start tomorrow."

  20. Could Mourinho be heading for Paris St-Germain?published at 12:23 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Roma 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen

Roma manager Jose MourinhoImage source, Getty Images

Jose Mourinho remains on course for a sixth European final as a manager after seeing his Roma side claim a narrow 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen at the Stadio Olimpico in the Europa League semi-final first leg.

The Portuguese boss was hailed as the 'King of Rome' after guiding the Serie A side to an inaugural Europa Conference League title last term - in the process delivering the club's first trophy in 14 years.

However, even if his bid to deliver back-to-back European titles is successful, just how long will he be in the Italian capital to bask in the adulation?

Mourinho's contract at Roma is due to run until the summer of 2024 but in recent days there has been plenty of talk of him upping sticks this summer for an 11th managerial challenge, at Paris St-Germain.

The 60-year-old jokingly laughed off speculation on Wednesday, telling Sky Sport Italia, "If they called, they didn't find me."

But Roma's hopes of reaching the Champions League appear to rest on Europa League glory, with the Giallorossi currently seventh in Italy's top flight, so could he be tempted if the phone call comes?
