Quiet office with just my boss in today, luckily he's a football fan, we will be sat on the office sofa watching a long way from our work screens!

    Ryan

If we can get a Toone out of the Lionesses it could get Gorry for the Matildas....

So glad I booked the day off! Got my face paint, got my England nail polish, got full kit on and I'm ready to cheer my little heart out. Come on you lionesses!

An Australian family, who are big Tameka Yallop and Clare Hunt fans, arrived four hours before kick-off to Stadium Australia.

They looked the business, coated in yellow and green face paint and draped in flags.

The lady furthest on the right predicted a 5-0 win to Australia! I didn't grab her husband's because he hadn't locked the car and had to run back.

The two England fans below are father Will and daughter Becky from Manchester.

They have been to several Lionesses matches together and have season tickets for Arsenal and Manchester United in the WSL.

Becky, who predicted a 3-1 win to England, says "they still have a lot more to give".

  6. 'Probably biggest team event to be held in Australia'published at 10:23 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia v England (11:00 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Australia fan Edward in Sydney talking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I'm just near the stadium. I was talking to a friend as we were catching the bus in and we kind of agreed It's probably the biggest team sporting event ever at least ever to be held in Australia.

"I think it's of that magnitude now. For instance, the front six pages and the back six pages of the Sydney Morning Herald was just covered and I don't think that's ever happened before, not just for women's football, for football at all.

"So it is like it's a huge thing that's been happening here and it's been really great that we've been able to host and then the games even not involving Australia have been fantastic and really well attended.

"So I don't know who's gonna win tonight, you know, I hope it's Australia, but England have got a lot of experience.

"I think it's about 60/40 match 60% England, 40% in Australia, but we just have to wait and see.

"I mean, what does it compare to, I don't think the Rugby World Cup final given the amount of, you know, rugby's are much less.

"To be honest, I mean, I'm a 58 year old man and so I've seen a bit of the sporting events here in Australia and I think in terms of single sporting events, tonight will be interesting to see what ratings.

"I'm really surprised how people have responded.

"As Australia has progressed further through the tournament, it's just built and built."

  8. 'We're looking to write our own history'published at 10:21 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia v England (11:00 BST)

    BBC One

England defender Jess Carter speaking to BBC One: "We've got a great squad here, all 23 players can be playing tonight and it's something we've had to work for. Everyone has had to earn their spot in the team and I feel like we are gelling quite well together, the team as a collective is gelling very well together I think."

On how the dressing room are feeling: "Everyone is pretty chilled to be fair. Of course there is history in this kind of tournament for England but we're looking to write our own history and looking to write new ones. I think that everyone is just excited for the game. Everyone will go out there and give it their all and hopefully come out with a positive result."

On playing against Chelsea team-mate Sam Kerr: "Obviously she is a top player but I think we're well equipped to deal with her and what Australia throw at us."

On facing a home crowd: "I think it's exciting, I mean I find it exciting anyway. Playing in a stadium where the crowd are going crazy is what you dream of regardless of whether they are for you or against you and I think that will give us an extra bit of motivation to get out there and preform."

Manchester United defender Maya Le Tissier, a standby player for England before the World Cup got started, has been speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about today's semi-final: "Obviously it's a massive game against the host nation. For every footballer you want to be a part of games like these and you just get goosebumps just talking about it.

"I honestly think it will be done in 90 [minutes] and I think everyone wants it to be done in 90 and no one wants the stress of the penalty.

"When Australia played France the other day and there was like 20 penalties, I was thinking, I don't know how they're coping here because this is crazy.

"I was on the bench for the game when they played against Australia [in April] and it was just a friendly. They played very well against us, hopefully they caught us on a bad day.

"They wanted it more and I think their mentality throughout the country and through sport as well, no matter what sport it is, is they want to win and I think it's the same for us too.

"It's going to be a very, very hard game."

  11. 'England defence will have fear of Kerr'published at 10:18 British Summer Time 16 August 2023

    Australia v England (11:00 BST)

    Izzy Christiansen
Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I would say I was 50-50 on whether Australia would go for Sam Kerr from the start or if they would bring her on at some point.

The impact of Sam Kerr, you can speak for hours on how much of a boost she gives the fans, the team, the nation.

There would have been a doubt in Sarina Wiegman's mind in terms of preparation for the game in terms of if Kerr started or not, and I think there will be an element of fear in the England backline now she is starting.

The question is if it goes to extra time, can she deal with that? Is her fitness up to it?

The rivalry between England Australia in sports is so huge. Two of the best sides in women football are meeting each other.

It’s a surprise in some way that Australia is up there. They want to reach their potentia - they have played the best football I’ve seen in recent years.

The Matildas are the only team who have got the better of England under Sarina Wiegman.

We’ve seen some up and down performances from the Lionesses so far, so they will have to put in a tough performance to beat Australia.
