    It's unusual.

Arsenal don't like to change their system but they have done so here; Kiwior at left full back, Partey at right full back.

But just another thought, the team has been changed around with players in unfamiliar positions and your only recognised full back is on the bench. I wonder how Kieran Tierney is feeling right about now?

  3. 'Very proud of the group'published at 17:34 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 0-1 Man Utd

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil on Match of the Day: "We were good, we gave everything in a close game. We were right in it and had a big chance at the end. It is Manchester United and we had players missing.

"We want to treat every game with respect and give a good account of ourselves. David Brooks earned his right to start today, it's not a friendly and we were very competitive. We deserved something from the game.

"For his first game back after such a long time David showed some great touches. Pre-season will be big for him but I'm delighte dto have him back. He will be a good option for us next season.

"I am very proud of the group, it was a big mountain we had to climb. We achieved something that not many people thought we could."

  4. 'Our character and desire should be massive'published at 17:34 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    FT: Wolves 1-1 Everton

    Everton

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Hopefully, come Monday at 9:45pm, it’s a good point. It’s great for our belief. We would have liked to win today, but a point is better than zero. We showed character and never gave up. That character and desire should be massive.

"When I saw it [the amount of stoppage time], I thought it was six [minutes] at first. But we kept our belief and kept pushing. In football, you never know.

"I thought we were a bit sloppy in our possession, I think we can improve on that. [The goal] comes from a loose ball to [Adama] Traore. We need to tidy that up because I felt we were in control. We had some good chances before they went 1-0 up.

"You just have to stand up and be counted as a team, put pride on your own individual performances. I give 100 per cent every time I put on the shirt. If everyone does that, it’ll help the team. We didn’t give in, we grafted and hopefully it’s an important point come next Sunday.

"The fans are with us all the time and we have to repay them, but it’s about us repaying ourselves with good performances. The passion we'll hopefully show next Sunday, the fans will hopefully see that and see what a team we are."

Tragic that we’ve allowed one of our best players to leave on a free! Considering Bobby can play in midfield too shocking he’s hardly featured this season.

    Dan, Unhappy Liverpool fan

Huge point for us in terms of morale, but we’re back to needing other teams to do us a favour. At least Leeds now have to win to move out of the bottom 3 but West Ham looking at a European final, can’t imagine they’ll do us any favours. Our best hope is an Arsenal win at Forest - a last day trip to Palace won’t be easy for them. Not really the result we needed today.

    Barry

There has been a clear directive to referees to add on more extra time than usual, probably to add to the drama. 9 mins at Spurs & Wolves and 10 mins at Liverpool is an absolute joke. There's no way the game should still have been playing when Everton equalised - if I was a Leeds or Leics fan I'd be fuming

Nottm Forest v Arsenal (17:30 BST)

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on Radio 5 Live

I think it is tough because you naturally look at the teams that are doing well at the top of the league - Gary O'Neil is another one that has done a tremendous job. But you have to look at what their remit is, for Bournemouth and Forest staying up is success.

Forest still have some work to do, but I think the job Steve Cooper has done, considering the amount of players they signed last summer, and the amount of pressure he has been under at different parts of the season, he's done a magnificent job.

He always speaks with sense, very level - never carried away or too down. He has very nearly done the job that he aimed to do at the start of the season.

We often overlook the teams that aren't challenging for trophies or European places for these awards, but it doesn't mean that they haven't done a fantastic job."

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has emerged from the tunnel first as always.

He gets the usual standing ovation and responds in kind.

What a huge night this could be for Forest (and Manchester City). At the very worst, their fate will be in their own hands when they go to Crystal Palace on the final day.

For Arsenal? They are trying to delay the inevitable.

  12. 'Opportunity is there for Forest'published at 17:25 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

Nottm Forest v Arsenal (17:30 BST)

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Their home form has been terrific all season long but Arsenal are coming to town. Without wanting to give the title away today, they are wanting to chase City for as long as possible, they will want to win today.

Arsenal will be heading to Forest wanting to win, they will want to keep chasing City to the very end, and won’t want to hand the title away today.

You’ve seen in recent weeks that Arsenal have succumbed to pressure even when they have been ahead by two goals in games, there is an opportunity there for Forest.

  13. 'With everyone aligned you can work wonders'published at 17:24 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    FT: Tottenham 1-3 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "In many ways it is unbelievable what we have achieved so far this season. Hopefully there is a bit more.

"Maybe, maybe we can push it on the last day and go into Europe. But just a top 10 finish secured, maybe eighth or ninth, we don't know but that is unbelievable.

"Good owner, good leaders, fantastic staff and players and we're all aligned and working in the same direction. With that you can work wonders with a small club like ours."

On the comeback: "First half I'm disappointed with our overall performance. We were 1-0 down, conceding chances but there were recovery runs, blocks, great saves from a fantastic keeper to keep us in the game.

"We all know a football match in 90 minutes plus. We had the opportunity to change a few things and the performance second half was maybe the best away half performance of the season.

"We were very good on the ball, very good with the high pressure, aggressive, scored two fantastic goals, got a third when we won it back and then we had to dig in in the last 10 minutes.

"I was a little bit angry with my players because we lacked personality in the first half. There was not one hard 50-50 tackle, not enough determination. Second half was completely different."

On losing Ivan Toney: "Ivan is a top player, he's been our talisman for the last three seasons. With the goals he has scored, how can you replace him? It's impossible. But hopefully we can create something which is as good or close to being. The way the front three played today is promising."

On European chances: "We have a shot. We know a few results have to go our way but we'll go for the opportunity."

On summer business: "We want to keep the group together, we want to build. The only one for sale is David Raya - the rest are not for sale."

  14. 'Arsenal suffered with change in mentality'published at 17:23 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

Nottm Forest v Arsenal (17:30 BST)

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Arsenal did suffer when it went from we ‘could’ win the title to we ‘should’ win the title.

When it is suddenly in your grasp the mentality of things change. Up until that point you have a certain freedom, you’re just enjoying your football. Things are falling into place and everything is carefree.

Suddenly, once you have something to lose, as seemed to be the case, getting over the line is very, very difficult.

That is why Man City are champions, they are just used to it. They just have that know how, they keep on managing to get over the line as good champions do.

  15. Steve Cooper wants one last effort from Forest fanspublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

I have been here a number of times this season and never failed to be impressed by the Forest support.

They remained supportive of Steve Cooper every time his job has come under threat and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis opted against pulling the trigger.

Cooper wants one last effort from the stands today.

"Our supporters have been at the centre of everything positive we have experienced this season," Cooper says in his programme notes.

"We have stuck together through the ups and downs. Now we need to get over the line together."

  16. 'Liverpool far below standards this year'published at 17:22 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    FT: Liverpool 1-1 Aston Villa

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on Radio 5 Live

Liverpool have had a really good run at it, given that the standards they set they have fallen way below those this year.

Words like re-build and signings will be thrown around but the reality is they just came up short today [and in the season].

The rest of the teams in this good run have been down the bottom; Leeds, Leicester, Forest. They just came up against a team today in Villa that are in good form.

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks, who made his first start in 598 days: "I am immensely proud of the boys to get us safe this season.

"It was nice to start, I got cramp with the pure excitement of it all! I thoroughly enjoyed it, playing the top four is always difficult. I grew into it and it's a stepping stone for me.

"People hear my story but they don't know how difficult it was for me to even train with the boys. To get back after such a break is really difficult. I have been training for months and months on my own but there's nothing like being on the pitch."

More from Erik ten Hag: "Bournemouth were already safe and a good opponent but we started well and created a lot of chances, I am really happy with the performance.

"It was a fantastic goal from Casemiro, a brilliant finish. I was nervous at 1-0 because you can easily make a mistake and concede a goal. We had to win the game.

"We are nearly there - in the top four - but we are not there. We need a win."

  19. 'All you can do sometimes is fight and hope'published at 17:21 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    FT: Wolves 1-1 Everton

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on Radio 5 Live

There are some teams that go into these moments at the end of the season in reasonable form, they nick a few wins here and there - that's what Bournemouth managed to do to get themselves out of it.

I think for Everton it has been a scrap and a fight all year. It has come down to 'do they want it enough' and can they pull a rabbit out of the hat? That is what Mina's goal was there.

They didn't create a clear chance all game, Sean Dyche was trying all different types of players and set ups, and it was just a long, hopeful ball that was prodded into the net.

It came from nothing. All you can do sometimes as a player is dig and fight, and hope something drops your way.

  20. 'We should put Casemiro up front!'published at 17:20 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 0-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea: "We knew before we came here that it means a lot to win today. We performed very well and scored a great goal. We suffered at the end but away from home it's a massive three points.

"For sure the first 25 minutes was key, it was a perfect start and then we could be calm and play our football. It's a big win.

"Maybe we have to put Casemiro as a striker. What a finish! The golden glove is not just about me - we have been solid this season."
