Given where we've been the last decade & last seasons adventure, I'm not fearing the worst..yet. We got through the Steve Bruce era, things will turn around. Or end up championship champions 2024

Eddie Howe will be the first management casualty

Brighton 1-0 Newcastle
It was always going to be a tough early run for Newcastle - the trio of Man City, Liverpool and Brighton. They'll have probably expected to take some points somewhere, though. They still might.

Simon: If De Gea wasn't good enough for Man United because he was bad with his feet, despite being a good shot stopper. Then Nick Pope isn't good enough for Newcastle if they have league title and Champions League ambitions.
4 games, 3 points. At this point under Steve Bruce NUFC fans would be calling for his sacking. Amazing what a bit of money can do!

Brighton lead, but this feels like it has more goals in it.
HT: Brighton 1-0 Newcastle
One thing is for certain, Newcastle are going to have to work extremely hard to get back into this.
Brighton are unbeaten in their last 24 English Premier League matches when leading at half-time (W20, D4) dating back to 9th May 2021 against Wolverhampton Wanderers (L1-2).

A few words from Brighton boss Robert de Zerbi in the tunnel to Sky Sports: "We are playing well, but it is a very long and tough game."
On what will he will tell his players at half-time: "To the keep the ball."

Chelsea
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino manager speaking to BBC Sport: "We are disappointed because we did everything to try and get a different result but football is about not making mistakes and we made one mistake and paid for that.
"We created many chances but we did not score. This Premier League is really competitive if you don't score it is difficult to win.
"They didn't create many chances. We conceded because of our mistake. Disappointed because it was a game that should be a win but we need to be more clinical in front of the goal. We didn't score and that is why we didn't win.
"Congratulations to them but we were disappointed because we could not break down their low block."

Villa game aside, Newcastle have been awful this season. Look clueless. Offered nothing vs City, were gifted a goal and red vs Liverpool and couldn't see it through, completely outplayed here. Howe needs to sort this out ASAP. We will be adrift from rivals before we get any momentum.

Whats the odds on Chelsea going for De Zerbi at some point this season?

FT: Burnley 2-5 Tottenham
Burnley
Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, speaking to Sky Sports, said: "The start was really positive, but conceding that goal before half-time was really poor timing. In 25 minutes of the second half we were completely gone and they exploited every opportunity.
"As much as we created chances, we lacked solidity, that was clear today. Look at the points total of every team that went up, it's what we knew and what we signed up for but that's the exciting thing.
"We have a team that can get better and need to do so as fast as we can. We have to get better quickly, and I have no doubt the squad will get better.
"By the time we got going again in the game it was too late. To be good enough for the Premier League, just take a look at the teams that went down last year and the international players they had - being good enough is a very high threshold. Right now, it's not a surprise to anyone, we just need to stay calm and get results eventually.
"In every game we have been dangerous and created chances so it's the other side we have to solve. Having a goal threat is a good start but for the rest there's a lot of work to do."
FT: Man City 5-1 Fulham
Fulham
Fulham manager Marco Silva speaking to Match of the Day: "Of course the moment for the second City goal made a huge impact in the game, but in terms of the rest, a very goo first half from us. The way the players stuck to the plan, the way we played most of the time was good.
"When we won the ball, with better decisions we could even have created some more problems for them, because we did in some moments. Unfortunately it was not enough to go in at half time with a good result, which was not our fault.
"Second half I didn't want a huge, huge, huge mistake from the officials to make an impact on ourselves. I asked my players to react, we cannot control these situations.
"It has happened too often in our games and we end up being punished ourselves. We have been really unlucky since the start of the season in these situations, every week the same story. A bad decision from the linesman and then someone in the office to not disallow this goal is incredible.
"Our second half was not at the level it should be. The penalty for the fourth goal was not a penalty, Kenny [Tete] did not touch the player. It is difficult to understand these decisions."
FT: Burnley 2-5 Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We got tested after falling a goal behind. We knew Burnley would come at us and press us. I like the way we handled that. We stayed calm, worked really hard as a unit. We went up a gear in the first half and really took our chances.
"We grew into the game and when you go a goal down there’s a couple of different ways it can go. It’s our third away game in the league out of four and I really like how the guys are tackling this task.
"We knew they’d be aggressive. You still need to play through the press and release guys in behind.
"Sonny was outstanding. He’s been an outstanding leader, with the way he presents himself every day in training. He led our press today – then he has the quality to take his chances. I'm really pleased for him.
"Madders was good. He’s obviously a creative force for us. He’s a quality player and a quality person."

The start was good, both teams came out and pressed each other. That is what both sides have done.
Brighton deserve to be one nil up, but it is a tremendous game of football.

A thoroughly-entertaining half, as we all hoped it would be.
Evan Ferguson's goal, coming after a Nick Pope error, is the difference.
Brighton 1-0 Newcastle
It's not clicking for Newcastle now. Brighton are managing them really well, starving them of much of the ball and hassling them everywhere when they do have it.

Could someone have a quiet word with Mr De Zerbi and see if he'd like the England job next year?

Technical question. Do opposition players know they’re allowed to at least try and tackle Mitoma?

I think they have mixed it up a bit today Brighton.
They have hit the occasional long ball to catch Newcastle out, but sometimes they [Newcastle United] are pressing and are creating traps.
