No Palace fan expected us to do anything less than throw this game tonight, but the board’s unwillingness to bring in any players (asides from £20mil on a GK who lasted 15mins) and Roy’s disregard for even giving the cup a go are now causing embarrassment beyond the frustration.

    Ipswich Town 3-2 Wolves

What a job Kieran McKenna is doing at Ipswich.

A coach at Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, McKenna took charge at Ipswich in December 2021, took them up from League One last season, they are second in the Championship in this campaign and only minutes away from dumping Premier League Wolves out of the competition.

  6. Donny van de Beek is onpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Man Utd 3-0 Crystal Palace

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Hardly anyone expected Donny van de Beek to still be a Manchester United player when the transfer window closed.

Erik ten Hag didn't even name his fellow Dutchman in his Champions League squad.

But he is still here - and gets his reward for training properly with a late substitute appearance.

It is the first time he has played since suffering a nasty knee injury against Bournemouth in January.

    Exeter 1-0 Luton

Quite a few minutes for Demetri Mitchell. Five minutes after putting Exeter in front, he's been sent off!

It's a second yellow for the wing-back as he takes down Issa Kabore.

Can Exeter cling on with 10 men?

What does Wilson Odobert have in common with Burnley's other three goalscorers?

None of them had netted for the club before.

This was 18-year-old Odobert's first start in English football, having moved from Troyes in the summer.

A hat-trick of assists from Anass Zaroury too.

    Salford 0-4 Burnley

    Michael Brown

    Exeter City 1-0 Luton Town

    Brent Pilnick
BBC Sport at St James Park

St James Park has gone beserk!

Exeter looked more like they would be losing this as Luton put the pressure on, but Demetri Mitchell's far-post finish could well cause an upset here.

Exeter have not reached the fourth round of the Carabao Cup since 1989 - that could be about to change now.

The Clarets have taken their foot off the accelerator but they've still got too much for poor Salford.

A cross from Anass Zaroury falls at the feet of Wilson Odobert, who cuts back on to his right foot and lashes high into the net.

    Ruthless.

Upset incoming?! What a moment for Exeter as they take the lead late on against Premier League Luton!

Yanic Wildschut puts a ball in from the right, it should be comfortably dealt with by Issa Kabore at the back post but he dallies and Demetri Mitchell nips in.

He lashes the ball high past Tim Krul and the League One side lead!

    Salford 0-3 Burnley

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Vincent Kompany will want to win and get performances. He has made the changes for the game today, but he would have been criticised if he did not get to the later rounds.

Kompany will want to go all the way in the Carabao Cup, but the Premier League is everything to Burnley and to stay up above the bottom three is important.

  16. goal

GOAL - Port Vale 2-1 Suttonpublished at 21:27 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Funso Ojo

    Instant impact!

He's only just come on but Funso Ojo could well have settled this tie!

The ball is pulled back to him 20 yards from goal. He takes one touch to shift it out of his feet and then a second to lash in to the far corner.

A goal deserving of winning a cup tie.

    OK. It's relative.

But Jonny Evans is an old stager in this Manchester United team at the age of 35.

    Dan Gore is 19.

They have come on at the same time to replace Raphael Varane and Sofyan Amrabat, who has been excellent.
