  1. 'Huge few hours'published at 15:06 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    Liverpool 0-0 Aston Villa

    BBC Sport at Anfield

This feels like a huge couple of hours in the season.

Manchester United cannot afford to drop points at Bournemouth today, if they do and Liverpool win here, Jurgen Klopp's side will end the day inside the top four.

What a turnaround that would be to an otherwise disappointing season.

    Fulham 0-0 Crystal Palace

Fulham totem Aleksandar Mitrovic doesn't come out of many tussles second best but he's currently being treated for a bloody nose after coming together with Joachim Andersen. Consider that 1-0 to the Dane.

  3. 'Mbeumo has been incredible for us'published at 15:04 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    FT: Tottenham 1-3 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, speaking to BT Sport: "Must say that our first half was definitely not one of our best but that happens in football and it is 90 minutes to decide a game.

"First half one thing we did well was a lot of good blocks and good saves from David [Raya] - we have a top goalkeeper.

"Second half was top. No doubt, when you see that 1-0 at half-time, it was a fully deserved win with the way we came back.

"We nailed the high pressure a bit more, when to go high, when to go low and we were better on the ball. A few more sequences that we wanted to do. That was what we wanted to do and two great goals from Bryan [Mbeumo]."

On Bryan Mbeumo: "He is an incredible player for us. He works so hard, we know he can run in behind, we know he is good at pressing and he can also get goals and assists. He probably hasn't been rewarded with enough goals. Last year I think he hit the post seven times - crazy! - so I'm glad that two great finishes hit the back of the net."

On European chances: "We will definitely try to go for the European positions. We have a pretty tough opponent in Manchester City but we'll go for it."

  4. 'Massive decisions to make'published at 15:04 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    FT: Tottenham 1-3 Brentford

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Ryan Mason, speaking to BT Sport: "The summer is a week away, we've got a massive game against Leeds but there will be massive decisions to make.

"But we can't look too far ahead. That's after the last game of the season but those conversations will definitely happen."

On Harry Kane's future: "Speculation is speculation but what I do know is that is that in 20, 30, 40 years time this football club is still going to be here."

    Wolves 0-0 Everton

Some Everton fans are celebrating as Dominic Calvert-Lewin ripples the net with a shot from a well-worked free kick. Unfortunately for the away supporters it was into the sidenetting, but the angle they are watching from meant for a second they thought it had gone in.

    Fulham 0-0 Crystal Palace

Willian jinks inside from his station on the Fulham left and is winding up for a drive from 20-odd yards but he's met by a firm and fair challenge. It's been a fine campaign of consolidation for these two London clubs in the end.

    Liverpool 0-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa have set out with their high defensive line, something Jurgen Klopp will have undoubtedly prepared his team to try and expose.

Luis Diaz marginally mistimes his run to meet Ibrahima Konate's ball forward. Villa are going to have to get their lines spot on to avoid being caught out today.

  8. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    Wolves 0-0 Everton

Nervous moment for the Everton fans at Molineux as Nelson Semedo charges away down the flank before playing a dangerous low ball across the face of goal and Pablo Sarabia is not far off turning it home.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Man Utd

Manchester United may have had their struggles on the road this season but they could end today with guaranteed Champions League football next year and that has to be a successful first foray for Erik ten Hag, right? They are in lime green away shirts today and it's a beauty of an afternoon as well.

Jurgen Klopp, suspended from the touchline, is all kitted out with the tools he needs to keep in touch with the bench as he watches on from the stands at Anfield.

You'll Never Walk Alone rings around the stadium, followed by further chants of 'Si Senor' as the final home game of Liverpool's league season gets under way.

A big afternoon ahead in the context of both clubs' European aspirations.

    Ashley Williams
Former Wales captain on Final Score

For me, Harry Kane probably needs to leave Tottenham. What he has achieved in his career, his club are not really matching his ambition I don't believe.

I think he needs to go but I've got a sneaky feeling he'll stay.

  13. 'Martial has the talent, he just needs to show it'published at 14:57 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

Bournemouth v Man Utd (15:00 BST)

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on Radio 5 Live

Every time you see Anthony Martial play for Man Utd you think 'we know that there's a good player in there!', he just needs to show us.

He needs to turn it on and let everyone see how good he is.

From his body language he looks like he is playing within himself, instead of playing with that freedom, like he's bogged down with it all. Maybe in his mind the doubters are having more of a say than his confidence.

He's got the talent, we've all seen it. I think most people want to see the real Anthony Martial when he plays.

  14. 'Everton just need to focus on themselves'published at 14:57 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    Wolves v Everton (15:00 BST)

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on Radio 5 Live

If West Ham decide to rest players and field what is seen as a 'weakened' side then it is up to them .

Of course if you're Everton you would prefer them to play their best side against Leeds and Leicester, but it is in Everton's hands. If they win their games they will be safe, so it is up to them.

They don't need to look at what is happening elsewhere, don't look for favours, if you deal with your own business you have nothing to worry about.

  15. 'Nervous times for Everton'published at 14:56 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    Wolves v Everton (15:00 BST)

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Having seen what Everton did at Brighton, they are reasonably well set up to sit in and play on the counter.

Wolves performance at Old Trafford last week was one that said 'We're safe', they were happy to keep the ball and try things without really threatening. And United had plenty of opportunities on the counter too.

Having said that, Wolves have been quite impressive at home recently so there are also a lot of nerves for Evertonians.

  16. 'We've shown what we're about'published at 14:56 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    FT: Tottenham 1-3 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford defender Ben Mee, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's a fantastic win today. We’ve shown what we’re all about. We’ve pushed the top six teams this season.

"We made some good saves and good blocks. We didn’t quite get that attacking threat going as we can. We spoke about it at half-time, came out and took our chances.

"[Bryan] Mbeumo came on in the second half and had two fantastic finishes. [Mikkel] Damsgaard also did very well when he came on.

"We all defended really well. Our back four and David [Raya] were there when we needed them. We pressed high at times and I thought we defended really well."

On Ivan Toney: "We carry on as normal. We’ve played without him in previous games. He’s a big miss for us but people need to step up, and Bryan stepped up today.

"We adapt. The boys up front are a different type of player to Ivan, but we need to step up."

On the race for Europe: "We just spoke about that. If results go our way [we have a chance]. We’ll see where we’re at."

    FT: Tottenham 1-3 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, speaking to BT Sport: "It's sensational. I can’t say more than this. The fans cheered us a lot. It’s fantastic.

"The first half was a bit sloppy from us. In the second half everybody raised their level. It’s a fantastic win."

On Ivan Toney's absence: "It’s hard because we’ve lost a big personality on the pitch. We have to do it as a team. I’m happy to score today.

"I always push myself as hard as I can. I knew I wanted to push myself [before the season]. I’m very hard on myself."

On Brentford's European chances: "As I always said, we want to aim high. We want to be high in the table. We still have one chance [to qualify for Europe]. We’ll do everything we can."

Manchester United have equalled the club Premier League record for most away defeats in a season. They last lost more than eight times in 1989-90.

They have only earned eight points from nine away matches in 2023 (W2, D2, L5). Time to turn the tide?
