I’ve missed this Tottenham. I love how now it’s not everyone living behind Kane’s shadow. We miss Kane of course, but I think the players will be more positive this season, not comparing themselves with Harry. This is our season, thank you Ange.

I think that was on of the most disjointed united halves of football I've seen for a while... no heart no system no ideas

  2. 'Newcastle have 'a good environment'published at 19:35 British Summer Time 19 August 2023

Man City v Newcastle (Sat, 20:00 BST)

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on BBC Scotland

Newcastle have to have options and competition; Eddie Howe has two brilliant strikers to pick from [Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson]. He's got a squad of players who are fighting to get in the team.

In training the levels are higher because everyone wants to play. It just means it is a good environment.

Everybody sees Isak is top class but Callum Wilson will still back himself.

  3. Good luck getting homepublished at 19:33 British Summer Time 19 August 2023

Man City v Newcastle (20:00 BST)

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

Manchester City only arrived back from Athens at 4am on Thursday after winning the Uefa Super Cup in midweek, and it is fair to say Pep Guardiola is not happy, external with the Premier League for their scheduling of this game.

It's hardly ideal for Newcastle fans either - the last train back to Tyneside leaves Manchester Victoria at 9.32pm... to make that, they would have to leave the ground at half-time.

The Toon Army do have a couple of other options if they want to take public transport home, but they are hardly, erm, enticing.... they could get a National Express coach at 11pm, which goes via Glasgow and gets them to Newcastle at 5.25am, or a Megabus that leaves at 10.10pm and gets them in at 3am.

Still, they can always watch Match of the Day on iPlayer when they get home. So not all bad news.

Tottenham have deserved it, you can't say they haven't. They have been excellent, a big pat on the back for them.

Skill, entertainment, desire, all very high level.

Manchester United, I don't what is happening with them at the minute. They need to find the right balance, get a proper number nine and get Rashford back on that left hand side.

Ten Hag has tried the same team twice now and it hasn't worked, plenty of thinking to do and questions to ask.

A great win and performance by this new-look Tottenham.

Lots for Manchester United to think about.

What a manager Spurs have. Big Ange will win that league.

    Anon

I feel it's the start of a new era for Spurs with Ange in charge and that losing Kane could be a blessing in disguise for a new style and system!

    Marc

First home win over Utd since 2018 , come on Ange!!!

    Nick

Spurs now a team, not a one-man show. Sounds odd, but could Harry leaving be the positive turning point the club needed?

Another great save by Guglielmo Vicario as the Tottenham goalkeeper pushes Raphael Varane's header onto the bar. Varane is offside, but again Vicario had to play to the whistle.

United fans will blame the manager’s tactics. But these players don’t look especially bothered about putting a shift in. Hard to know which of them would get in to one of the top teams first XIs

    Anon

As a Utd fan, I'm not overreacting, I'm stating fact - As it stands, we will be lucky to finish top 4. We have no midfield at all, considering the money that has been spent it's very very poor. The honeymoon is most definitely over for Casemiro. This should be a massive wake up call! I'd play the academy players next week, they couldn't do any worse!

How can utd be so chaotic? I don’t understand. It’s awful.

It won't be long before an entire generation of Utd fans know nothing other than Utd being utterly average and nowhere near a league title.

Technically United are doing better than last season at this stage.

    Ben

This is dire from Man United, but worth remembering that last season they started with back to back humiliating defeats, so technically this is a massive success! Joking aside, this is rather worrying from United.
